Summary: In The Top Five All-time Best young adult books!!
Review: A story of survival against all odds. Karana is a courageous 12-year old girl who survives on a lonely island for 18 years. While she learns to live with the lonliness, she becomes in touch with the serenity and beauty of the island and its animal habitants. A must read for all 4th, 5th and 6th graders!!! You won't mind reading this one at all.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Absorbing and interesting story about loneliness and courage
Review: Throughout the story the reader is absorbed by the vivid imagery of O'Dell's writing and truly does hope that Karana will be rescued. The story is great mix of action, adventure, and drama throughout the book. While reading the book, I felt as if I were Karana's only companion, or that she was dictating her life story to me via a diary. Children reading the text will likely wonder if they too could bear living eighteen years alone of an island and may decide to do some investigating about the cultures of southeastern Native Americans on their own. I am skeptical about how much research O'Dell actually did himself since the characters seem overdramatized.

Summary: Classic, moving survival story
Review: This is seriously one of the very best books for young readers ever written. And it's not just for girls--my two brothers also loved it! Also, fans of this book should definitely read "Julie of the Wolves" by Jean Craighead George and "The Sacrifice" by Diane Matcheck, two more wonderful adventure stories about Indian girls trying to survive alone in the wilderness.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The book makes you feel as if you were there on the island.
Review: I think the book is imaginative. As you read it it is as if you were Karana living on this deserted Island. I think this book is one of the best books I have read in a long time and truly deserves the awards it has recieved.

Summary: One of the greatest novels for young women
Review: Today is bring your child to work day at my office. A young girl was by my desk saying she did not like to read. A few of my coworkers and I offered some suggestions. My suggestion was Island of the Blue Dolphins. I remember this book as a sixth grader when my best friend told me about it. It is one of my all time favorites. All about courage and strength. A great read. I still have my original paperback.

Summary: Nice and well written I would recomend this book to you
Review: As a 12 year old I thought this book was great I read this book atleast a year ago and I still remember the whole story!!!!!This novel deosn't really have dolphins it's just that the island has alot of dolphins around it so that's how it got it's name. But there are some part's with dolphins and there are these wild dogs in the story as well. They help her in parts and it's just a lovely book. you must read it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I say it's for ages 9 and above but if there sre some good readers that are younger they should read it too.

Summary: A Timeless Classic For All Ages
Review: I first read this book back in the 4th grade, and I am now 21 years old. I continue to count it amongst my all time favorites. Scott O'Dell had such a talent for writing. I think that this should STILL be required reading for all 4th graders. It sets a great role model for young girls, and even at my age, it's easy to identify with the characters. I just absolutely loved it, and always will.

Summary: My Favorite book!!!!!
Review: This book was about a brave girl named Karana and her dog Rontu. She was left on an island and learned to live bravely on her own. I loved this book because there was alot of adventure and suspense. She is a strong role model for girls because she had to live on her own for 18 years and she learned how to do everything by herself.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fantastic! Magnificant! I recommend this book to ANY reader!
Review: I read this book when I was ten (I am twelve now) and I loved it. I couldn't put it down for a second. This book explained how Indians kept their houses, or did their work. You felt you were actually IN the book yourself. There was Adventure, excitement, sadness, and happiness. This is one of my favorite books along with "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" and "The Bronze Bow" by Elizabeth George Speare. Have fun!
