Review: I wanted to get into reading so I got the book Where The Red Fern Grows. I know your not suppose to jugde a book by its cover or title but just the sound of it was good. It was good from the very start and it kept getting better. It was so good I read it in one day and it's a long book. The book is about a young boy who has two coon dogs. It is exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat as the boy tried to kill his coon. With great events to his ultimate goal. My favorite thing about the book is when and how he got his dogs. The ending was great the book keeps you wanting to read it and in the end the book realy comes together.

Review: When I first started to read this book I didn't think it was going to be as good as it was. It was great. It is about a boy and his two little hounds. My favorite part was when Billy went to the racoon hunt with his two dogs. I liked the ending alot. I didn't expect it but it had the perfect ending.

Review:

This book is a story of a boy and his two dogs. Bill Colman, a man who lived in the mountain as a boy, tells the story in a first person perspective. He tells the story of his dogs, and the legendary "Red Fern". The story is made of "memories of a wonderful love, unselfish devotion, and death in its saddest form"(Rawls, 5). The author had many examples of such love and devotion in the book, as well as many adventures to go along with them.

In the beginning of the book, Bill saves the life of a coonhound and helps with his wounds. After the hound leaves, he remembers his "boyhood days... and two little red coonhounds." He noticed, "Two beautiful cups gleamed from the mantel. One was large... with a golden sheen... The other was smaller and made of silver."(Rawls, 5-6) Holding them, he recalls the story that those cups held. This made me remember some of my good memories and happy times. I was able to tell that Bill had some very fond memories of hounds. This passage also got my attention and got me to read the book.

The passages "I had to have some dogs. I went to my father and had a talk with him. He scratched his head and thought it over. 'I want hounds-coon hounds-and I want two of them'... He said...'Maybe some day when we can afford it, you can have them, but not right now.' I didn't give up. After my talk with Papa, I went to Mama. I fared no better there."(Rawls, 7-8) show a few things. The first thing that this passage told me is that Billy is very determined to get dogs. He is also very specific about the amount and type of dogs he wants: two coonhounds. He showed a lot of devotion to his love for his dogs. I was surprised that one could be so devoted to something that is such a hard goal. Billy eventually finds a sporting magazine and sees an advertisement for coonhounds, $25 dollars each. When he finally earns $50, he takes it to his Grandpa. " 'How long have you been saving this?' he asked... I told him, 'Two years.'" This supports the idea that Billy is very devoted to get his coonhounds.

When Billy first sees his dogs, this was what he perceived "One pup started my way. I held my breath. On he came until I felt a scratchy little foot on mine. The other pup followed. A warm puppy tongue caressed my sore foot. I heard the stationmaster say, 'They already know you.'"(Rawls, 37) It seems to me that the dogs don't just know him already know him, but love him from then. Old Dan, Billy's male dog, "loved everyone"(Rawls, 102), but he especially loved Billy and Little Ann and "he would not hunt with another hound, other than Little Ann, or another hunter."(Rawls, 102) Old Dan and Little Ann were like one, they did everything together and they both loved Billy very much.

This is one of the best books that I read. I had varying reactions to the things I read in this book. This book is about a dog lover, and is written by one. The story is a reflection of the author's boyhood. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs. This book is also a great novel for anyone from the ages 9 and up.

Review: Dear Mr. Rawls, I have just finished reading Where the Red Fern Grows. This novel is very remarkable. I enjoyed reading this line to line, page to page. It was like once I picked up the book, I just couldn't let go. I had to know what was up ahead for little Billy. You should me true companionship, even though, it was between a boy and his dogs. I could just imagine myself being Billy and going through the whole scenario by myself. Little Billy showed persistence to his dogs, and vice versa. It was like if he doesn't give up his dogs won't and his dogs don't give up if he doesn't, which is a really special bond once you start thinking about it. They also don't let each other down, no matter how hard the obstacle is. " With tears in my eyes, I looked again at the big sycamore. A wave of anger came over me. Gritting my teeth, I said, "I don't care how big you are, I'm not going to let my dogs down. I told them if they put a coon in a tree I would go the rest and I'm going to. I'm going to cut you down. I don't care if it takes me a whole year." This passage right here moved my heart so much. If this happened to me I would most likely give up telling my dogs that there's always another time. But, Billy didn't give up on his dogs he didn't let them down. Especially seeing it as it was hard to get the coon up in the tree the first place. The friendship is not only shown between the owner and his dogs, but also you can see that special bonding between the two dogs, Little Ann (who has the brains) and Old Dan (who had the brawns). "Old Dan, seeing the fate of his little friend, had quit the chase and come back to help her." Now this passage I can relate to. I would stop anything to save my friends life, if they meant that much to me. It's really beautiful how you captured the significance of this friendship. However, showing the friendships and happiness well, you also made a tragedy come to life. " With a small pain and rage, the big cat rolled over on his side, dragging Little Ann with him. His right paw reached out and curved over her shoulder. Sinews tightened and razor-sharp claws dug inward. With a cry of pain, she loosened her hold. I saw the blood squirting from the deep wound in her shoulder. She ignored it and bored back into the fight." Here, I could just depict myself being they're watching the brawl myself. Seeing Ann so eager to beat this lion and the cut she got from fighting him. You capture the significance of each scene, because I could just imagine myself in each one (and me being able to do that is really rare). It was really something powerful and meaningful to have read this book. It showed me true friendships, companionship, and even sadness. It was a beautiful book, and I would read it again and again.

