Summary: Winn-Dixie
Review: It's all because of a dog named 'Winn Dixie' that Opal's life is changed forever, and I mean forever!
Opal moved from Waltey, Florida to Naomi, Florida in the summer time. It was very hard for Opal to make friends in her new town of Naomi. Opal didn't really call Naomi a city, but a small noisy town. She didn't want to move there, but Opal had to so her daddy the preacher could preach at the 'Open Arms Baptist Church'. Opal was the only kid who lived in the Friendly Corners trailer park. It was a trailer park for adults only, but since her daddy was the preacher and that she was a good, quiet kid, she could live there. The only noise around was Mrs. Detweller's little yappy dog-named Samuel.
In the book Winn-Dixie, written by Kate De Camillo, there are five important characters in addition to Opal. They are Opal's father the preacher, Otis her boss, Miss Franny Block the librarian, Gloria Dump her friend, and of course Winn-Dixie the dog. Otis plays the guitar for the animals at Gertrude's pet shop where he is the manager. He had been arrested for playing his guitar in the street and for hitting an officer with his guitar. Her father, the preacher is very sad that his wife left him and Opal, but he is glad that he and Opal are together. Miss Franny Block is the librarian at the W. Block Memorial Library in the town of Naomi. She loves to read books and tell stories to all who come to the library.
Gloria Dump is Opal's best friend. She has bad eyesight, and likes to hear stories told by Opal that she has learned at the library. Winn-Dixie, who is a loving and kind dog, is a bit strange because he smiles and sneezes a lot.
Gloria however changed Opal's outlook on life, by becoming a mother figure to her. She helped her plant a 'wait-and-see' tree, because you had to wait to see what kind of tree it would be. Opal always wanted things to happen all at once, and she wanted her mother to come back. Gloria taught her patience and to 'wait and see' what happens in life.
Opal also had an affect on her boss, Otis. At the pet shop, he was sad and lonely because he was a criminal and felt that the animals being locked up in cages made them sad and lonely like him. So he played songs for them to make them happy.
The book affected me even when I wasn't reading it. It made me feel happy that I have a loving and caring mother, and sad that Opal did not have a mother. I wanted to jump in the book and go find her and give her a hug. It was a great book that I could read again, it made me feel happy to know that Opal was okay at the end with help from her friends. The unanswered question I have is what ever happened to her mother, and why did she leave and never come back?
'Winn-Dixie' was about how life can be unfair and how Opal overcame struggles in her daily life, and how she met friends along the way to help her. And meeting a special a dog named 'Winn-Dixie', finding and caring for him made her feel happy and loved.

Summary: Reading rules!
Review: I liked "Because of Winn-Dixie" because I love dogs and Opal is a lot like me, except I wear glasses. My favorite part was when Winn-Dixie was "lost" but he was really under the bed. I also know how what Opal feels about her mom. I thought it was funny when Opal said to her father ' You're always pulling your head in your stupid turtle shell!" If you love funny stories and excitment, then "Because of Winn-Dixie" Is definetly for you.

Summary: Sounder
Review: Sounder tells a story of a dog named Sounder who belonged to an African American family of sharecroppers. The family was so poor that the father was forced to steal a ham in order for his family to survive. The father was put in jail. While trying to save his master, Sounder was shot by one of the sheriff's assistants. The family was now left without two important parts of their family all at once. Sounder and the father both returned home although they were beat up badly.

Summary: "The Giver" by Lois Lowry
Review: Lois Lowry wonderfully depicts a perfect society in "The Giver." The society contains no poverty, unemployment, or inequality. What is even more interesting is that everyone in the society is given an assignment at the age of twelve years old. These assignments include what that person will be in life, and are selected by the elders of the community. When twelve year old Jonas discovers his life assignment to be the receiver of memory, he is confused. Jonas is the only twelve year old with this special assignment, in which he can embrace memories from the past. Jonas soon realzes that he should not be the only one to be aware of these memories. However, in order for society to discover them, Jonas must leave the society and never return.
"The Giver" is a very exciting book. It keeps readers wanting to know what will happen next. It is interesting to read about how a perfect society could be if it existed. It challenges readers to think beyond the society in which they live in.

Summary: Beacuse of Winnie-dixie
Review: I like this book because it shows how somebody can make really good friends. My first reason is because the girl shows how good and polite she can be and make many new and good friends. My second reason is how the girl takes care of what she is capable of haveing like a pet that she had found near her house. My third reason is that the dog named winnie dixie shows what she really is and how much fun she can have because she found a nice home she can have.
The best parts of the book is where the girl finds the dog at the store called winnie dixie and she kept it because it didnt have a home and she wantes to save him.The dog is happy cause she now has a good home she can fit in.The other parts when the girl makes many older friends she can hang out with.also she doesnt have a mother like the rest of the other group does so her friends take care of her.
characters and the settings are the most vivid because the author shows how the characters act and how they have things in common the setting is the best because she shows how the places look and where the places takes place at.She tell every detail that takes place and she makes it stand out in the book.
