Rating: Summary: Ageless lesson Review: I read this because my sister was purchasing it as a gift for my daughter and I wanted to "preview" it. I couldn't set the book down! It addresses "myths" about what girls can and cannot do. In a beautiful and subtle way it teaches girls that they are capable of taking on whatever comes before them. Many of the young girls for whom I purchase gifts will be receiving this book!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I read this book for school and couldn't put it down neither could anyone else in my class.
Soon we were finished when some classes were still on chapter 5. The book made me feel so much on that island alone that it was hard tdo believe she was 30 years old . I liked it so much the way the ship was sunk in a big storm and that is all they tell you. I just can't wait for Zia
Rating: Summary: A Teacher Looks at 'Island of the Blue Dolphins' Review: This is a high interest book for middle and upper elementary school students. It is the story of Karana, a Chumash Native American girl on the central Coast of California. Karana and her brother are marooned on one of the Channel Islands, twenty-five miles off the coast of Santa Barbara, and they must use their knowledge of nature to survive. Part of this story is true, and yearly my class sails to Santa Cruz Island, a nearby island to what we think is the real "Island of the Blue Dolphins". This book is a very exciting and adventurous book about being on an island. For Karana and her brother it, indeed is an adventure of survival. A plaque in remembrance of Karana, is mounted in a wall in the cemetary of the Queen of the Missions, Mission Santa Barbara. This is an outstanding book!!! written by Bob Townsen
Rating: Summary: Memorable Review: There are few books you read that stay with you for your whole life. Island of the Blue Dolphins is one of those books. I read it when I was in the fifth grade, and today, many, many years later, I can still smell the ocean, feel the warm sand on my feet, and hear the barking of Rontu as clearly as when I fist read it.
On the surface, it is the story of one girl's struggle for survival, but the lessons are deeper than that. I learned that girls are just as capable of having adventures as boys, and just as capable of success.
This is not a story that will fade from your memory anytime soon.
Rating: Summary: so-so Review: Sure it was a good book, but it deffinently wasn't to die for. It illustrated this teenage girls life very well, and really explained what it would be like to be abandoned by your tribe on an island. But it just didn't relly move me
Rating: Summary: A heart warming adventure. One of O'Dell's best. Review: Of all the O'Dell books I have to say this one is the best.
It's about a young indian girl who becomes stranded on an island and how she manages to survive.I thoroughly enjoyed
this book. I could not put it down. I would recommend this book
to anyone ages 10-14 who loves to read, like me.
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best books that I have ever read. Review: I'm 11 years old and I read "Island Of The Blue Dolphins" when I was 10. I think one of the reasons why I loved this book so much is that it was so discriptive. The author, Scott O'Dell told all the incidents in great detail. I also loved it because it was so realistic. It was like I was Karana and all the things that were really happening to her, were happening to me instead!
I loved this book very much!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book Review: The first time I saw this book was when I was in grade school. I purchased it from the Troll Book Club (long out of existance I'm sure). I had a family member help me read it.
Wonderful story of an indian girl who survives total solitude for many years on an island.
Rating: Summary: Survival Review: This is a great survival story about a young Indian girl who has to use her mind and her heart to overcome the loneliness and many dangers on a deserted island. The island of the blue dolphins
