Summary: Great Book
Review: Artemis Fowl the criminal now 13 year old boy genius is back with Butler. So is his arch-enemy Captain Holly Short of LEPrecon who is not so happy at her recent defeat at his hands. Fowl is happier and richer after his last incident with Holly. Now that Fowl's mother is sane again he has been sent to boarding school where he has been causing problems for the school phyciatrist. Then he gets an email from the Russian Mafyia saying they have his father hostage and show a video of him. Fowl heads to Russia but is stopped by a rather unhappy Miss Short. After the last incident Holly has been demoted and embarrased even though it was not her fault. Holly has devolped a hatred of Fowl. LEPrecon has a problem. A human is giving Goblins batteries. Naturally they suspect the criminal Artemis Fowl. Although Artemis is innocent LEPrecon forces him to come to the Lower Elements. After (unhappily for Holly)he is found innocent he makes a deal with LEPrecon that he helps them and they help him. Holly is not delighted with this at all. Then things get bad for them. This is areally good book and this time around does not revolve around money.

Summary: If you were impressed with the first book...
Review: ... then you'll love the second.

In this book Artemis Fowl, a thirteen year old criminal mastermind is on year older and one year wiser. He is living in an Irish boarding school when he receives a message about the man he thought he'd never see again, his father Artemis Fowl Senior. Meanwhile Captain Holly Short and Commander Root of the LEPrecon forces face a huge problem when they discover that goblins, one of the stupidest forms or fairy, have been receiving human help and are turning into a threat in the fairy world. Artemis, Butler, and the fairies are once again thrown together, but this time under different circumstances. They make a deal, if Artemis helps them with their problem, they'll help him find his father. Easy right? Well, if you think that you could be no further from the truth. The goblin's scheme is more complicated than anyone would have guessed. Artemis and co. soon find themselves fighting for their lives.

While I loved the first book, Artemis Fowl, I was blown away by the second. Eoin Colfer proves what a talented author he really is with the wonderfully three-dimensional and original characters you find in this book. Like the first book it was suspenseful, action packed, and very comedic. Unlike the first book you get to see Artemis use his powers for good and play the hero for once, something that Artemis isn't too keen on. If you're a fan of the first book in the series I highly recommend reading the second. The Arctic Incident is a prime example of why kids fantasy is such a great genre.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This is the second book in the Artemis Fowl series. Usually, in a series like this one, the first book is much better than all of it's predecessors. The sequels are generally lacking compared to the original. However, in "The Arctic Incident", exactly the opposite was true. I found that I enjoyed the second Artemis Fowl considerably more than the first.

Artemis Fowl is a highly unusual boy. At 13, he is a genius, proving to be a problem for both his parents and his school's rapidly retiring counselors. In the previous novel, Artemis also provided a lot of trouble for the underground, magical world of fairies, centaurs, and many other mythical creatures. So naturally, when goblins begin to revolt against the fairy police (the LEPrecon) using human technology, fairy Captain Holly Short decides to check in with Artemis and his sidekick and bodyguard, Butler. Artemis is not responsible for the chaos in the magical world, but he strikes a deal with Holly - he'll help the fairies if they help his get back his kidnapped father from the Russian Mafiya. Holly, Artemis, Butler, and Fairy Commander Julius Root are swept into the adventure of their lifetime, filled with danger, excitement, and (as they soon learn) most importantly, teamwork.

So what's left to say? I was happily surprised by this outstanding novel, and I'm sure that you be will too. Most likely, I'll be reading this book a few more times before the next Artemis adventure arrives in bookstores!

Summary: Front and Centaur
Review: This excellent sequel had my rapt attention throughout - the writing is clever (even some of the names of the chapters are well-worded and funny), the story moved along well, the characters had depth and substance and were easy to get to know and love (or hate). Why did I title my review "Front and Centaur"? Foaly, the brilliant gadget and electronic whiz, who is the centaur on center stage, plays an interesting role here. Read the book and you'll understand. Reading the first Artemis Fowl will help, because Artemis's attitude in "The Arctic Incident" cannot be fully appreciated if the reader doesn't know where Artemis has been (in the first novel) or where he has come from. This story focuses not only on Artemis's attempt to rescue his father (aided by Holly Short and Commander Root), but also on Short and Root's mission (aided by Artemis and Butler, Artemis's bodyguard) of getting to the bottom of a strange goblin uprising.

Artemis and Butler, as well as Capt. Short and Commdr Root, all showcase a wide range of interactions, feelings, thoughts, plans... they make a fantastic team and work so well together! This doesn't mean that everything comes easily to them or that one of them doesn't get smacked at some point in the game or that they all sidestep danger without losing a step... oh no, I bet you'll be sitting on the edge of your chair (or couch) and wondering how the team will make it through the next disaster...

Summary: Good- but kind of confusing
Review: OK, I'm an Eoin Colfer lover and I think this one will keep your attention, but this isn't his best. I think that Artemis may have toned down a little too much. I mean, he's almost an ordinary genius in this one, not a genius-criminal-mastermind-let's-take-over-the-world-and-add-a-few-trillion-dollars-to-my-already-gigantium-fortune kind of guy. Besides, I think that the scenes in the chutes are a little hard to follow. Oh well, I thought it was worth reading anyway!

Summary: A definite improvement over the original.
Review: Like Stephen King and Peter Straub's Black House, this sequel was better than the first with new characters and a totally different scope of characters we thought we knew.

Although I gave Artemis Fowl 5 stars, this is definitly better. Artemis has progressed through a cold lifeless being with no regards for human life to a more friendlier person (although he is somewhat too smart for his own good; at one point, he informs a character that the chair they are sitting in is a faux). While in the first one he was doing horrible things and questioning his conscience, and doing it anyway he progresses in this novel. Although I don't want Mr. Fowl to be a loving boy who sits in the meadow sniffing flowers, I dont want him to be a robot.

I also like his relationship with Holly. Through the book they both save each other's lives, and their relationship forms through a reluctant alliance to a friendly rivalship. While some people might not like this development, I enjoyed it.

The humor has also improved. While the first one had some rather tasteless bathroom humor, the humor here made me laugh. In one case, Artemis forges an angry letter from his mother to the school.

I highly reccomend this book. It ends on a more conclusive note than the last one, and a sequel is not that neccessary, although I would love one.

Summary: A Great Book But....
Review: Artemis Fowl is back in his second encounter with arch-enemy Captain Holly Short of LEPrecon. This time around Fowl works with LEPrecon instead of battling them. After Fowl's last adventure Fowl's a lot richer and happier. Holly on the other hand is in a lot of trouble. In Boarding School Fowl receives an email from his missing father in the Arctic. Fowl rushes to his aid but is stopped by Holly. Holly and her Fairy friends have a problem with a certain Goblin gang getting batteries from humans and it seems that there is someone in LEP is helping the goblins. Holly's Prime suspect is Fowl. After discovering Fowl is innocent LEP and Fowl make a deal. He helps them if they help him retrieve his father. Oh yeah, Mulch is back. The storyline is good and so is the character development but Fowl acts to much like a hero in this book considering he is an Anti-hero.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good read
Review: I liked this book. It was pleasant and fun to read. I didnt find it quite as good as the first Artemis Fowl, but still enjoyable.

Artemis's father, kidnapped before the previous book, has been located. And with the help of the fairies, Artemis and Butler set out to track him down. But while Root and Holly are above ground, things start getting out of hand below. Goblin rebellions, and the LEP unable to fight back!

Recommended for kids ages 9-15, boys and girls, and for adults who like a light entertaining read.
