Rating: Summary: MOST MEMORABLE BOOK I'VE READ. Review: I am 25 years old.I read Island of the Blue Dolphins for the first time when I was in Mr. Simons 4th grade class.Since then, I have read it probably about 5 or 6 times.I recently purchased this beautiful story for my 6 year old daughter for Christmas and read it again for the first time in 10 years and I cried.I don't know why I cried. I didn't cry in Mr. Simons class.I didn't cry the last time I read it in 9th grade. But for some reason, this time I cried.Maybe it was Karana's strength that before I didn't understand quite as well.Or maybe the memories of the awesome visual pictures I would imagine as I read.Whatever it was Island of the Blue Dolphins will forever be my favorite story of all time.
Rating: Summary: Island of the Blue Dolphins was captivating..... Review: ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS WAS CAPTIVATING, AND IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN. IT KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEET THE ENTIRE TIME! NOT ONLY THAT, BUT IT WAS BASED ON A TRUE STORY. THIS BOOK IS FOR THE YOUNG AND OLD, AND WILL SURELY BE FAVORED BY ALL. I GIVE IT A 9!
Rating: Summary: A great book for readers of all ages! Review: When I first looked at the cover I thought it was going to be boring, but after our class started to read I actually began to enjoy it! Even though historical-fiction isn't my favorite type of book this is one of my favorite books. Some of the parts are really realistic!
Rating: Summary: The first book I ever read more than once Review: I fell in love with Karana in the 3rd grade when Ms. Moeller first read it to our class. I'm now 31. I have read Mr. O'Dell's book 5 times. My mother seemed to know which book I would bring home from the library every time. I finally bought the book and have it on standby for when my two children are old enough to enjoy it. Hopefully, I will read it to them and it will take off for them like it did for me. Enjoy this book!
Rating: Summary: Here is a heroine motivated by love who learns self-reliance Review: I read this book at age 11 and am now close to the forty mark but when girlfriends asked me cynically whether any book had ever had the power to change my life. I instantly said yes, and that book was Island of the Blue Dolphins! It is a book that not only features a girl as a strong character but it celebrates her resoursefullness, humanity, earth -conscious ingenuity, and hard work. She can create what she needs with her own two hands and think problems through to a solution. I believe she was the first real, non-comic, heroine I had ever read of and in my mind she is still the best!
Rating: Summary: It was GOOD!! Review: My class at school is reading this book and I like it alot! Karana's adventures are fun to read and I love reading her descriptions of the island and her house. They are very vivid!
Rating: Summary: Island of the Blue Dolphins Review: I first read Island of the Blue Dolphins as a young girl. I remember it as one of my favorites and after 25+ years I still consider this children's book to be one of the best books I have ever read. Add this book to your holiday list for any juvenile readers. I guarantee they'll love it!
Rating: Summary: good characters boring plot. Review: I didn't rate this book very well because it started out good, but when I got to the middle of the book it started to get boring. It started on the Island of the Blue Dolphins, with a girl named Won-a-pa-lei waiting for a ship with red sails to come to the island. Soon it came and the weather was very nice. The problem is that Won-a-pa-lei and her brother Ramo got left behind on the island, and they had to take care of themselves. After a little while Ramo got attacked and killed by wild dogs, so Won-a-pa-lei was on the island by herself, and she had to do all the work that was done by a man. That is when it started getting boring when she had to start taking care of herself.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: This book was read to my fourth grade class (20 years ago) and I've never forgotten it. The heroine is so brave and resourceful. the book is exciting and descriptive, I still remember what the island looks like!
Rating: Summary: READ THIS BOOK!! Review: I'm ten years old now, but I have read and reread this book since I was nine. It is a very descriptive book, and the story sounds sounds very much like a true story. Karana is a very smart girl, and while other people in her position would just panic, Karana was able to survive. This is a book I think everone should read!
