Summary: A book I won't forget
Review: I wanted to cry everytime I read this book! It's a sad, haunting, and touching story that I found myself thinking of it often. I was really drawn into Susie and her life/afterlife and how she watched over the effects of her disappearance/murder. Her view of heaven reminded me of the book "What Dreams May Come". There are so many aspects of "The Lovely Bones" that I could go deeper into and discuss, but you should read it for yourself. Yes, some people found it depressing and I do admit, it was sad. But I didn't get depressed or upset by this story. I found a bit of hope that maybe it is possible that people who have died watch over us and still take interest in our lives. There can be the extreme of a "haunting", or perhaps curiosity or longing for the life left behind. This story is in between those possibilities. I thought the family and friends storylines show how something so tragic can stay with you and change you forever. If you want to read a good book, this is it.

Summary: Genius
Review: Wonderful! This book and a book called Dreams: Gateway to the True Self are magnificant! Look for both on Amazon.com.

Summary: Lovely Bones
Review: Alice Sebold turns a morose and horrible subject into something spiritual and full of grace. As a mother of two girls (13yrs and 10yrs), I picked this book up and put it back down too many times to count. How could I read about a rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl? But I did and I'm so glad I did. Alice Sebold made me believe that my grandmother and grandfathers were looking over my shoulder as I read the book. She made me believe that if I left this world that I would be able to 'communicate,' like Susie the narrator in "Lovely Bones," with the ones I left behind. Her prose is elegant and descriptive without being over the top. The one part that seemed a bit rushed and melodramatic was the end... I've told everyone I know, stop what you're reading and read "Lovely Bones" now.

Summary: Sentimental pap
Review: This book was recommended to me by a friend whose judgment I ordinarily trust. Unlike her promise, I couldn't wait to put it down! I don't mind well-written fantasy - say, Hundred Years of Solitude - but this just isn't close. It is cute, sentimental, a challenge to anyone's ability to suspend disbelief. Don't waste your time.

Summary: A good book, but.......
Review: it didn't blow me away or anything......I just felt it was very unsatisfying when I was done with it, but I would never discourage anyone from reading it....I think Sebold does a great job at developing her characters and showing how everyone copes with their grief in different ways.

Summary: Reads Like Poetry
Review: I loved this book. It reads like poetry in places and like a masterful mystery novel in others. It paints a detailed picture of the afterlife from the point of view of a murdered little girl. From "her" heaven she follows us through the sobering, surprising and suspenseful reality of her families lives after her death. This story is told with such sensitivity, it may move you to tears. On a brighter note, you are sure to meet a new friend during your commute by merely holding this very popular book. It is widely read for good reason. It's great.

Summary: I'd give it 10 stars if I could
Review: In MY Heaven, this is the book I would write. An original, heart-breaking yet also heart healing take on the often painful truths of being human. More than a few times I gasped in recognition of deeply buried feelings. This is a challenging and almost unbearably gorgeous read.

Summary: Lovely Bones was GREAT!!
Review: I absolutely loved this book! I don't think I've ever read a book that taught me so much about grief and death. Alice Sebold does a fantastic job of showing emotions of the characters and leaving the reader in suspense. I could not put the book down when reading about Susie's family starting their quest for her killer. I thought this was a very well written book and would recommend it to anyone. I would also read it over again!

Summary: Powerful beginning falls flat
Review: This book didn't live up to my high expectations. I admire the author greatly for writing it, I have never read a book quite like it, I really did feel mired down in the family's great unhappiness. However the characters didn't really come alive for me. The book is part mystery, part fantasy, part fly on the wall drama of a family falling apart. I felt very compelled to read on for the first third of the book but after that I felt that the story started to unravel somewhat. I would recommend it to people who have read a lot of books and want to read something quite original.

Summary: A Most Dissappointing Book
Review: The Lovely Bones had a Lovely Book Cover and that is about it!
Seldom am I pulled in by so much hype over a book,
but must admit that is why I bought this book.
Also, I thought the concept might be interesting. I thought I would never get through this book, but made myself do so.
I read the book to the end, as painful as it was for me. I felt it was poorly written, and a waste of time. It held no interest for me whatsoever. There are so many great books to read. The Lovely Bones is not one of them.
