Rating: Summary: Completely Amazing Review: "Where the Red Fern Grows", a book of pleasure, delight, sadness, and love. The young boy, Billy, longed for some hunting dogs. He was poor so he would have to earn the money for himself. He finally saved enough money to buy the dogs and he walked a long way from the country to the city side, barefoot. He would go through anything to get those dogs. He got the dogs and he named them Dan and Ann. By their personalities the names Old Dan and Little Ann were established. Billy had the dogs training to hunt from when they were able to run on their own. When he thought they were ready, he had then hunt coons. At first the task was difficult for both the dogs and Billy but it was something they were born to do so they had to do it. They got to the point were they couldn't be stopped so they entered a coon hunting contest. This was a prestigous task where they were hurt and other things but they didn't give up and Billy won the trophy. Dan got into a fight with a mountain lion while they were hunting and the lion tore his flesh so bad that he died. After that Little Ann didn't want to continue because Dan was apart of her. During her time of depression she didn't eat or move so she became sick and died as well. Billy and his family were moving to the city but Billy didn't want to go because his dogs were buried side by side on their land. The day they were leaving the family saw red ferns on the graves of the dogs. This book is one of the greatest books I've read. This is all my favorite. I would have to say, it is the first book that I actually cried while reading. Then I had to see the movie and I cried then as well. Rawls' description of the dogs and Billy throught the whole book just brings everything to life as I am sitting the front row of the movie theater watching the movie. Rawls also uses great settings as I could see this really happening. I would recommend everyone to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Where the Red Fern Grows Review: This story is about when Billy wants two hounds and raises $50 and then buys them. After that he uses his hounds to hunt for coons. But then his grandpa tells him that there is a coon-hunting tournament and Billy enters it. He won a silver cup and a golden cup. After that they still go coon-hunting but a mountain lion attacked them and the hounds got wounded even though they killed it afterwards. The hounds died a few days later. But then Billy's parents say that they have enough money to live in town and they go there. I liked this book a lot except for when the hounds die. Everybody should read this book!

Rating: Summary: Old Dan and Little Ann Review: I thought that it was kind of violent because there was blood and stuff. I also thought it was touching when the dogs died and how they died was just awful. It was really exciting like when they whent out to hunt and always got in trouble. I also loved the characters and thier personalities. I enjoyed the coon tornament because Billy won both of the contests the Beauty contest and the tornament. I loved how thoughtful Billy was to his family and everyone else. That was so generous of him and one day he would be a great husband and dad. I really liked this book and I hope I get to buy it and read it again!
