Summary: A must read
Review: This has been one of my favorite books since I first read it as a young girl. I can picture the island perfectly every time I read it and easily put myself into Karana's shoes. As an elementary education major, this is a book I will definately have in my own classroom library. I think it is an especially good book for young girls to read as it depicts a strong, self-sufficient young woman who overcomes many hardships and obstacles, not to mention years of pain and lonliness, just to survive. This is an excellent book and one that I would recommend to all readers.

Review: Scott O'Dell did a great Job on the Island of blue dolphins.
Karana and her brother Ramo get left behind on thier island. In the 1800's her brother gets killed. And she has to survive without him. She builds herself a house out of whale bone, and bull kelp. Read this book to find out what happens to her.

Summary: Island of the Blue Dolphins Review
Review: I read the book the Island of the Blue Dolphins. This is a great book, I recommend everybody to read it. The book starts out slow, but will build up as it goes. In this book there is a little girl named Won-a-pa-lei. She lived in the village Ghalas-at with her tribe. Her tribe all had secrets names. Hers is Karana. She has a father, younger brother and an older sister. Her mom died when she was very young. One day she saw a big boat with huge red sails. These men were called the Aleuts. These people came to the island to catch sea otter. Won-a-pa-lei's father, the Cheif of the tribe, said they may hunt the otter if they shared half when finished hunted. Once the Aleuts were ready to leave they did not pay their fair share. There was a huge fight and many died. Won-a-pa-lei's died had died too. The new Cheif of the tribe set of to the east to new land, for if the Aleuts returned they would not be able to fight them. Suns and Moons later another big ship returned, but this time had white sails. These men were sent to bring them to the new land. As the tribe gathered on to the boat the wind started to blow hard. Every body was on. Except when Won-a-pa-lei looked upon the island she saw her brother, Ramo, jumping up and down. It was too windy to turn around. They would have to come back another day. Won-a-pa-lei jumped off the boat to catch her little brother. They were both stuck on the Island. Later in the book Ramo is attacked by the wild dogs and killed. She is all alone on the Island. She builds a knew shelter, makes weapons, collects food and catches one of the wild dogs and become friends with him. She also makes many other animal friends on the island. Then once again the Aleuts returned. She hid and slept where her canoe was and stayed there until they left. Aleuts that is what she planed. She went out to get water, but one of the Aleut's wife's sees her. Instead of telling the other Aleuts she becomes a friend with Won-a-pa-lei. They make many gifts for each other until the Aleuts have to leave. Won-a-pa-lei makes even more friends with different animals after the Aleuts leave because she feels lonely. After awhile the White men with the white sails return. They told her the other ship had sunk and never made it back. They also tell her the aren't sure if they will make it back either. Now to find this out and all the many detail I left you will just have to read this book for your self. So go get this book and keep on reading.

Summary: Awsome Book!
Review: I am a 7th grade middle school student at Kopachuck Middle School. I enjoyed this book very much. I think one of the key reasons I enjoyed this book so much is because of the way Scott O'Dell decided to write from Karana's point of view. Karana's amazing adventure to survive on the island she was born and raised on was fascinating to me. Karana and her village were going to be taken to another island on a large ship, But as the ship is leaving the shore and is out at sea Karana can't find her younger brother Ramo any were. She looks to the shore and there he is running along the cliff with his fishing spear in hand. She tries to get the ship to return to shore but it won't because of strong winds. She dives from the ship and swims to shore. The ship leaves with out them. Tragedy strikes on the first night they are left alone on the island. Ramo, while off exploring is attacked and killed by a pack of wild dogs. Karana happens to see the face and eyes of the pack leader, she will remember them always. Karana, now alone on the island has to survive until the ship returns, if it ever does. While on the island she has to hunt for food and keep it away from the pack of wild dogs still roaming the hills. She builds a new shelter and creates weapons from the materials around her. One of the most surprising elements of the story is when Karana befriends the leader of the wild dogs and calls him Rontu. Rontu soon becomes Karana's best friend. He lives with and protects her. For a long while Rontu and Karana hunted together. Then one day Rontu and Karana were testing a canoe and exploring caves when they came upon a "devilfish". A devilfish is an octopus or squid. For many days they hunted it. Then they killed it. They had many adventures together. There are more surprises in the book. There were a lot of tragedies in this story, but I think that is what made this story so fascinating and it always had me at the edge of my seat. This book is the first of Scott O'Dell's books that I have read. Every time I read it, it still keeps me drawn in to the story. This is probably my favorite book. Review by Nikki

Review:
This book is about a girl that was stranded on an island for several of years,and her name was Karana. She was left behind at the island with her little brother. They got left behind because their dad died, so the Aleuts told the village people who lived on the island if they wanted to go and live with them. They did wanted to, so one rainy night they packed and started walking to the ship, but the little brother forgot something, so he went back. Karana didn't want to leave him behind, so she went with him. By the time the little brother got his things, they were to late. The ship had already sailed away. They had to be stranded on an island, until some one would rescue them.
I liked this book because Karana had to build all her shelter in order to survive. She had to build her own little place to sleep and live. She hunted fish, made her own fire, and tried to find everything she could in order to survive. She met one girl, who beacame her friend, and she met a wolf, who first attacked her, and her brother. Later tha pack of wolves died, except for one. A few days later, he came to her. So Karana had two friend with her on the island.
This book was interesting and adventurous. It makes you wondar what will happen next. Especially when Karana and the little brother if they were going to make it to the boat with the Aleuts. It was fun reading how Karana survived and what it took to survive. This is the first book i liked since years, it is very intertaining. It is filled with fun and adventerous stuff.
My favorite part in this book was when Karana and her little brother were rushing to the boat, to go with the Aluets. But they didn't make it because they were to slow. I wondered if they were going to survive on the island, or if they were going to die. But only the brother did from the pack of wolves. Karana had to live by her self for awile. Later she didn't, because she met two new friends.

Review: This book was not interesting. It was very boring,The only thing I liked about this book was the wild dogs. I also liked, the part when the wild dogs would always run after Karana.To me I think this book is the worst book I ever read.This book is a waste of time don"t buy this book and waste your money.

Review: I liked the book because it's about this courageous girl, Karana, who lived on The Island of the Blue Dolphins, only with her animal friends. I also liked reading it because it was based on a true story. Although it was verry sad, for example Rontu, a wild dog also Karana's best friend, died. Review: The Island of the Blue Dolphins is the best book I have ever read. It is about Karana and her tribe. I thought the book was exciting. Karana got stranded on an island. She said the island looked like a fish sunning itself. The only bad part about her being straned on the island is there is nobody to talk to and there are wild dogs. Read to find how she survives on the island.

Review: I thought it was a good book. The best part was how Karana treated Rontu and Rontu-Aru and how she took care of them . I disliked the end of the story it was stupid because I would've told them I was there. It should not include a lot of stuff. The thing I thought it should not include the most was how it changed from season to season.
