Summary: This book really hit home.
Review: As the eldest child raised in a "single-mom household," I felt Morris really captured the intimate feelings of the entire family. It was entertaining, enlighting, and an emotional adventure.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: A Waste of Time
Review: This book was a complete waste of my time. The characters learn nothing and go nowhere. One of the worst books I've ever read.

Summary: This Book Is Great!
Review: I read Songs In Ordinary Time last summer. I thought is was a great summer book. It had a lot of meaning to it. You just had to look to find the meaning. It was a long book but I just could not put it down. The characters were realistic not some make believe characters you could not indentify with. I would recomend this book to everyone!

Summary: Absolutely loved this book!
Review: This book took me from my back porch to the town of Atkinson; I didn't return home until I finished the last page! Once I started reading this book, I found it impossible to put down. This book had an astounding cast of well-developed characters, all unique in their own way with their own troubles, yet all connected in some way. Because there were so many different story lines going on simultaneously, I loved the way the scenes were broken down in small chapters. This style gave it a very quick-paced feel. As for content, Morris has accurately reflected true life and basic human wants, needs, fears and struggles regardless of age or social status in Any Town, USA. Truly a real book!

Summary: Too many words, not enough content
Review: Mary Morris could have written Songs in Ordinary Time in 300pages, and it would have been a good story. The book just went on andon and on....... I felt if she did not shoot that scam artist and get him out of her life, I would for her. It took a lot of patience to finish this book.

Summary: If you really want to read this, buy it at a garage sale!
Review: To summarize: I wish that I had not spent my money on this book. The characters went nowhere, the writing was substandard and displayed neither creativity nor imagery; sure it was a semi-interesting story, but I expected more.

Summary: Terrible!
Review: This was by far the worst book I have ever read. I kept reading because I figured it couldn't get any worse--but it did. It was depressing, and the skipping around of story lines made it hard to get into. I forced myself to continue figuring something good had to happen to somebody at some point--and it didn't. I'm sorry I wasted my time.

Summary: exquisite
Review: McGarry Morris had captured the essence of small town life. The characters are real. You feel as if you know most of them.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A very imaginative story with a powerful ending.
Review: IThe characters in this book could be your next door neighbors. The story is about the mistakes everyday people make in life, but in the book those mistakes are magnified in small town Vermont. Then the hero comes along to save the damsel in distress, but he is ofcourse not what he seems to be. In the end, a mothers love and dignity rise above disapointment in order to survive. The story is common, but the authors writing and character development make these people unusual in their "realness". I recommend this book and others by this author.

Summary: a book I HAD to put down!!!
Review: I've read many books I couldn't put down, books that I wished would go on and on. This is the first book I HAD to put down, because my emotional connection to the characters was so complete, I was afraid to find out what happened to them! Marie's life is so pathetic and her choices so self-distructive, it's like watching a car wreck--it's hideous and you turn away, then find yourself looking again. If you need a silver lining and a happy ending to enjoy a book, this one may not be for you, but it's almost impossible to keep from being pulled in, once you start reading.