Review: Billy really wants hunting dogs, but his parents won't let him. During the year he saves up money. Then his grandpa orders them for him. He can't wait to get them so he runs away in the middle of the night. Billy gets his 2 dogs and names them Little Ann And Old Dan. the rest of the book is spent hunting with his dogs. The book is good,but also sad.

Review: Where the Red Fern Grows is written by Wilson Rawls. This novel starts with a young boy named Billy, whose dream is to have coon-hunting dogs. However, Billy's family isn't very wealthy, so even though his parents want to buy him a dog, they can't, considering their financial problems. Seeing as Billy isn't the one to give up very easily, he works long hard hours and works for whomever he can, to save up money. He saves every penny he gets for two very long years. At the end of the summer, he has enough money to buy the dogs. He names his dogs Old Dan (who has the brawn) and Little Ann (who has the brains). He trains them to be the best coon-hunting dogs. After many setbacks, Billy still doesn't give up because he believes in his dogs. He trains them and trains them until they can be the best. Finally they get their big break. They win a Gold Cup in the coon-hunting championships. As soon as happiness has approached them, dark clouds form over Billy's life. A tragedy has happened.

This book is very touching and also brought tears to my eyes. It seems as if you can depict yourself going through everything that little Billy went through. All his hardships and happiness are shared with the reader throughout the novel. Billy has a heart thats pure and innocent. He keeps on going, even through the struggles and hardships that occur in his life. You just sit and wonder what he and his dogs are going to do next. Also towards the end you wonder why the author created such a tragedy to a young boy. This story is well written and has no weeknesses. I suggest that everyone gets a chance to read this novel, young or old.

Summary: Don`t let the title fool you
Review: At first the book started off a little slow. Once I got to the part where the boy started wanting the dogs it started to get interesting. The story is about a boy who is aching to have some good hunting dogs. His parents say no but he works for 2 years, picking berries, and helping out in his grandfather`s store. Once the boy finally got the dogs they go on some amazing adventures together. My favorite part was when Old Dan and Little Anne saved Billy from the Mt. lion.

Review: I liked this book from the very first page. Its about how Billy has to work all summer to get enough money to buy 2 hunting dogs. he trains them then hunts with them. Then one day he takes his dogs to a tournament. Personally my favorite part was when Billy tries to save his dogs from the ice cold river. The ending is really good but, I dont want to give anything away. GO AND READ THIS BOOK.

Review: Alan Eden Book Review "Where the Red Fern Grows" By reading this book I have established that it is my favorite. I am an avid coon hunter and I have a dog named Old Dan (after the book of coarse) My grandfather loves this book and he named his coon dog Dan. His dog is long sense gone but the name lives on in my dog. Billy, the main character in the book, is a young boy who lives in the Ozark mountains of Missiouri. I myself envy this young boy because he and I are kind of alike. I mean I have it alot better than he did, but I live for hunting and being in the wilderness to me there is nothing better. The story is about a simple family who live in the Ozark Mountains of Missiouri. Billy, his father, mother, and two sisters. Billy and his family don't even have enough money for clothes let alone two coon hounds. When Billy becomes almost ill because he wants the dogs so much, he devises a plan. By selling worms to fisherman and little things like that. After two long years of hard work Billy finally makes the money to purchase his hounds. And thats where the excitment begins.

Review: Where The Red Fern Grows, is a book by Wilson Rawls. This book is full of adventure and the love a boy has for his dogs. This book shows how a boy wants one thing in the world and that is two hunting dogs. The main character is Billy. His family lives in the hills and is surrounded by timber. All Billy wants to do is coon hunt, but it is kind of hard with no dogs. His family is not blessed with much money, so therefore can not afford them. For two years Billy decides to work hard and save enough money to buy them himself. To me this shows that if you put your mind to something and work hard at it you will achieve your goals. When Billy receives the dogs he works hard at training them. He spends lots of time with them, so he can make them the best hunting dogs around. He becomes so close to the dogs that he becomes able to know what they want. The dogs can also read him and understand what he is saying to them. This book is full of adventure. Billy and his two dogs go out on a lot of hunting trips. Many which become life and death situations. An example would be when they tree a mountain lion instead of a coon. The dogs did not care about the size of the animal because they did not want to let Billy down by letting it get away. The dogs protected Billy, and fought the lion to the death. This book will hook you before the first chapter is over. It will make you want to sit down and read. And by the end of the book it will make you feel like you are right there beside him. So, if you are looking for a good fast reading book to read, I recommend this book. This book is for all ages. It is easy reading and quick reading.
