Review: A very good book - would make a good dramatic movie! Great imagery ... a tear-jerker in one spot ... I think everyone should read it!

Review: This book is about a girl who is 12 years old who jumps off the boat because she realizes her brother was not on the boat leaving with their tribe to another island. Once she gets back on the island that is when the story really starts. After her brother dies she is the only one on the island and she has to deal with many obstacles like supplies, loneliness, and animals. She ends up getting rescued at the age of 30. The reason I rated this book at 3 stars was because I felt like this was one of many books about stranded people in different places, and the theme is overused. This book reminds me of "Hatchet", "My Side of The Mountain", and "Lupita Manana".

Review: I started to read island of The Blue Dolphins with my 5th grade class, we have only now finished it. It was so inspiring to me as a youg girl to learn about a person similar to my age in the beginning, go through many diiferent "traumas" in her life. We are going on a 5th grade trip in a camp. This book helped me learn about the outdoors. My class is also doing a Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation containing informathion from the book. There are 6 slides. 1. Cover page. 2. a breif summary about the book. 3. some information about the author including other book he has written. 4. a map of the island including where everything goes and how big the island is. 5. Important events. 6. an answer to what was the most helpful thing that helped Karana stay alive. This book has helped me learn about survival, and hopefully you too!!!

Review: My 4th grade teacher read this book aloud to our class in the mid-60s. As I read it with my own children over 30 years later, it's lost none of its magic. Transport yourself or your children to another place and another way of living. Scott O'Dell has a beautiful handle on writing for youth that strikes the chord of truth. Try Sarah Bishop next!

Summary: Island of the Blue Dolphens
Review: The book Island of the Blue Dolphins is a fascinating story of survival. I liked this book because it included a lot of details that helped to create a clear image in my mind. However, The only part that I dislike it was the ending. The whole story up until this part was full of details, and then the ending was short and simple. If you enjoy stories of survival, you'll definitely enjoy the story of Karana and the Island of the Blue Dolphins. I think this book really shows you what it is like to be stranded and never know when help's going to come. It's not hard to read and I think anyone would enjoy it.

Review: After read this book, I felt empty because of ending. It didn't organized well. The indian girl, Karana was strong enough to survive alone. But the end of this book, every efforts of hers were disappeared with rescue of white men who suddenly appeared. I think something should be done in the island instead of leaving there, for example, settle down with returned tribe. They can live peaceably based on Karana's products. If it has a more positive ending, more chidren can be hopeful.

Review: It was my homework to read this book. The story about an Indian girl who lives alone in island all about eighteen years. She learned how to survive with no help. It souds intersting. Right? However, there is no specific factors. It is just the same as the other adventure books. What such a boring story. If auther written more exiting not just descripte,it might be better. Sometimes, I imagine that live alone ,but this way.

Summary: Warm and Fuzzy.
Review: Island of the Blue Dolphins is absolutely delightful. A young Indian girl jumps ship to be with her abandoned brother as her tribe evacuates an island. He dies anyway, and she is not rescued for eighteen years. The book is a classic island survival tale in the vein of Robinson Crusoe and Swiss Family Robinson. The female protagonist is constantly challenged by weather, wolves, her brother's death, loneliness, and the basic necessities of life: food, clothing, water, and shelter.

The book is aimed at younger readers and is brilliant in that O'Dell employs an writing style of understatement, simply telling the story without a lot of emotional embellishment, allowing young readers' imaginations to flesh it out and visualize the adventure and suspense themselves.
