Rating: Summary: Because of Winn-Dixie Review: I really like The Book Because of Winn-Dixie, because it seems like a real life story. I think that it is intresting that Opal made a lot of friends with her dog. I thought it would cause trouble. Miss Franny Block, Gloria Dump, Otis and Sweetie Pie Thomas were some of the friends that Opal made. I think it's sad that Opals mom left. Opal started to miss her a lot. The good thing was that Opal had some fun. She went to Sweetie Pie Thomas's birthday party and got a job at the pet store. I think these fun things helped Opal not to feel too bad about her mother. This is a very intresting realistic fiction book that you will never put down. I recomend this book to people who like to read a book very similar to real life.

Rating: Summary: Because of Winn-Dixie Review: I rate Because of Winn-Dixie a two star book because I liked it but you need to know how it feels to relate to it.I think kids who know how it is to have a dog,or how it is to not have many friends than make some and to go to the liberary and know you will have a friend there or go to the store and meet someone new.Opal can so I can't relate to it as much as say some one with a dog. That's why I give Because of Winn-Dixie a two star rating.

Rating: Summary: A heart-warming story about a girl and her best friend. Review: This book is about a 10 year old girl named India Opal Buloni who finds a dog in a grocery store and names it Winn-Dixie because that is the store's name. Her mom left her when she was three, and her father is a preacher. She was having quite a hard time finding friends, but ever since the dog came along he is helping her to find friends in the new town in Naomi, Florida. She mostly has old ladies as friends but there is one friend that is a young man. His name is Otis. Everyone loves the dog. I gave this book 5 stars because I love dogs and her dog is very smart. He also helps her in making friends. I recommend this book to kids all over.

Rating: Summary: Sweet. Just sweet. Review: I've given DiCamillo a fair shot, and at this point I can safely say that "Because of Winn-Dixie" is a nice book. I did enjoy a lot of it. This is not to say that I didn't have problems with it. DiCamillo, as an author, is just fascinated with the stereotypical, "wise black person". In fact, the character of Gloria Dump in this book and of Willie May in "The Tiger Rising" are two sides of the same coin. Both have illnesses (blindness and stiff joints), are old, are female, are black, and serve the ultimate purpose of helping out the white people (a fact I find rather offensive). On the plus side, this book is similar to DiCamillo's "Tiger Rising" in a number of ways, not least of which is dealing with your sorrows. And DiCamillo excels at displaying this life lesson. She is perhaps one of the best children's writers dealing with the topic of loss, but she needs to work on her characters a little. I've no objection to her simplified plots, because they usually fit within the context of her stories. Moreover, this book was a welcome addition to dog related kids literature (and I can't tell you how relieved I was to find the dog didn't die at the end). It would read well in class, and might be well paired with the slightly more complex and equally uplifting "Shiloh". And expect a lot more children to be requesting this book soon. After all, it's just been turned into a major motion picture.
Rating: Summary: Because of Winn Dixie a review by Colleen Review: "I walked into the Winn-Dixie grocery store and all of the sudden I heard people screaming everywhere! I went to see what was the matter. The problem was that there was a dog in the store." Do you like adventures and like to meet new people? If you do, you should read Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. Because of Winn-Dixie is about a young girl named India Opal Buloni, her great smart unselfish dog Winn-Dixie, and their great adventures in the town of Naomi. The protagonist, India, and her dog, Winn-Dixie, had a lot of adventures. One of them was when India found Winn-Dixie. One day India went to the Winn-Dixie grocery store. Everyone was screaming, but India had no clue what was the matter, and was exasperated. The conflict was that there was a dog in the store. The manager said if someone didn't claim the dog that they would have to put the dog to sleep. India felt so bad for the dog she said that it was her dog. India couldn't think of a name for the skittish dog at the time so she named the dog after the medium size store, Winn-Dixie. When they got back to India's silent home, Friendly Corners Trailer Park, she asked her father if she could keep Winn-Dixie. Another huge event for India and her dog, Winn-Dixie, is when they met Gloria Dump. She heard that Gloria was a real awful witch, very embittered and not very nice. India didn't believe all the rumors about Gloria, so she decided to go and meet her herself. Were the rumors true? Is she a witch or not? Read the book and find out for yourselves. Maybe she is or maybe she's not. Finally in conclusion, I thought that Because of Winn-Dixie was a good book. This book is like a field filled with flowers it was that good. It related to my life so much, and I am sure it could relate to your life as well. So I encourage you to go to your local library and read Because of Winn-Dixie.
