Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review: Jeffery Magee is an eleven year old boy, who has no real family. His parents died in a trolley crash when he was only three! He was then sent to live with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan, who were strict Catholic's. Although they wanted to get a divorce, they never did because it was against their religion. Finally, after eight years, Maniac was sick and tired of them fighting, and ran away. Maniac ran to Two Mills, a small city, split into two towns, the East End and the West End. The East End was the blacks and the the West End was the whites. In Two Mills Maniac has some awkward adventures! I thought Jerry Spinelli really made readers not want to put the book down. This book teaches people that there is no difference between blacks and whites, except the actual color. This book teaches me to be brave and to stand up for what is right. Jerry Spinelli connects clues throughout the the book, which really makes people want to read his books. If you are ten to thirteen years old and are looking for a fun, easy reading book, Maniac Magee is definitely perfect for you!
Rating: Summary: The book of the Century Review: Maniac Magee is a phenomenol book about an orphaned boys journey through two ends of a town , one end black, one end white, who can't look past racial differences that have been going on for years. There are many lessons learned in this book but one that stands out in my mind is the classic saying "don't judge a book by it's cover". No matter what color someone is,whether they're black, white, blue, purple or green, you have no right to say your better than him or anybody else.Jerry Spinelli has a way of twisting words that makes you think. He says things without really "saying it".My opinion of this book this book is as high as Mt. Everest.Out of 10 this book is a 45. I recomend this book to all ages because teachs a lesson that is so important in today's world.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review Review: Maniac Magee was an outstanding book. It was one of the best books i have ever read. Maniac Magee's real name is Jeffery Lionel Magee. He is an 11 year old whose parents died on a trestle. So he had to go live with his aunt and uncle. He ran away from his aunt and uncles house because they were not getting along. On his journey running he ran to a place called The Two Mills and he met a couple of kids. The first kid was Amanda. Maniac told Amanda about his parents and Amanda Beale invited Maniac to live with them. Maniac was so happy that he had an address now. You are probably wondering where he was sleeping before the Beale's let him live with them. Well i am not going to tell you, you are going to have to see for yourself. The author that wrote this book is trying to teach us a lesson, to be friends with everyone no matter what color you are. This author is an amazing writer, in his books there is a lot of humor, and at the same time there is a lot of sadness. I would recommend this book to 10 year olds to 13 year olds because i am 11 and it really kept my attention. My opinion of this book is that it was a marvelous book. One of my favorite parts was when he tired to get that enormous knot out of the rope.
Rating: Summary: WOW!! Review: Maniac Magee is a phenomenal book where Jerry Spinelli is at his best. This book is about an eleven year old boy who runs away from his aunt and unlce because they are always fighting and tries to make it on his own. He finds out that this town judges people by color and not by personality. Along the way maniac faces death, racial tension and many other challenges he must try to overcome. This book shows that color doesn't matter if you are true friends.I think this book was written extremely well and I would definetly consider reading it a few more times. I would recommend this book to adolescence because they would probably understand the racism issue better then younger kids.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review: Maniac Magee is a fantastic book that is good for kid ages 10-13 years old. The book takes place in the east end and the west end of two mills. Maniac ended up in Two Mills because of his aunt Dot and uncle Dan. He lived with his aunt and uncle because hi parents died when he was 3 in the famous P&W disaster. He left his aunt and uncle because they wouldn't talk with one another or share things with each other. They would have gotten a divorce but they were catholic. When maniac left Amanda Beale's parents took him in because he didn't have a home. Many more things will happen to maniac. But what?
