Summary: Excelente !!! Very Insightful and Practical.
Review: It is direct book, straight to the point. It has much less neurocinetic theory and much more day-to-day concepts. Even if you haven't finished Daniel Goleman privious books, try this one !!!

Summary: Doesn't get much better...
Review: It is easy to lose sight of what it takes to be a great leader. There is no doubt that being a Manager can be a continual struggle. This book challenges you to become the leader that everyone wants to work for. I would describe it as, you can't afford to lose your cool but you can afford to be human. This is probably the best book on Leadership I have ever read. If you are a manager GET THIS BOOK!

Summary: Some good stuff, Some not so good stuff
Review: On the plus side, this book does highlight an important aspect of leadership that is often neglected - the emotional element. The book identifies six basic styles of leadership and suggests how and when each of those styles may be used effectively. This is good and useful information.

On the negative side, the authors are so disconnected with reality that it is often difficult to take them seriously. They honestly seem to think that emotional intelligence (EI) is the only important aspect to business and that personality, ambitions, abilities (other than EI abilities), and strategy are irrelevant. They never acknowledge that some people don't belong in certain roles or businesses and need to be removed, ideally with "EI", and countless other aspects of the real world that should have been addressed. The authors really should have ventured out of their ivory tower and into the real world before completing this book.

While it doesn't have the emotional component, I'd recommend The Essence of Leadership by Edwin Locke to cover the other aspects of leadership that are neglected by this book.

Summary: Great book about leadership, but on the dense side
Review: Primal Leadership is a great book about leadership, especially since it give credence to the "emotional priming" that happens with public figures. Too often, leaders forget about the impact they have on their people.

My only complaint with the book is its length. I do a lot of leadership development work and find my clients have difficulty deriving a "take home" from the book and many won't take the time to read it because of its size. A friend just introduced me to a new EQ book, "The Emotional Intelligence Quickbook" by Bradberry and Greaves. It's short, covers the needed information, and comes with a free online copy of The Emotional Intelligence Appraisal. I recommend you try that if you've run into the same difficulty.

Summary: Cuts Right to the Heart
Review: Primal Leadership is a well-written book that makes an excellent case for its premise that emotional intelligence is as critical, if not more so, to the success of a leader and the organization. The more a leader can relate to his employees and clients, the better the organization can perform. The importance of this emotional connection is also emphasized in Michael Levine's Guerilla PR: Wired.

Summary: Primal Leadership is a good read
Review: Primal Leadership is an excellent book for anyone in a leadership role. I also recommend Guerilla PR: Wired by Levine and Develping the Leader in You by Maxwell.

Summary: Insight to an art...
Review: Primal Leadership takes what many think of as 'common sense' and presents it in a manner that brings real insight to the art of leadership. This is a great read for individuals looking to improve themselves. Leadership is not only important in the business world, but life in general. The book is a bit repetitious; however, it ensures complete understanding.

Enjoy!

Summary: Leading Intelligently
Review: Primal Leadership,Realizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence, is one of the more innovative studies of leadership. This book shows how using the power of emotional intelligence, creates leaders who inspire those they lead to reach their maximum potential. The book is very readable--both in clear, concise writing style and in the selections of examples from contemporary leadership. The book is current enough to include references to September 11th, and the leadership examples of today that impact our lives in the future. The explanation of using emotional intelligence to lead is very clear and set up up specific order. It is made clear, by the authors, that every individual can be a leader--they are born with the tools of leadership and by actively employing those tools they can excel and inspire others to excellence. Whether you are reading this book for yourself, for your business, school or sports team--you will find methods of positive self-development in addition to methods of developing those around you. You may purchase this book simply as a learning tool, but you will find that it is a pleasure to read. I'm looking forward to the next book from these authors!

Summary: A ground-breaking new model of leadership
Review: Primal Leadership: Learning To Lead With Emotional Intelligence is the collaborative effort of Daniel Goldeman (Co-Director of the Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations, Graduate School of Professional Psychology, Rutgers University), Richard Boyatzis (Professor of Organizational Behavior and Chair of the Department of Organizational Behavior, the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University), and Annie McKee (Faculty Member, School of Education, University of Pennsylvania). Primal Leader-ship is a seminal presentation and explanation of the inextricable link between emotional intelligence, leadership, and organizational success. Contemporary readers are offered a ground-breaking new model of leadership based upon how the emotional brain operates and brings a science-orientation to understanding the emotional factors in successful leadership. Primal Leadership is enthusiastically commended reading -- especially for psychology students and leadership/management personnel.

Summary: A Must-Read for All Aspiring Leaders
Review: Primal Leadership: Realizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence is an incredible book! Daniel Goleman, author of the international bestseller Emotional Intelligence teams up with Richard Boyatzis, previously a CEO of a large company and author of numerous books on management and motivation himself, and Annie McKee from the Wharton School of Business to create this inspirational, engaging, informative, and visionary work on primal leadership. They reveal how understanding the powerful role of emotions can set the best leader apart from all the rest. The encouraging news is that great leadership is learnable. In this book you will learn how the leader has the power to significantly enhance performance of others through his emotional state and actions. You will read about the power of resonance: how you as a leader can inspire others to feel understood and uplifted even during difficult times. The key to primal leadership is the ability to transmit your passion and enthusiasm to others. You will discover the five steps necessary to create a plan of action to become your own ideal so that you too may become a great leader. I loved this book. It is easy to read and full of fascinating information that you can use. I want to begin to apply these principles of great leadership in my life!
