Rating: Summary: Yahoo! Review: Yes! The adventure continues. And this is a stunning sequel, if there ever was any. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for even more installments, for this looks like a great series. This time round, Artemis has trouble come to him, instead of the other way around. In the first book, if you remember, he was cooking up his own scemes, but now he is on the L.E.P black-list, and as such, automaticaly a suspect when anything smells of mud-man intervension. And so, he is whirled into a goblin invasion, a sceme to take over the Lower Elements, and, to top it all off, he has just recieved a message that might lead him to his kidnapped father. But will Artemis find himself in more trouble than he can handle? If you liked the first book then I probably don't need to tell you that you will like this one as well. But this is not a mere rip-off of the first story, this is a story in its own right. What I really like is that the whole story does not focus on Artemis. The other characters, some well loved from the first book, others brand new, find themselves in a load of their own trouble. Holly has to deal with the aftermath of the events in the first book, as she is now an embarrasment to the LEP police, and a public notoriety, namely "the crazy girl officer". Foaly has to face an old "friend". Mulch Diggums is in deep trouble as always. And everyone else just has to run for their lives! I always recomend that people begin with the first book in a series, but if you dont want to then thats fine in this case. The story is self-contained and you will have no trouble keeping up. Again, the book has a few small glitches, but gets its full five stars for achieving exactly what it wants to. It is true to its audience and delivers the goods. A hearty recomendation to The Artic Incident.
Rating: Summary: Even Better Than The First Book !!! Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read! In it, you meet some cool new characters as well as seeing the ones from the first book. A wonderful book for anyone who likes the books by Lemony Snicket. You will probably really enjoy this book!
Rating: Summary: Fowl is Back!! Review: Both of the "Artemis Fowl" Books are WONDERFUL!!!!!! They are suspenseful, funny, sarchastic, and downright odd, among other things. Just the thought of the first one being as it was surprised me, now this?! Come on, a pre-teen multi-millionare super-genius crime-boy dealing with FARIES trying to rescue his supposedly DEAD dad froom the Russian mophia. Doesn't that strike you as a bit odd? At the same time, a fairy is trying to take over the world. There's a centuar, a 7-foot tall butler, faries, humans, trolls, and a whole bunch of other things!! I have honestly read both of them each at least 11 times each! They're GREAT!!! You should read them. You really should. Hope this helped! By the way, I'm an 11-year old boy , but anyone will love these books.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Is Back Review: Artemis Fowl is a very good book. Now he's 13, a year older than before. But now, instead of trying to get gold from the LEP(Lower Elements Police), he's trying to get them to help him find his father, who is in northern Russia, or, the Arctic. In order to get them to do this, he has to help them destroy the B'wa Kell, which are goblins. But if you want to see if they succeed or not, you'll have to read the book. On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate it a 11 and one fourth. The really significant thing about this is it's about pixies, warlock docters, elves, goblins, etc. I think that the most appropriate audiences are 10 years and up. READ THIS BOOK! I CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE YOU WILL LIKE IT!
Rating: Summary: GOOD FOR TIME-PASSING Review: Artemis Fowl returns as Colfer's genius teenager criminal mastermind in this book which has action sequences that reminds one strongly of movies like 'Broken Arrow' and dozen others. The book proves to be quite a page-turner from the first and guarantees a rocking ride. Peppered with Mr. Colfer's witticism and a tad excessive comical innuendos about people's behind and colonic contents this book has the rare ability to keep people glued till the last. But humor isn't always the best substitute for substance as is the case here. The book sorely lacks the richness and scholarship exhibited so masterfully in 'HARRY POTTER' or 'His Dark Materials' series. An excessive use of technical jargon also hinders smooth reading as the reader is bound to keep reminding himself that this isn't a classified NASA file. Also the beauty of the first book was that Artemis was the hero(or antihero, take your pick) in the truest sense of the term whereas here he takes somewhat of a back seat letting others run the show. But all in all if you some time in hand and are interested in some rip-roaring comedy and swash-buckling adventure this is one book you sure do'nt wanna miss. Lets hope Artemis will soon be back in his charming evil self.
Rating: Summary: First book, plus NutraSweet... Review: OK, now is the time to ask ourselves, what made the first Artemis Fowl book so amazingly incredibly COOL? It was cool BECAUSE ARTEMIS WAS EVIL! Artemis was an evil twisted little boy. He was DIFFERENT from other characters! He didn't follow the tired old "bad guy turns good in the end" thingy, he was bad and stayed bad. THERE WAS NO SHAME IN THE BADNESS, it was just bad... Intense, very intense... Apparently for this book the author HUGELY chickened out. Artemis now has "feeeeeeelings..." He does the shy little "oh, I'm sorry poor little fairy people... sniff sniff..." thing. Plus he and Holly keep having these MOMENTS. Urg. In short, Artemis Fowl has been turned into another Harry Potter. How depressing.
Rating: Summary: Stay back, Human -- You don't know what you're dealing with Review: Before you enter the underground world of the fairies, gnomes, goblins, elves, dwarves and sprites known as the Lower Elements, please be aware that you will most probably get zapped in the behind by a buzz baton, blown away by dwarven gas, or mindwiped by fairy magic. For you are a Mud Man . . . So stay back human, you don't know what you're dealing with. In the first Artemis Fowl book, 12-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl steals gold from the fairies because his family is broke. The Russian mafia has captured his father. In the sequel, The Arctic Incident, goblins are running around abandoned fairy-world cities with illegal weapons powered by human batteries. The fairies capture Artemis Fowl, thinking he is supplying the batteries to the goblins. When the fairy Holly, the very first female LEP officer (LEP: lower Elements Police), comes to get Artemis he agrees to go to her underground world. Commander Root of the LEP interrogates Artemis using fairy magic that made him tell the truth. It turns out he isn't helping Goblins. So the fairies make him a deal: they help Artemis get his father back, and he helps them track down whoever was supplying the Goblins. On the way to Russia, Artemis and the fairies were attacked by Goblins with illegal lasers. They return to Haven City only to find bigger problems. (I won't give away the ending, but it is awesome.) This is the BEST book I have ever read and I hope there will be an Artemis Fowl 3.My favourite character was Mulch the dwarf because he is so funny and it is also funny how his body works. Eoin Colfer's imaginary world, the lower elements, creates a terrific environment for many exciting adventures. This book engages your imagination from the first page to the final page.
Rating: Summary: Overhyped, slick and sick Review: As a teacher, this stuff really bothers me. Why on earth is it a good idea to celebrate violence, bad manners, nasty behavior, and just pure dysfunctionality in kids' books? Not only do they not need this garbage, but the most annoying thing about it is that all of it is a gimmick for limited writing talent. I don't find Mr. Colfer's prose any better at times than that of my fifth grade students.
