Summary: Number the Stars
Review: Annemarie and her best friend Ellen are living thought the war. When the Nazi solders "relocated" some of the Jews, both families get worried. Annemarie and her family helps some of the Jews to escape. When a pakage is lost, it's up to Annemarie to find it and give it to her uncle, who's ship is carring the Jews. Now, two years after, the war is over many have died, but Annemarie and her friend can reunite.

My favorite part was when the war ended. It was shocking to find that finally the war had ended in two years. When I read this book I could feel the sadness of the story. when the war ended I felt proud for the people that died for their country. What I couldn't understand was why the German wanted to "Relocate" the Jews.

I think that this book give a great deal of imformation. It seems so real when you are reading the part when the solders see Annemarie. I think this book is great to read.

Summary: The Trumpet of the Swan
Review: Louis is a swan that is born dumb. That just means that he can't talk. He decided to go find Sam, one of his human friends and hopes that Sam could help him out. Sam does help alot and changes Louis's whole life. First, Sam lets Louis go to school; second, Sam helps Louis pay for the trumpet Louis stole and last, he helps Louis get Serena, the swan that Louis is in love with. Louis helps Sam discover one thing: Sam's future job, being a zoo keeper.

My favorite part was the part when Sam found the perfect job for his future. There the story seems to end, because Louis helps Sam and it's like a pay back for what Sam has done. I especially remeber that a boy and a swan are best friends. I think that that is very perticular: a boy and a swan, what an inmagination!

I thought that this book is a very good book. I think that is has good vocabulary. I learned new words like "crepuscular." I really liked the ending idea adn the ending sentence.i also learned some things about the trumpeter swan. I greatly enjoyed this book.

Summary: Unbelievable,Incredible,Magical !!!
Review: Louis is a Trumpeter Swan whose species are nearly extinct. He is born without a voice and won't be able to woo pretty female swans or communicate with his parents and his siblings.Sam,an animal lover befriends Louis and helps him read and write.Very extraordinary! I have never heard of an animal who can read and write. When Louis comes home,he wears a slate and chalk pencil around his elegant neck.He wrote on his slate,"Hi,there!".Unfortunately,Louis's parents don't understand what he is trying to say.His father says,"But I must prolong my welcoming remarks a bit longer, for my curiousity is aroused by that odd litle object Louis is wearing around his neck and by the strange symbols he has placed upon it by rubbing that white thing up and down and leaving those strange white symbols".I really laughed my head out.Louis falls in love with a beautiful swan,Serena. He writes down on his slate,"I love you".Meanwhile,Louis's father steals a trumpet from a music shop to help Louis to communicate.Louis tries very hard to play the trumpet and suceeds to play a note"Ko-hoh".He asks Sam to cut his webbed foot so then he could play the trumpet better as there are three valves that you have to play so that you can make many tunes. Many adventures happen. But then will Louis will be able to woo the lovely Serena whom he has fallen in love with at first sight? I recommend this to all children who love animals like me.

Summary: Unrealistic and Stereotypical
Review: This story is very unrealistic as only a story about talking animals can be. The author repeatedly refers to Louis' lack of a voice as defective. I would have preferred if Louis was labeled as just different instead of defective. Some things seem to come out of nowhere, for example, when Sam just figures out that Louis wants to learn to read and write. Sam must be telepathic! The first grade teacher that teaches Louis how to read and write, makes it seem so simple. This could be frustrating for children to see a swan pick up so easily something, that is really complex and involves a lot of interweaving skills. Louis has a lot of good qualities, but he seems to get a little depressing. Some portions of this book are gender biased and stereotypical. For example, when a teacher talks of girls solving a math problem that involves feeding babies. Boys can't feed babies? In addition, the author makes statements such as, musicians always need money. I tired of these constant general statements of the author's opinion. The boys camp also supports the naked swimming of children, counselors, and the head master of the camp together. This seems inappropriate for today's day and age. I might read this when doing a study of the great E.B. White, but not for it's literary value.

Summary: Entertaining and funny
Review: My seven year old son enjoyed this book. He kept running to tell me the funny things that happened along the way as the swan engaged in numerous adventures. The fact that this book is easy to read also makes it accessible to younger readers.

Summary: Another great book from E.B. White
Review: E.B. White has done it again, with another enchanting story featuring animals and compassionate kids. The Trumpet of the Swan is a story about a young trumpeter swan named Louis who has no voice. He meets a young boy named Sam who decides to try and help Louis. Sam buys Louis a trumpet so he can communicate with his friends.

This is an excellent book about friendship, and any fans of Charlotte's Web or Stuart Little will enjoy it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Witty, funny, and endearing!
Review: Don't hesitate to pick up this book and read it, even if you are an adult! The characters are well developed and the journey Louis takes is full of excitement and fun. There are also several lessons learned along the way. E.B. White has created a unique place where the unlikely seems plausible.
