Rating: Summary: Somewhat disappointing, but mostly good Review: I read the first Artemis Fowl. It was a good book. It was action packed and fun to read. This is a bit different. In this book the lower elements are under seige and Artemis's father is being held hostage so Holly Short and Artemis Fowl must team up to save the day. I thought this book wasn't as good as first. I much prefer Kingdoms and Elves of the Reaches. It was much more exciting. I'm hoping Artemis Fowl Eternity Code is better.
Rating: Summary: getting better Review: I don't think that the Artemis Fowl duo (soon to be trio) deserves to be classified as Young Adult. The plot is just too simple and predictable. I thought that YA was classified as ages 12-17, but this should be under juvenile (7-11) I found the characters annoying and too straight forward, and the Artemis: is he evil or not?? thing was rather strained.
Rating: Summary: Whoa!! Review: I bought this book at the airport on my way to canada because I thought that i would be bored on the flight. I was anything but.Needless to say, I finished the entire book within four hours, and I was amazed at this guy and his imagination. A week later, I bought the first book as well(and, naturally, went through it within a day). Colfer has done a fantastic job with the adolescent character and his comrades. I love the way he writes, I mean it's not exactly as if you can't put the thing down, but I found that the book was wonderfully lovely and easy to breeze through, you'd never believe that it was so many pages long(288 on my Puffin edition)! He has a spectacular imagination and his sense of humor is just too cute. I would say that this is a really feel good book series(if Colfer intends it to be a series), and it's going to have people of all ages hooked for generations to come. Also, I can read centaurian! Heehee. I haven't gotten round to translating Gnommish yet, but if anyone on Amazon.com is interested, this is the message in The Arctic Incident. Enjoy! (Beginning on Chapter One) Congratulations, human. If you have cracked this code then you are more intelligent than most of your species. This is a message from the Fairy People. We are seeking out our allies among the Mud Men. Though most humans are dullwitted creatures, there are exceptions. You, for example. The reason for your intelligence is that you have Fairy ancestors. Do you feel different from those around you? Are your ears a bit pointier than most is your tongue long enough to touch your nose? Do you dream if flying? Have you ever thought that you do not belong among the Mud Men? That is because you have fairy blood in your veins. So, young Mud Fairy, I have a mission for you. As one of the People, it is your duty to protect the Earth from those who would destroy it. You must become one of a new race of Mud Men who love this planet as much as the Fairy Folk. There is one simple rule. Use only what you need, and use it wisely. Do this and the Earth will survive. Go now and begin your quest. I shall repeat this message for those humans whose fairy intelligence is buried a little deeper than yours. Congratulations, human. The end.
Rating: Summary: Really Good!!!!!!! Review: Why is everyone comparing this book to the Harry Potter books?! In My opinion, they are comparing two very different things! I like the Harry Potter books, but not all fantasy HAS to be compared to it! It seems like now that J.K. Rowling published her books, every single book has to be compared to them. For example, I keep seeing things like "Waiting for the next Potter book? You'll love this!", and "Potter fans should read this book". I mean, come on people! Sigh... Anyway...to the book. This book was as good as the last one, and I highly recommed getting it. The characters are followed through very well, and the plot gets an interesting twist when Foaly gets trapped because of himself. For all fans of Artemis Fowl(all ages). I recommed this book to anyone who likes fantasy with a twist.
Rating: Summary: Artemis in the Arctic! Review: Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident is actually a GOOD sequel! The intelligence of the child prodigy is endless, as usual. However, in this book, readers can see a softer side of Artemis. He searches for his father, convinced that he is still alive. Our familiar characters return, and new friends (and enemies) are introduced. A great read for all...
Rating: Summary: Another great Artemis Fowl book by Eoin Colfer ! Review: Mr Colfer keep `em coming! Great storyline! Great laugh's! Great action. Great read. I loved it, Artemis Fowl trying to save his father, but caught up in a goblin revolt led by someone from the first book, Captain Short's heroic's, Root and Foaly need I say no more, that big bodyguard Butler, even to put it in Holly's words "the most gung-ho officer in LEP" Trouble Kelp and his baby bro Grub plus the return of that "convict" dwarf---Mulch Diggums. And an end to drive you crazy for more! The only bad things is that on two or three pages get a bit boring and I think it should have been 100-200 pages longer. Other than that it was great.
Rating: Summary: Good, with a few flaws... Review: I'm a huge fan of Fantasy books... DragonLance, Elminster, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, whatever. I've read them. Artemis Fowl looked interesting, so I picked it up (along with Artctic Incident) and read them. True, it's a page turner, but I often found myself wondering why I kept reading. The storyline is odd, but gripping. Fun characters and all, but some parts of the writing seem really Juvenile to me. Repeated word choice in the same sentences and the like are present, too. I probably sound like a picky english teacher, but they seem incredibly apparent. A welcome return of the old cast ups the score, along with some interesting twists near the end (no spoilers here, sorry.) If you like fantasy bizarreness, pick this up for sure. -Ashton, 13
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Review: I read the book Artemis Fowl the Arctic Incident by Eion Colfer. It was a good book. It was action packed and fun to read. The lower elements are under siege and meanwhile Artemis's father is being held hostage. Now Holly and Artemis must team up and save the day. Will Artemis finally be reunited with his father? Read the book to find out!
Rating: Summary: mmmmmh - another disappointing sequel Review: I liked Colfer's first book, although it did include a lot of themes that I felt were a bit difficult for children to handle and many other reviewers have debated that point as well. Having said that, both kids that read the book loved them and were eagerly awaiting the sequel. The squel definitely was not as well written as the first (but that's an adult point of view and my friend's kids didn't really think so....), and Colfer must have read some of his reviews, because he did seem to put more effort into include more positive themes for the kids, which is good. Kids loved it, so what can I say?
Rating: Summary: The Artic Incident Review: Eoin Colfer's second installment of the Artemis Fowl series is called Artemis Fowl: The Artic Incident. The tone of this book is slightly different than the last with a little more action and a softer side to Artemis Fowl. Artemis continues his search for is father, and gets an anonymous tip about his whereabouts. This tip is tracked to somewhere in the Arctic. Meanwhile, in the "Lower Elements" fairies are having their own troubles. There has been smuggling going on with human items. Holly Short, a member of the LEPrecon police force, has encountered Artemis Fowl in the last book and is sure that he is behind this. Soon the fairies use their technology and discover that Artemis is not behind this. The fairies and Artemis both need to work together and help eachother, but things may not always work out as planned. This book has a lot more action in it, so if you were craving for an action andventure in the first book this one should be more to your liking. If you read the first book, Artemis and Holly Short have some of their own problems together that they havent worked out. And Artemis has a lighter side to him revealed in this book which was almost vacant in the first book. The plot is still interesting with new events popping up all over. If you liked the last book you are sure to enjoy this one, but if you havent read the first one. I would suggest it because it really helps you make more connections and makes the book a lot more interesting. But no matter whether you have read the First one or not this book is a must read for everyone of all ages.
