Rating: Summary: Hop into a great book! Review: Island of the Blue Dolphins is about a girl named Karana. She has to survive on this island by her self. The part that was a wonderful thing was when she saves a wild dogs life. She does that by feeding him and take him to the beach. Another good part in this novel is when she goes to a new island far away from to\he isalnd she is from. She does tha t by drifing across the huge waves to the enw and wonderful island to get away from the mean lod wild dogs.l The part when her brother Ramo gets killed at the very begining is very sad. He gets killed by a wild pack of dogs that live on the island. The other part that is sad when her tribe gets killed. I would recommend this novel to anybody who likes adventurous novels.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: The Island of the Blue Dolphins gets really sad when Karana's brother dies. She has to live by herself which she has to be really storng to stay there by herself. It is also very sad when Rontu died it was very sad becuase he was like her best friend. The best part that i thought was good was when a girl comes form the Aluits and Karana actually has a friend to talk to and hang out with even though she cant talk to her very well it makes her feel better to talk to a person. I think that the ending wasn't very good when it just says that they road of in a bota twtih Rontu- Aru! This book is probably one of the best books that i have read so far! I reaccamend this book to any one from any ages years old als o people that like books that go along fast!

Rating: Summary: Island of the Blue Dolphins Review: The book was about a young Indian girl, named Karana, and her brother Ramo, live on an Island off the coast of california looms a harsh rock know as the Island of San Nicholas, with their dad and a whole Indian Tribe. Dolphins splash around in the blue waters and otters play around in the water with the dolphins. They indians one day decide they want to leave the island, adn everyone leaves, but the girls' little brother Ramo, finds out he leaves his arrow back in his hut, and he runs back to get it. By time he gets back, the ship is already leaving and Karanais yelling for Ramo, and she sees him running to the top of a big cliff. Karan yells at the captain of the ship to stop and go back, but the tide would pull them back upon shore, and they would crash on the rocks at the bottom of the shore. So, Karana runs and jumps off the ship and swims back to shore to stay with her brother, Ramo. They sadly watch the ship fade away into the fog. One day, Ramo wants to go and catch fish early in the morning and Karana says "no, the wild dogs will attack you!" So she wakes up and finds Ramo gone in the morning, so she thinks he is going to surprise her, but he doesn't. Night time comes, he doesn't return. She finds him dead, the wild dogs killed him. She burries Ramo, and lives alone on the island for 18 years, and she finally gets rescued. This is a really good story.
Rating: Summary: A true heroine Review: What does it take for a 12 year old girl to survive alone for (18 years) after being left behind on a rocky island? Well, this is what happens to Karana (also known as Won-a-pa-lei) finds out. With only companions being a pack of vicious wild dogs, sea otters and some birds, she sets out to live as best as she could. Eventually, deep friendships develop with these animals and Karana's loneliness is abated (somewhat). Remembering what her tribe did in the past, she built shelters, found food and made weapons. Every day, she looks out to the sea wondering if the ship that carried her people away would come back for her. Yet, even in her successful attempt at survival, she longs for human companionship. This is a beautiful and true story of "The Lost Woman of San Nicolas"... Karana's sheer will and determination to survive and her simple courage is told by Scott O'Dell and her adventures leap out from the pages. Her triumphant yet bittersweet story is wonderfully recreated. I highly recommend it to young readers out there.
Rating: Summary: Island of the Blue Dolphins--An Excellent Novel Review: After reading Island of the Blue Dolphins a few days ago, I must say I'm highly impressed. Throughout the entire book, I pictured the situations of Karana on her island as I read it. Amazing were the descriptions and imagery used in this novel, and it seems like a wonderful book for people of all ages. I would also consider it an emotional book. At certain points in the novel, I could sometimes feel what Karana was feeling. For example, when she saw a ship approach the island, when she found what happened to Rontu towards the end, when she discovered what had happened to her people--I could see her perspective of events like this. This helped me relate more to the story, and understand it better. I enjoyed the characters as well. Karana seemed very strategical in her situations as well as emotional towards all the animals she kept as pets on the island, and what she did on it. Almost everything Karana did on the island kept me entertained, and wanting to read more. I wanted to know what kind of animals she would find next, if she would ever get back home, and what plot-changing event would happen next. For a book of its genre, I would say it is fantastic. Even though it wasn't a story with much action, I would still say it's partially cliffhanger, with a desire to read on to see what happens. All in all, I give this book an excellent rating. I had fun reading it and I'm sure you will too.
Rating: Summary: A true masterpiece... Review: Memories of when I first read this book still flow through my mind. "The Island of the Blue Dolphins" by Scott O'Dell is a wonderful masterpiece, and in my opinion, is one of the greatest novels I have ever read. The story starts out in the village of Ghalas-at on an island in the Pacific ocean, off the coast of California. Karana, a young native of the island, lives in the village with her father, the chief of the village, her brother, Ramo, who was younger than her, and her older sister, Ulape. One morning, the Aleuts come to the island wanting to trade with the islanders. They are hesitant, but trust the white men. Then, on the day the Aleuts leave the island, there is a disagreement between the villagers and the Aleuts. The Chief and the Captain of the Aleuts get into an argument, whihc then starts a battle on the beach. The Aleuts leave the island with the goods, not trading with the villagers. Many of the village's men are killed, including the chief. Now they are worried that survival may be difficult without the large portion of their men to hunt and fight in the case of an attack. The villagers decide that leaving the island may be a wise choice. Soon after, white men (not Aleuts), come to rescue the defenseless vilalgers of Ghalas-at. As the large ship leaves the island during a storm, Karana finds out her younger brother is still on the island. In fear and love for her brother, the girl jumps of the side of the ship and swims to the shore. The boat cannot turn back now-if they were to do so, it would crash into the rocks and kill everyone aboard. Karana is sure the white men will return for her and her brother soon. Now Karana is on the island alone, and she must live off the resources the island gives her. This book is a wonderful surival story, and anyone can read this story and still enjoy it, no matter what genre you may prefer. The story is magnificent, and I have read it at least 25 times since ythe first time I read it in elementary school. your never too old for this book, and you'll definetly enjoy it.