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review: I rate Maniac Magee five stars. Maniac Magee is about a boy named Jeffery Magee and is called Maniac Magee. His parents had died in a tressel. After this tragic event Maniac had lived by himself not in a home but in different places. In the area that he supposedly lives in is divided into two parts the west end and the east end. The west is where the white live and the east is where the blacks live. The whites and blacks do not get along very well. that is why they are seperated into two parts. He met a girl named Amanda. Amanda always carries books. Will Maniac ever find a home? Will Maniac and Amanda become friends? This book has taught me that tha people dont always look at the color of skin that you have or the way you are built. This has shown me that just because you have a different color skin or you have a different body dosent mean you cant be friends with them. You can still be friends with someone no matter what they look like. You should always look inside a person and not care what they look like because the way the look isnt always the way the heart acts.
Rating: Summary: 5 Star Maniac Magee Review Review: Maniac Magee is a really fun, sad, and prejudice book. Jerry Spinelli has a great talent for writing. It seems like her writes for 6th and 7th graders beacause that age would understand how he writes, and about prejudice, and his humor. Jeffery Magee, also known as Maniac Magee runs away from his aunt and uncles house becuase they fight all the time. He goes to a town that is seperated by the blacks and whites. West end= whites east end= blacks. The majority of people are prejudice, adnt ehy stay on their side most of the time. But it all changed when Jeffery came along. Jeffery meets a black girl named Amanda. She lends a book to him and then later they meet up later on. She invited him to live with him, and he takes the genorius offer. Someone wrote "Fishbelly" on the Beals house, and Jeffery dicided to run away. He comes to a zoo, he starts to live in the buffalo cages. He meets this older man named Grayson. They have a really fun time, and Grayson askes him to help decorate his apartment for Christmas. Of course Jeffery took the offer. But a few days later, Jeffery has to go because of a emotional moment. After that he goes and meets these two little boys running away tryingt o get to Mexico. Their brother comes along... older one... it so happens that Jeffery met him during a little baseball match. The little boys invited Jeffery to live with them as long as he wants. Man, Maniac don't know what he is in for. He gets there and the house is a reck! There is a huge whole in the family room. The only beverage in the fridge was beer. Then a little later his dad comes home with a lot of Big Mac's. Geeze what kind of people are they? Maniac probably wonders. Later on Maniac leaves and meets up with Amanda... what happens next? I thouhgt that this was a really good book. I would recommend this to a fun person, and a person who enjoys a little sadness. It teaches me to accept people for who they are, because if you don't something could happen to you times ahead. Maniac Magee also taught me to respect people, and to see someone on hte inside, not the outside.
Rating: Summary: student Review: Jeffery Magee is a boy that dosen't belong anywhere, he has no home and dosen't go to school. He lives in a town called two mills that is separated by east end and west end; blacks on one side and whites on the other. Then Jeffery meets Amanda Beale who is black but segregation splits them apart. So Jeffery leaves to go with his own kind but will the Beale's hunt him down and give him a home. The moral of the story is that everybody deserves a home and a family who loves them. I find this book a touching comedy that makes you want to turn the pages. I would recommend this book to anyone but more towards the ages of eleven through thirteen years old.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee Review: Maniac Magee is a homeless boy who feels unwanted in the homes he gets excepted into. Will he ever feel wanted? Jerri Spenelli created a wonderful story filled with love, saddness, being scared, hatred, anger and lots more. I thought this was a pnenomenal story i reccomend this to the fith and sixth grade level.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee By Jerry Spinelli Review: Maniac Magee, an award-winning book was written by Jerry Spinelli. It is a book about a boy named Jeffrey who was a normal kid until his parents died. A black family called the Beales took him in. He learns about racism while living with the Beales. A month later he ran away ate dinner with a white family, called the Pickwells , and thought how similar the Pickwells are to the Beales. He thought it was sad because the Pickwells and the Beales would have been good friends if not for racism. This is one of the most wonderful fictional books of all times! My favorite part is when Maniac learns a lesson which is there is racism for no reason. I thought this book would have been even better if there was pictures so I could understand the book even more. I recommend this book to kids ages 8-15. The other great books Jerry Spinelli wrote are Space Station 7th Grade, Who Put the Hair in My Toothbrush? And many many more!
