Rating: Summary: Island of the Blue Dolphins Review: I thought that this book was a excellent but seeing that I am thirteen I thought it should be read by a younger kid. I think that the part were the sister jumps over the edge of the boat to save her brother was very moving. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: excellent family movie Review: I Love this movie and the book. Filmed near my childhood home. Saw this movie first when I was very young, now I want it for my granddaughter. And dont forget the Kleenex.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put the book down Review: This book was excellent. I read it for a college education class. It was so suspenseful, I couldn't wait for what would happen next. I enjoyed it so much I bought the sequel the next day.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book! Review: We loved reading about Karana's adventures on the island. We read this book every night for one week. A five year old gives it five stars. A seven year old gives it four stars (because the octopus part was scary). An eight year old gives it five stars. The friendships with Rontu, Rontu Aru and the other animal friends were special.
Rating: Summary: A really god and adventurous book Review: I think this is the best book that I have ever read FOR SCHOOL ONLY! It was quite suspensful, and it was very well written. The young girl is alone on an island for 18 years, and she has many adventures. GOOD BOOK, READ IT!
Rating: Summary: A Pretty Darn Good Book! Review: I had to read this book for a book report at school. I was expecting another boring book of dumb tales, but to my surprise, I was on the edge of my seat sometimes while reading this book, and I thought it was written pretty well with the killer dogs, and a girl surviving on an island for 18 years.
Rating: Summary: Every 4th grader should read this book atleast once! Review: I am a teacher and we read this book together in class. We spent 30 minutes each day and in two weeks we had completed the book and each child was assigned a book report project. Not only did the children thoroughly enjoy reading this book, each child wrote wonderful summaries which included their understanding of the values and hardships that the charachters went through. As a class we decided that Scott O'Dell is our favorite author.
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: Okay, I admit it: I'm biased. I read this when I was barely six years old - it has been one of the books that shaped my reading life. It tells about a tribal girl named Karana and her battle with the environment to stay alive until her people return to take her away. If you're used to Tom Clancy, I don't recommend it - the plot lines are so subtle as to vanish from sight. Basically, it's a linear story telling of Karana's life on a day to day basis - but her occupations are far from ordiinary. She must make her own weapons (something a tribal woman would have been put to death for), kill her own food, build her own dwelling, and defend herself from the rabid dogs ranging the island. It's true that there is a lot of death in this book, but it is not gory or hideous, and it is merely a facet of the splendid, 'Nature'-type plot. This is one of the ultimate 'battle against the elements' book. A lot of you, as adults, may hate it for its simplicity and apparently 'dull' storyline. But hey - it's a children's book. And all of the children I've talked to have liked it.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED it! Review: It was by far, one of the most adventuous books for young adults out there! I read this when I was in 4th grade (actually our teacher did) but I didn't really pay attention. My Aunt Lisa said it's a great book and I should read it. So I read it on my own about four months ago, and loved it! I love Indians because my Great-Grandma had a lot of Indian in her and I've found myself drawn to books about Indians. Trust me, it's full of adventure and fun! I think it's a must-read for all ages!
Rating: Summary: How could you give it anything less? Review: I first read it in 3rd grade, which as we all can remember, no matter WHAT book we read back then it was boring. Now, at grade twelve, I had a dream reminding me of this book, so I ordered it off amazon.com and re-read it again. Absolutely amazing. Perhaps it just me, or just people who enjoy the "departure-from-the-real-world-and-into-serenity" kinda thing. I can sum up the plot any better than those reviewers before me(except that guy who gave it 2 stars, "HEL-LO" what's the problem with you?) If you enjoy a drama that takes place in a beautifully described, distant paradise: Then might I reccommened reading this book, and optimally listening to some soft woodwind music and drinking a nice warm glass of Chai Tea during a rainy day. The mind-departure experience!
