Rating: Summary: A very interesting but flawed book. Review: Although Ms. Williamson does an admirable job in explaining many of the concepts in A Course in Miracles, she gets off track in making the typical new age mistake of denying the Sonship of Jesus Christ, something which is essential to a full comprehension of A Course in Miracles. She seems to think that all the "masters" are alike, failing to understand that Jesus is "the way, the truth and the life." Although the author is correct in stating that there are many paths to the truth, she is wrong in failing to realize that the Truth is by a narrow path which is faith in Jesus Christ. There is in reality only one "master" and as the saying goes "too many captains sink the ship." New agers also tend to downplay the power of God, and arrogantly upplay human achievement. A close and spiritual reading of A Course in Miracles will show that it is in perfect harmony with the New Testament, a fact which is to be expected since both are inspired by the Holy Spirit. Also, Christian morality is not made "relative" by A Course in Miracles. Attempting to justify abortion or homosexuality through a misreading of ACIM would be a foolish and dangerous mistake. Overall this book is very interesting and useful, as long as the reader keeps in mind the aforementioned caveats.
Rating: Summary: For A Broken Spirit Review: This book is a must have for every woman. It helped me to understand why relationships sometimes don't work. And how I could overcome the pains and devastation of a breakup. Especially, when left for another woman. I cried, I isolated myself from the world, I lost my self-esteem, I lost the will to want to live. Then a friend brought me this book and told me to please read it. It sat on my desk for weeks before I had the desire to read again. One day I picked it up, and started to read it. I wasn't able to put it down. I felt as if the book was written just for me. So for every broken spirit, brought on by others. Read this, and you will make Marianne your favorite author. God Bless her work. For even if it just heales one soul. In my eyes she was a heaven sent messager from God..... Thank you Marianne,,,,,
Rating: Summary: A wolf in sheep's clothing Review: Readers who suppose that this innocent, warm-sounding little tome is a companion piece to their Torahs and Bibles are in for a rude awakening. This book (and A Course in Miracles, on which it is based) gives spiritual naifs another gospel to immerse themselves in if the original is unacceptable. If it were possible to give this book no stars, I would. One star is one too many. A psychologist friend of mine gave me this book for my birthday in 1992. It would be five years before I read it (and ACIM), but in the meantime I had undertaken a thorough study of the Bible, which prepared me for the the redefinition of practically every Old and New Testament term (God, Heavenly Father, Son of God, Jesus, Christ, Christ in you, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, love, atonement, prayer, sin...and so on. Ms. Williamson's book and the Course are ostensibly based on Scripture, but what Scripture there is is quoted out of context, twisted, perverted, and redefined until it means the opposite of what was originally intended. The Course was originally written, or more accurately, channeled, by an occultic atheist, using a spirit guide that called itself Jesus. Keeping in tune with the New Age, the Course mixes into the stew the rudiments of Jungian psychology, Hinduism, Buddhism, and pantheism. Some might think that overtly evil documents like The Satanic Bible are the principal threats to our spiritual health, but the devil's most fruitful work is done by subverting, rather than replacing, God's Word. If Oprah Winfrey is your idea of someone who is on the spiritual and intellectual ball, this garbage might appeal to you, but Christians and Jews beware. This kind of bad spiritual advice was prophesied long ago. Most people don't have the foundation in biblical study to resist this kind of logic. It's taylor made to appeal to those who have rejected the Gospel, especially those who fancy themselves as smarter than the bleating masses who stubbornly keep going to Bible preaching churches and believe that there is ultimate Truth in the holy scriptures. This is a life-changing book, all right. In my life I've read thousands of books, but this one is the only one that ever made me physically ill while I plodded through it. It has my vote as the worst book ever written, hands down. Avoid!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read. Review: This is one of the best books I've ever read-(and I've read many, many books). A Return to Love will change for the better the way you see the world and yourself. What prompted me to write this review, though, was the comment by a previous reviwer that A Return to Love "distorts Christ's teachings". This position implies and assumes that one particular interpretation of Christ's teachings is 'the truth' and anything that disagrees with that is false and wrong. Traditional church Christianity does not own the sole rights to the interpretation of Christ's teachings. In fact, it should be noted that traditional Christianity's interpretation of Christ's teachings was made by people who thought the world was flat and regularly stoned women to death. A Return to Love presents a far more loving, compassionate and insightful interpretation of religous writings than does traditional religon. It is highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Essential first step. Review: For all of those that really need to make a first step towards, essential living and cast away their troubled, stressful past, this book is a really good one. But after the first step is done, there need more to follow. Caging your entire being into the Golden Cage of God's Will and surrendering your most precious merit, your freedom, to that extend, isn't a New Start anymore, but an Old Ending. Transcend this "Holy Principle" and It's "representatives" on this life and you will ascend to your life's supremum and conquer the essence of Freedom.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant, inspired, practical spiritual wisdom Review: This book is packed with profound and practical spiritual truths. Marianne Williamson is writing with deep compassion and obviously has considerable first-hand experience of the principles she's writing about. The basic message here is that we are all perfect expressions of love, and that the energy of love and God is all there is. Anything else is an illusion. All the judgments of oneself and others, feelings of superiority and inferiority and so on fall away if one chooses a path of unconditional surrender to God's will, that being the truth of who one is. Many practical examples of how to apply this approach are presented. I found the chapters on relationships and work particularly interesting. As someone who struggled to get to grips with the original "A Course In Miracles" in the 1980s, I thank Marianne Williamson for giving us a more accessible version of the same powerful truths. As with the original text, some people (e.g. me!) may be a bit uncomfortable with some of the use of Christian terminology, but God and God's love are being re-defined here, in a similar fashion to Neale Donald Walsch's extraordinary "Conversations With God" books. Masterful stuff!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK CHANGED MY LIFE!! Review: I am usually not interested in reading, but I could not put this book down! It was easy to read and was very enlightening. Marianne uses the Course in Miracles philosophy and as a result, I have signed up for the Course myself. I was having difficulty realizing that I deserved the best that life has to offer but now I realize I do and my life has changed dramatically, for the better! Thank you Marianne, and now I'm reading A Womans Worth and it is just as wonderful. I recommend it to anyone!
Rating: Summary: A Return to Sanity Review: This slim volume is wise beyond words. Author Williamson manages to convey in simple terms much of the essence of A Course in Miracles, whose three-part focus and intricate reasoning may be offputting to many. This is an excellent introduction to A Course, and can be easily enjoyed by long-term students of the Course.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Marianne Williamson takes Course In Miracles concepts and shows how they apply to her personal life. The book is honest and inspiring. I enjoyed the book. I would also highly recommend the book An Encounter With A Prophet for more honesty and inspiration derived from personal spiritual experience.
