Rating: Summary: A terrific story of a young boy and his hounds... Review: "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls is a truely magnificent story, one that I read when I was very young, and I still tear up when I think about it.THis compelling story about a young boy and his two coonhound pups takes place in the Ozarks during the early to mid-1900s. Billy was a young litlte boy like most other boys in that area at the time-adventurous, brave, and, of course, he wanted a dog, specifically, a hound, so he could hunt for racoons like the other boys. Unfortunately, his famnily was tight on cash, and they couldn't afford dogs, not to mention food and other necessities the dog may need. Billy decides he'll pay for the hounds himself, and he saves up to purchase coonhounds in a city 20 mile sup the river. It takes him two years, but finally he has enough money to buy the dogs. He gets two, a male a and a female. Fromt he start, he trains the dogs, simple things like sitting and staying, to more complex things like trapping a racoon up a tree. Billy definetly loves these two dogs. This is a wonderful story, and the ending will truly out tears to your eyes. I reccomend this book to anyone who ever had a dog before, or someone who has dog right now. I promise you will love this book!
Rating: Summary: Review Review: Where the Red Firn Grows was a very good book to read. There were many things that I liked and not many things that I disliked.I liked the way that the auther kept wanting me to read more. Hem always kept things exiting. What I did not like about this perticular book was an introduction that had almost nothing to do with the book. I learned from this book that if you really want something, if you put your mid to it, you can make it happen.
Rating: Summary: Where the Red Fern Grows Review: Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls is one of the best books I have ever read. On a scale from one to five I would rate it a five. Where the Red Fern Grows is full of details and descriptive writing. This book is also is a full length adventure. The age group I would recommend this book to are 11-13 year olds. I believe that this book has some parts younger kids should not read. It is also a tear jerker, I suggest a tissue box!
Rating: Summary: A book that explains the joys and sorrows of one little boy Review: I thought that the book was the best book I have ever read, no joke. THe book captures the essence of childhood and of how a little boy grows up through his experiences down in the ozarks. A quote from the book i really liked was "There is a time in every mans life when he is effected by the wonderful disease of puppy love" pg 17. THis book was unlike any of other books i had read beause i could fel the boys feelings and i had empathy. I coulod capture how much that boy cared for the dog. THis book is good for everyone over the 4th grade to read. If you read it any younger i dont think you could fully appriciate the story.

Rating: Summary: A good book that will keep you on the edge of your chair.... Review: " Where the Red Fern Grows" is written very powerfully and maybe a little too detailed at the ending for me. I remember my 4th grade teacher would have to go out in the hall when she would read the ending to her class, because it was so heartshattering. But there are good times with Billy Coleman and his two dogs Little Ann- small but smart, she can track any coon in the Ozarks; and don't forget Old Dan- big and tough he may be, he doesn't let go of those coons. Okay, let me give you a brief tour on the book. Billy Coleman lives in the Ozarks with his three sisters, mom and dad. He has had puppy fever for quite a while, so he saves up money to buy two hounds with the help of his faithful grandpa. He trains those dogs, making them the best in the valley. They get so experienced with their hunting skills, grandpa enters Billy and his dogs in a coon tournament. Does he win? Sorry, you'll have to find out for yourself and read the ending. Billy and his two dogs will surely find a way into your heart.
