Rating: Summary: I liked the book. Review: I thought this book was disturbing and wonderful all at the same time. My heart ached for the parents and brother and sister left to find their way. It is definitely an original.
Rating: Summary: Great Read, Despite some Character Flaws Review: Like most others who have read Lovely Bones, I found it difficult to stop reading until I reached it's end. I agree with the Psychologist's review here that Susie's character is hard to believe at times as her rather insightful, mature observations clash with her tender age. However, Susie is observing the events on Earth from Heaven and is given the luxury of 20/20 "present" sight. Since she is removed from the living world, she is able to mull over and analyze those everyday actions whose consequences sometimes keep us awake at night. Despite the character flaws in Lovely Bones, I would highly recommend it as an elevating read (especially in the wake of last year's events) for those who ponder the afterlife and have the courage to imagine (and hope for)a heaven that Susie resides in.
Rating: Summary: Could have been better Review: There was a lot of rambling and jumping from one story line to the next. The author never stayed on subject and I felt like the story was incomplete. It took me long time to read it and I felt myself skipping over pages. It was very cliche too. Plot of book was creative but not unique.
Rating: Summary: A Compelling Story Review: This is a book that I couldn't put down and stayed with me for days. Told from the point of view of a young girl who was murdered and looking down to earth from "her heaven", it is poignant, funny and heartbreaking all at once.
Rating: Summary: Intense Review: This book is different from any I have ever read. It is very intense. and I find myself constantly thinking about what will happen next. It is hard to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Not what I expected... Review: At the start of Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones" I felt warm, eveloped within Susie Salmon's world by her words and her graciousness. I expected anger from her, but got strength instead. And I had hoped it would continue that way throughout Ms. Sebold's first work of fiction, but it did not. There is a point at which the minutes and days which consumed her at the beginning seem to fly by, for us and for Susie, changing the pacing of the story. And by the time a certain even very near the end of the book occurs I am no longer invested in Susie, or any of the other characters. Ms. Sebold's touching, and deeply soulful story, through the first half of the book, one of the best books I've read in years. But she lost me as the time flew by and the increasingly far-fetched incidents occur. While I feel this way, I would whole-heartedly reccommend this book to anyone who loves to read, Ms. Sebold's writing style is one I thoroughly enjoyed and I look forward to reading her next endeavor. I just hope her next keeps it's pace, and keeps me in love with the characters she has established from the get-go!
Rating: Summary: Very Dissapointed Review: I thought this book took a very serious subject and made light of it. I found it very depressing and could not believe the comments on the cover after I finished reading the entire book. There was nothing funny about it and did not find it well written. Was very shocked at the reviews and awards.
Rating: Summary: Touching and captivating Review: Very different book where childhood intermingles with murder. Narrated by a 14 year old victim - this story captivates you with the descriptive "through the eyes of a child" experiences. Delivers powerful feeling and captivates the reader through our curiosity of what we may experience after our lives on earth end.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: There is not very much that's lovely about this novel - certainly not the writing, the plot, nor the characters.
Rating: Summary: 5 stars in my opinon Review: I started reading this book on the way to Louisiana to go gambling, and I could not put it down, even when we were on the way to the casino. It was a great book. I loved it and I suggest everyone read it, give it a chance. If you have recently lost someone close to you, it truly makes you wonder about the afterlife. Definitly worth the read.
