It was going to be sent to the pound, so she clamed it. Winn-Dixie helped Opal get accustomed to her new home, meet lots of people, and helped her get to know her dad again. This book was so good that I finished it in less that a week! No matter what age you are you will love this book especially if you like dog books. I really recommend it.
Rating: Summary: The Great Escape Review: In times like we face today, books like this don't come along often. This is a well written story - the writer writes as if speaking to you and telling you this story from the point of view of this little girl. You feel like you are part of the story - the dog is wonderful! If you want to escape... climb into this book. It makes for a great escape.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful for all ages Review: The 9-year-old boy I babysit for read this book and then lent it to me. (I'm 24.) I read it as quickly as I could. DiCamillo is a wonderful writer. She writes about very serious issues: moving, school, alcoholism, parents splitting up, being lonely, being poor, religion, in a way that anyone can understand. Often, books written for children about such serious issues, are obviously meant to be about those issues. This book is simply an engaging story that happens to deal with these issues. You really feel yourself in the story. I loved this book, and will definitely have it in my classroom. Also read Tiger Rising, her other book, and write to her to clamor for more books!
Rating: Summary: I LOVE WINN-DIXIE Review: I like this book because it is a very interesting book. It is one of those books that you can't put down. It is about a girl named Opal and a dog named Winn-Dixie.Through Winn-Dixie she makes lots of friends, some of them were Ms. Franny Block, Gloria Dump, Stevie and Dunlap Dewberry, and Sweetie Pie Thomas. I think every 4th,5th,and 6th grade student should read this book. I hope you buy it and enjoy it as much as I did. Even my mom read this book and she loved it! HAPPY READING !!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Spectacular! Review: When I read this book I wanted to keep reading it and not put it down. I read this book for school and I thought it was great. I think Gloria Dump was a great friend to have, (even if she was a witch!) It was good that Opal found out about Amanda's little brother because then she could understand her since Opal lost her mom a while ago. All in all I gave this book a 5 because it was exciting and had a great moral.
Rating: Summary: Because of Winn-Dixie Review: I gave this book four stars becuase I liked it, but also thought it could have been better. The main characters are India Opal Buloni and Winn-Dixie. There are more characters in the book, but the story was mainly about those two. Her mother left her when she was three. Opal's life is miserable until she finds a dog and calls it Winn-Dixie. I thought that it could've been better. For example, I would've liked Opal to see her mother. This story is about friendship, and how your life can be turned around. Opal and Winn-Dixie have a very strong friendship. You can tell because in Becuase of Winn-Dixe they can't find Winn-Dixie, and Opal gets very upset and cries. Also, Winn-Dixie helps her make freinds like Ms. Franny and Gloria Dump.Thats why I gave this book four stars.

Rating: Summary: FRIENDSHIP Review: A dog with a fear of thunderstorms, but a gift for making friends enters the life of a child, and the enduring friendship between them is the basis of this heart-warming book.Reading it may prompt you to remember some wistful, special moments, adventures, or encounters in your own early life, when your parents sent you to the neighborhood store, and you returned home with something or someone not quite on their list. After completing this charming tale, if you're interested in more of the same, try reading "Angel Animals, Exploring Our Spiritual Connection with Animals," by Allen and Linda Anderson. Both books are enchanting.
Rating: Summary: a little jewel of a book Review: This book unfolds softly and consistently loving throughout. It takes place in the south (Florida) and tells of a young girl, her father "the preacher" and their life - making due after their wife/mother leaves the family. Winn-Dixie (a stray dog) joins daughter and father and leads them into adventures of self discovery and family bonding. I'm from the west and enjoyed hearing Cherry Jones' southern accent, slow pacing, and wonder as daily events take on signifance through a childs' eyes. It's a simple story with bigger issues brought to light: loss of loved ones, friendships, what it means to be part of a family and community. The eccentric characters and their relationship with Opal(the young girl) are fulfilling too. Nicely done and from the heart.
