Rating: Summary: "Because of Winne-Dixie" Review: I am a fifth grade student at Waldron Mercy Academy (ELW). A 10-year-old girl named Opal and her daddy , the preacher, lived in a trailer park. Opal's parents had been divorced since Opal was a young girl. One day Opal's father told her to go to the Winn-Dixie Super Market for some food. When she got there she saw the security guards trying to get a dog out of the super market. The guards kept asking whose dog is this? Opal said that the dog was hers. The dog looked really old and dirty. Then the guards told Opal that she had to prove that the dog was hers. So she called the dog, "Come girl, Come boy," but he didn't come. Then she thought about it and she said, "Come Winn-Dixie," and the dirty dog came. That is how he got his name. Then she went home. When she got home she asked her dad if she could keep the dog and he said, "Yes." That Sunday they brought Winn-Dixie to church with them and there was great difficulties! Since Opal was ten she wanted to know ten things about her mom. So her dad told her ten things. I think this book was very exciting from beginning to end. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs or a 3-5 grader.
Rating: Summary: Because Of Winn-Dixie-Lunie Review: My book review is about Because Of Winn-Dixie. This book was published in 2000. The main characters in this book are Opal, the Preacher, and Winn-Dixie. Opal is a 10 year old girl who lived with her dad who she called the Preacher. Opal misses her mom because she ran away when Opal was little. One day the Preacher sent Opal out to the store for some dinner, and she came back with stray a dog. Opal takes the dog home and asks the Preacher if she can keep the him. The Preacher says that Opal can keep the dog; and she names him Winn-Dixie. One day Opal was going out to get Winn-Dixie a collar at a pet shop called Gertudes Pets. Opal finds a nice shiny collar, but she dosn't have enough money to pay for it. So she offered to work at Gertudes Pets for a week and earn some more money so that she can afford the nice shiny collar. This taught Opal how to be resposible. I really liked this book and I never wanted to finish it!!
