Review: "Where the Red Fern Grows" is a very emotional book. When I read this in 6th grade, our class focused a lot on the type of writing that Wilson Rawls used, similies and metaphors. I also love animals, so this was the book for me! I would recommend this book to anyone!

Review: We are three boys from Westport Connecticut. We have read the book Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. This is an excellent book because it is full of emotion. It is a sad love story about a boy named Billy and his two coon hounds, Little Ann and Old Dan. Billy sees an ad in a magazine for coon hounds. He works hard to earn enough money to buy two of them. Billy teaches them to hunt coons and they become best friends. We really liked the story because of all the adventures the three go on throughout the book. It is full of excitement. If you like a good adventure, this book is for you!

Summary: A good (but not great) novel
Review: My father's family is from Tahlequah, Oklahoma (the town where Billy picked up Old Dan and Little Ann) and after spending some of my boyhood in the Ozarks and seeing the movie when it came out in the 70's, I picked up this book expecting to read a story that would evoke strong nostalgic memories for me. It was nostalgic to some extent, but I was a little disappointed. Billy seemed like an overly sensitive kid who cried a lot, and he showed no compunction in cutting down beautiful trees so he could kill a trapped animal, although he could also be resourceful and courageous at times. I also thought the story was a little slow in developing. It was sad for Billy to see his two dogs die after fighting with the mountain lion, but the dogs were the ones who initiated the contact, ultimately receiving the same treatment they had been harshly dealing out to raccoons for quite some time, so I felt no pity for them. The most appealing portions of Rawls' tale include a fine introduction, Billy's determination to earn enough money to buy the dogs, and the interactions with his beloved grandfather. Overall, it was a good novel, but not the best I've read.

Review: This book was really written well. The ending was unpredictable and I like that about all the books I read. I would rate this book a ten(10) because it's one of the best I've read(next to Little Women).

Review: I just finished teaching this story to my fourth graders in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The children loved it relating to their state, and they loved the story. As I finished reading the ending, many of them were crying. They also agree that this has been the best book they have read all year.

Review: If you enjoyed Old Yeller, you will love Where The Red Fern Grows. Never was there a book more focused on the life and viewpoints of a child. It possesses the elements that are needed to make a great children's book that children love.

Review: This book was a heart-warming story about Billy and his two dogs, Old Dan and Little Ann. The best part was when Billy found the red fern were Ann and Dan were buried. The native indian legend said that where ever the red fern grew, the dead buried beneath it was a blessing from God, for the fern was so beautiful and no one could grow it themselves. I started crying! The book Where The Red Fern Grows was one of the BEST I've EVER read!
