Rating: Summary: Not Bad At All!!!! Review: Do not pass up this touching story of friendship, tears, and complete trust. From the start, you are pulled in by the simple yet exquisite wording. "My name is India Opal Buloni, and last summer my daddy, the preacher, sent me to the store for a box of macaroni-and-cheese, some white rice, and two tomatoes and I came back with a dog." India goes to the Winn-Dixie supermarket. But there is a dog inside, a mangy mutt. The manager is about to call the pound, but India rescues the dog by telling the owner that it is her dog (she had never seen the animal before in her life). Poor India had had to move to another town. She had no friends, a mom that had run away when India was just a toddler, and a dad who was so much of a preacher that behind his back she calls him just that-"the preacher". So the only friend she has is the dog, who she calls Winn-Dixie. But, "Because of Winn-Dixie", she ends up making friends with many, many people she never dreamed she would. Like sweet but sinning Gloria Dump, librarian story-teller Miss Franny, the two bald Dunlap brothers, pinch-faced Amanda, jailed Otis who has a way with music and animals, and even wimpy thumb-sucking 6 year old Sweetie Pie Thomas. Not the worlds best book, but definitely worth reading.

Rating: Summary: A Dog That Has Never Forgoten. Review: Do you want to read a realistic fiction? If you do, you might want to read this excellent book called Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. It is about a girl named India Opal Buloni who has red hair and freckles. She is a warm hearted and generous girl. The story took place at the Winn-Dixie grocery store in Naomi, Florida. It all started when India found a stray dog in the grocery store and named it after the store, Winn-Dixie. India wanted to keep Winn-Dixie so she went home to ask the preacher, her dad, if she could keep it. The preacher thought about it for a long time and finally decided yes. India took good care of Winn-Dixie and almost washed it every day. One morning, India took Winn-Dixie to the Herman W. Block Memorial Library and let it look through the window while she was choosing the books. Suddenly, Miss Franny, the librarian, screamed and said there was a bear at the window. Actually the bear was Winn-Dixie and Miss Franny liked it a lot. That was how India made her first friend in Naomi, Florida. India wanted to buy a collar for Winn-Dixie so she went to a pet shop to buy one. She found out that the collar was too expensive so she said she would work for Otis, the shop assistance, for one week and get the collar. While India was going home, Winn-Dixie jumped over the fence where people said there was a witch living there. India rapidly went through the gate to get Winn-Dixie. When she got there, she saw an old lady feeding peanut butter to Winn-Dixie and she apologized to the old lady but the old lady said it was ok and made her a peanut butter sandwich. The old lady's name was Gloria Dump. That was how India made another friend. One day, there was a party given and everybody was invited (Otis, the preacher, Miss Franny, Stevie, Dunlap, Amanda Wilkinson and Sweetie Pie Thomas). Miss Franny brought Littmus Lozenges and Otis brought pickles. All of sudden, rain began to pour down and Winn-Dixie was gone! Would they find Winn-Dixie or not? Read the book to find out! I recommend this book because the author keeps you guessing what will happen next. The ending of this book is very surprising and it is a great written novel.
Rating: Summary: Best Friends Review: Set in a small town called Naomi in Florida, Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo is a realistic book about a young girl missing her mom trying to make new friends in a new town, living with her preacher dad and her hyperactive dog Winn-Dixie. Ten-year-old Opal found her dog in a grocery store messing around. To save Winn-Dixie from the pound she said that was her dog and took him home. The preacher (Opal's dad) permitted her to keep it, just as opal hoped. Opal's preacher dad learnt to like Winn-Dixie more as the book went on. During the story Opal met many interesting people including the librarian Miss. Franny, pet shop worker and musician Otis, friend Sweetie Pie who also loves dogs and Gloria Dump called a witch by some. Some interesting parts include Otis getting animal's attention by playing his guitar. Winn-Dixie loving to hear stories told by Miss Franny in the library and Winn-Dixie having a pathological of thunder storms. I recommend this book to other people it is an easy book to read, not because it is simple but because it is entertaining. It is easy to imagine the characters life and the story seems believable. It also contains wonderful descriptive passages. Some parts were funny and some parts were sad. Each character has their own distinct personality in the story. This is a great book to read by yourself.
