Summary: By the night, readers will cherish this Medieval romance
Review: Best selling historical romance author Shannon Drake provides Medieval romance readers with a rousing epic that thankfully is the first act of a series. COME THE MORNING is packed with action, twelfth century intrigue, and a heated romance. The historical tidbits such as David's study of Hastings adds incredible depth and motivation to the powerful plot. When readers finish the book COME THE MORNING , they will plead with Ms. Drake and Kensington to not wait till next year to release the next novel CONQUER THE NIGHT.

Summary: Lacking that certain 'je ne sais quoi.'
Review: Consistent character development, perhaps?

Though I enjoy historical *and* romantic novels, the scale seemed to be chronically tipped in this novel. There is a definite imbalance between the two concepts.

Our hero, Waryk de Graham is introduced in a factual, yet dramatic manner. You see a potential for depth in this character. HOWEVER, don't be deluded. Such visions will never come to fruition.

What's more, the heroine, Mellyora, follows along the same path---which is to say, she is as shallow as the evening tide that surrounds her coveted, rock Isle. Given the spoiled, immature---not to mention, dimwitted---behavior of our leading lady, one can't help but wonder why the poor lass isn't put out of her misery (much like a horse)...or, at least, upended over Lord Lion's noble knee. Quite sad, really...once you've made the effort to read the book in its entirety.

Yet she continues to be a twit...and he...a lackluster hero...and so, there you have it.

Even the timeline, which I only discovered upon completion of the book (i.e., at the end), is located in an inappropriate place. What was she thinking?

Ah, well. It's only money, right?

Should you be interested in a *real* historical novel, save your pennies for a Dorothy Dunnett masterpiece.

As for romance, keep searching. There's bound to be another Lindsey in the world.

I hope.

Summary: Come The Morning
Review: DID not like the book. The story is missing something. Lots of ideas, none of them contribute to story. Suffered through 90% of the book, went to ending of book, only to realize I should have stopped reading after 10%.

Summary: Good but could have been beter
Review: I also think it did not flow but other then that it was verry good

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great story but heavy history
Review: I always enjoy a story with background history but this gets a little too intense at times. The author would do better to put her timeline at the front of the book so that readers could refer to it as needed. The relationship between Mellyora and Waryk is more believeable than in many historical romance novels, no clear cut "love at first sight" here. I look forward to the next novel in the series, but I think it is cheap for the publisher to print a preview in the back of a hardcover novel.

Summary: Read a Different Drake
Review: I am a fan of Shannon Drake under all her names, but her work has suffered in recent years reaching an all-time low with Come the Morning.

Mellyora is a selfish, spoiled brat of a heroine that I was hoping someone would kill within the first 30 pages of the book. One would think that if we are really to believe her suited to rule in her father's place that she would be able to behave with more maturity than your average 6th grader. But,no. She must wail and moan at the horror of being promised to a Norman (can we just get over this cliche? We all know the Normans and the Saxons were enemies but this has been done to death. She's not even pure Saxon). She must-- not once or even twice but FIVE TIMES-- rush off like a total idiot in open defiance of her king to avoid her responsibilities as a vassal.

She has no discipline and no integrity and then has the gall to be offended later when her husband doesn't trust her word after spending more than half the book running from and betraying him.

Waryk, on the other hand might've been interesting except that we never understand why he repeatedly lets Mellyora run off. Additionally, any amount of bravery or integrity or character he exhibits must be undermined by the simple fact that he falls in love with the irredeamably selfish heroine.

The history was nice but as another reader has mentioned it overpowered what little romance there was--perhaps this is why we never understand the love story. It hardly exists. I like real history in with my romance but without more character development I have to wonder why I'm reading a romance novel as a history tutorial.

Summary: easily enraptured
Review: I am always eager to pick up a new Shannon Drake/Heather Graham novel, and I'm glad I picked up this one. The plot unfolds rather quickly as the reader is introduced to Laird Lion and later Mellyora and they take on the usual characteristics of hero/heroine in a Drake novel. but that's what makes the book exciting. Granted, some of the events are easily foreshadowed, but Drake does it in a way that has some kind of twist. Another aspect of her novels is the reference to historical events. Mentioning all of the wars and personalities lends a truthfulness that make her tales fantastically beautiful. I have a hard time keeping myself from searching for a new Drake novel that I have not yet read!

Summary: Boring
Review: I am an avid Shannon Drake fan and love all of her other medival romance novels. However, this was the absolute worst book I ever read. The characters had no substance and the plot boring and predictable. I am usually drawn into the stories she weaves, but I could barely make it through this one. Shannon, looking forward to some of your better work, such as Princess of Fire, Lie Down in Roses, etc. This one should be burned at the stake!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: NOT just another shallow love story
Review: I applaude Shannon Drake for her exceptional talent at story telling. "Come The Morning" captured my heart and attention from the first page to the last. Her attention to detail never became boring to me. It was a wonderful lesson in history as well as a great love story between two very likable and believable characters. Definitely not for the shallow book reader. Absolutely a keeper.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very Addicting, full of action!
Review: I found this book to be difficult to put down! Drake does an excellent job with the dialogues, and leaves the reader anticipating the future of her characters. This book is full of historical fact, and informative. It follows the points of view of different lively, characters, which helps to broaden the perspective.
