Summary: This was outstanding book.
Review: Island of the Blue Dolphin is an excellent book. It is like an emotional rollercoaster. Something good might happen and all of a suddenly something bad happen. It is a symbol of how women can be independent. It is a book you can really get into. It shows survival and the importance of family. The basic lesson of this story is to keep on going no matter what happens. A tragedy of how losing friends, family, and close neighbors can taech you a lot. This is a completely true story. I would reccomend this book to anyone that is into the independence of women or just a good adventure

Summary: This book was not very good.
Review: "Island of the Blue Dolphins" was a boring book because there was not a lot of activity going on. All it was, was a book about a girl 'alone' on an island. There was no conversation or very much fiction about it. It would have been better if it talked about the animals being able to talk or if Karana would have been picked up by a spaceship full of aliens. This book took up a lot of my precious time. I didn't mind this very much because it was an easy 'A' if you followed along and paid attention. I would not recommend this book to be read again. I surely would never read it again.

Summary: The book was o.k. but not the best.
Review: I liked this book because a thirteen year old girl shows she can take care of herself. Something that I didn't like is that it was sad because she lost her family in a war. Her brother Ramo was the only thing that she had left. A couple of days after all of the rest of her family got killed her brother Ramo was attacked by a pack of wolves. Over all the book was pretty good. It is not the best book that I have ever read though.

Summary: My students were able to compare the video with the book.
Review: I teach fourth grade and this book is a core literature selection in my district. I find the video a valuable tool to use with my class after reading the selection. I have the students view the video critically. They are to determine if the video was faithful to the novel. Most of my class liked the novel much more than the video.

Summary: Island of the Blue Dolphin Movie for students
Review: I am a sixth grade teacher, and have watched this video three times, after reading the Island of the Blue Dolphin book with my students. The movie is decent in one respect that it actually illustrates the island, Karana, Ramo, and Rontu, BUT... for students in this day and age, it does need a little updating. It moves slow - and at times students find it "old fashioned" and "boring" to quote some of my students.

Review: karana was living in an island with her family. her father was the chief of the island.the white men came to the island. they were called aleuts. they wanted to hunt in the island. chief chowing didn't want this. then they made a deal. the aleuts should have given them the half of the animals that they hunt. they hunt and didn't give half of it. they were about to leave but karana's brother saw them and the fight started. a lot of people died. these people were men because the women were not allowed to fight. chief chowing died too. there were a lot of women and a little men. kimki was the new chief. he went somewhere to bring people to the island. he sent some people to bring there. the canoes left but karana's brother was left in the island. she jumped from the canoe and swam to the island. in the island ramo and karana were alone. ramo died. karana lived 18 years in the island. in this time she broke the rules of her religion. it said women should not make weapons, women should not fight and hunt but she had to do these to survive.then somebody came and she learned that her tribe couldn't go where they want to go. but she leave the island.
