Summary: A Girl and her Dog
Review: It was India Opal Buloni first summer in her new town of Naomi, Florida. She had just moved there with her father who was a preacher. She was all alone until one day she had to run an erran for her father and she meet a dog who she named Winn-Dixie. This was her first friend in her new town of Naomi.

This was a unique dog. He did everything with Opal, Winn-Dixie would even go to church with her. This dog became her companion and where one was you find the other.

After meeting Winn-Dixie, she began to meet others in the town. The library was one of her favorite places and she became good friends with the librarian, others she meet included an ex-criminal and an old lady that other children thought was a witch.

Because of Winn-Dixie is a wonderful book of for children. It would be easy for many children to identify with Opal. The book has short chapters and is a great read!!!...

Summary: Winn-Dixie, A Real Winner
Review: A story of friendship, loneliness, and sadness. A sweet girl, named India Opal Buloni just moved to Naomi, Florida with her father, a southern baptist minister. She comes to town without a single friend or a mother when a dog, named Winn-Dixie enters her life.

Anyone who has ever had a dog they love will appreciate this story. He is smart, sits through church services, and takes on very human-like characteristics. Whenever he gets happy, he opens his mouth and shows an endearing smile.

With help from her new pet, India Opal makes many unique friends in her small, quiet town. She befriends a librarian who has candy that tastes like strawberries, rootbeer, and sorrow. She meets up with an ex-criminal who went to prison for playing his music in the street. She visits an old woman every day who all of the town kids think is a witch.

Although written for a younger audience, I would strongly recommend this book for anyone. This is a Newberry Honor book divided into many small chapters, each with an endearing story. Everyone is sure to enjoy Because of Winn-Dixie.

Summary: A Great Dog Tale!
Review: This is an excellent example of Realistic fiction for children. This book is not your typical "dog story." Kate Dicamillo takes the reader beyond the normal sad dog story. The reader gets into the life of Opal and begins cheering for her and her hopes and dreams. I believe this is one of the best books written for this age because the theme is universal, we all need to learn not to give up regardless of our age. The book is about a young girl who finds a dog and the trials that together they then go through.

I definitely like this book better than other dog stories such as Shiloh, Sounder and Old Yeller. They are well written books but Dicamillo takes the reader in a different direction with Because of Winn Dixie and I strongly recommend it.

Summary: In Love with Winn-Dixie
Review: I absolutely loved this book. I teach second grade children in Winchester, Kentucky and have always made it a practice to read aloud to my students every day. I have shared "Because of Winn-Dixie' with this year's class, as well as with last year's class. My students all enjoyed the story. They couldn't wait until after lunch each afternoon when I would gather them around my reading chair and spend anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes reading this book aloud. "Because of Winn-Dixie' is truly a piece of art in the way that the author weaves her subtle messages of life's challenges into an enchanting tale of a girl and her dog. I highly recommend this book to all children, young and old alike.

Summary: because of winn-dixie
Review: Because of Winn-Dixie is about a girl named Opal Bulloni who is 10 years old. A reverend who is Opal`s father, and Winn-Dixie (Opal`s unique lovable happy dog) are the main characters. The story takes place in Naiomi,Florida, in a small town. When the reverend sends Opal to Winn-Dixie (the supermarket not the dog)to get some vegetables, Opal finds a stray dirty dog running around in the produce section and all of the people working in Winn-Dixie were chasing after him. Then she took the dog home and named it Winn Dixie. My favorite character is Winn Dixie because he is funny and because he is a dog.

I couldn't relate to any of the characters in the story because Opal is younger than me and she has a pet, and I don't. I did, however, feel some feelings that Opal felt. But, if I told you, it would give away some things about the book.

The book was a great book. Every chapter was interesting. However, one chapter did catch my attention. It was the chapter when Opal met Winn Dixie. I enjoyed this book so much that I wouldn't change a thing about it.

This is definitely a book I would recommend to someone. This book is good for ages 11 and up. I hope you enjoy this book as I did.

Summary: Great Book! A real page-turner...
Review: I picked this book up when I was in the 4th grade, and I absolutely loved it! Since then, I've reccomended it to both adults and kids! I even went to Florida to go to a Winn-Dixie store and so I could see where the story was set. Even though I've re-read it about a million times, it's always a good read! Buy this book and believe me, you won't be dissapointed!

Review: Because of Winn-Dixie
This book is about a young girl named India Opal, whose mother had abandoned her when she was a young girl. Her father is a preacher, who takes a new job in Naomi, Florida. Opal has a challenging time making friends in her new town, until she stumbles across a homeless dog while on a trip to the grocery store. Opal forms an immediate connection with the dog, and names it Winn-Dixie. Opal cherishes the friendship she has with her dog, because she has no other friends in town. Opal slowly begins to make new friends with people in town. She meets Miss Fanny Block the librarian, Gloria Dump a blind elderly women, and Otis the pet store manager. Opal develops a unique friendship with each of these people. Opal learns a lot from all of her new friends, learning many valuable lessons.
This story would be appealing to many different readers. Readers who love dogs or any pets would adore this book. Using this book in an elementary classroom in any approach would surely have all of the children interested. Kate DiCamillo brings this story to life, by telling this story through the authentic mind of a child. The story is told with such emotion, and vivid details, that you feel as though you yourself are a part of the story. The life lessons that are a part of this book are those in which many children have gone through. Because of Winn-Dixie teaches the reader just how important friends are, and that you cannot hold on to things that you do not have.
