Rating: Summary: My review of Where the Red Fern Grows Review: The book Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls is a great book for all ages. Most kids can relate to Billy being a pet or dog lover! We also understand how bad Billy wanted those dogs. Billy and his family are just like an average American family. They are very close and love each other very much! This book definitely shows how talented Wilson Rawls is. With his wonderful imagery, Rawls paints pictures in everyones mind. It was just like I was a part of the book! I am glad I read this book not only because it was great, but it also taught me some valuable lessons, like to never ever give up even when times get hard. This book could definitely be a true story about a young boy and his family. The book teaches us how to deal with everyday problems and very tough problems as well. 3rd. HLB
Rating: Summary: A Heart Felt Dog Lovers Book! Review: Where the Red Fern Grows is by far the best ever dog book I have read. This book was so touching in so many ways. It starts off with a boys dream. Billy has this long dream of getting him a pair of red bone coon hounds but the thing is his father can't afford any. So what Billy does is that he works for a year. Traping animals and selling their fur and doing labor work because his disaire for his two dogs is so strong. Finally in a years time he orders his two coon hounds and names them Old Dan and Little Ann. Together the future leads these three friends on a journey of trust, friendship, betrayal and heartbreak. This book is a very emotional book but it is also a heart touching one. I recommend this book for all. No matter what kind of book you preffer i guarentee that you'll LOVE this book!!
Rating: Summary: Where the Red Fern Grows Review: Where the Red Fern Grows By Wilson Rawls September 19, 2002 This summer I read a really great book. I read the book called Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. This story takes place on a farm. The main character is Billy. He has two parents and a few sisters. Billy is kind-hearted and is very good at coon hunting. Billy wanted dogs really bad so he worked for 1 ½ years until he had enough money to get them. He finally got his dogs and started to teach them coon-hunting skills with the help of his sisters. When they were ready to go coon hunting, he took them mostly every night. The author's purpose for writing this book was to show that if you want something really bad, you have to work for it. Another purpose the author had for writing this book is that he set the setting of the book on where he used to live. I think Wilson Rawls wanted reader to think about what kind of life was back then when he lived. Billy loved to coon hunt with his dogs every night. One-day Billy's grandfather told him that he entered Billy in a coon-hunting race. Billy was very excited. It took a long time to get to where the contest was being held, but they made it. Billy did really well. In the end Billy and his dogs won the coon-hunting race and took home a trophy and some cash. This event was important because it showed not to give up and that Billy and his dogs were the best coon-hunters around. Billy was one of my favorite characters because he was always brave no matter what happened. He loved his dogs with all his heart and continued to help them learn. I liked this book because it was exciting to read. When you read one part of the book it makes you want to read more. Another reason I like this book is because it is really sad, and it makes you want to cry. In the beginning of the book, there are comparisons of now and then. The kind of reader that would like this book would need to like dogs and hear a story of a boy's life. This book is really important to read because it shows part of life and it meanings.
Rating: Summary: A Great Motivating Book! Review: This book, Where the Red Fern Grows, is about a 10 year old boy who wants two hunting hounds. He wants them so bad that he decided to raise the money to buy them himself. He wants them enough that he walks by foot to reach them in the city. Then the training began. Soon, Old Dan and Little Ann are two of the best hunting dogs in the Ozarks. Old Dan and Little Ann go through a lot together and are always there for each other throughout the book. From the Championship coon hunt to fighting a Mountian Lion they were always there to heal each other. From this book I have learned to be thankful for what I have and to perservere in whatever I do. In this book Billy and his dogs never give up even when it may have come down to death. They were always ready to win. If you are looking for a good read and to learn a little from it I highly recommend Where the Red Fern Grows. I definately have learned a lot from this book. 3rd EN
Rating: Summary: I'll hunt with this book anytime Review: I read this book in 6th grade and after I bought it at a book store. I will never ever lose it, I defently reccomend it to any reader out there. The book keeps getting you to read it on and on, you just cant put it down until the very end.
Rating: Summary: Where the Red Fern Grows Review: I thought it was a pretty good book. It was a story of friendship and companionship, with a comprehensible moral. Billy wanted two hunting dogs, but his parents couldn't afford to buy them. So he decided on his own to save up enough money to buy his dogs. With his dogs, he catches lots of coons and even wins competitions, receiving trophies and money. With this money, they can move to town, but not with the dogs. By fate, both dogs die, and a red fern grows above their graves: a sign of sacredness. This book shows you can do anything.
Rating: Summary: Still with me Review: I had to read this book in 5th or 6th grade. The passion the protagonist had for dogs and 'cooning has stuck with me. Twenty years later and I still find myself thinking of the book.
Rating: Summary: Where the Red Fern Grows book review Review: Where the Red Fern Grows is a book about a young boy who sees an ad for some hounds dogs. He starts saving up money. When he finally has enough to buy them he sends in the money and the dogs come. He loves to coon hunt with the dogs, so his grandfather tells him he should enter the coon hunt race. Although there was tough competition Billy and his dogs won the coon hunt race and took home a trophy and some cash. I liked this book because it was interesting the whole way through and once you start reading it you cant stop. It keeps getting more and more interesting! It has a sad but good ending to it that's makes it one of my favorite books.
Rating: Summary: A Tearjerker to Love Review: This is one of those books every child should read, especially those that love dogs. It follows the story of a young boy, Jesses, who wants to be a coon hunter more than anything. He works hard and saves his money for a pair of coonhounds, Little Ann and Old Dan. With his faithful dogs at his side, Jesse finds a lot of adventure and a lot of coons up in the hills around his rural home. In good conscience, I cannot go into any more detail but I defy anyone to put this book down unchanged. I recently reread the book for the first time in ten years and was as moved and brokenhearted as I was when I first read it. This is one of those books that will remain on my bookshelf no matter how old I get.
