Rating: Summary: Scott's Critique Review: I recently read the book Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O' Dell. I would give the book a 4 out of 5 possible stars. The book is about a 12-year-old Native American girl named Karana who survives on her own on an island off the west coast of America. The story is about how Karana gets left behind when her tribe decided to move to another island. During the move Karana's little brother Ramo was left behind on the beach because he was looking for his fishing spear. Karana jumped off the boat and swam back to the island to get her brother. Both Karana and Ramo get left alone on the island. The first night on the island Ramo gets attacked by wild dogs and is killed. One of the things I liked about the book was that it was very descriptive. The author makes you feel like you are on the island with Karana. My favorite part of the book was when Karana met a wild dog-named Rontu. Rontu becomes Karana's pet. I didn't like that there was a lot of killing and dieing in the book. There were also many sad parts like when Ramo and Rontu died. I would of liked the book more if there was less death in it. I would recommend this book to any person that likes adventure books. If you like the "Hatchet" series, by Gary Paulson, you will love this book.
Rating: Summary: Hello :) Review: Island if The Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell is a great book. The book took place on an island on which an indian tribe lives. The main character of the book, Karana, is left behind with her little brother, Ramo, on the island after a battle. They must live out their lives alone there. It tells the story that lasted years. It explains the relationships the main character, Karana, comes across. This is a real life book. I loved this book so much that I went out and got the sequel to it. The dialect used in this book can be a little difficult to understand at first but you get used to it. I think everyone should read this captivating book.
Rating: Summary: My New Favorite Book Review: At first, I thought this book would be just another story of survival in the wilderness. But after reading it, it's become my new favorite book! Karana is left alone on the Island of the Blue Dolphins in an attempt to save her brother. She hopes that the ship will return soon to take them away, but soon finds herself alone and needing protection. Karana shares what she does during the long years of waiting, from building a clever house to taming a wild dog. Because of the details and emotions in this book, some of the parts almost brought me to tears! I would recommend this wonderful book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Amy's Amazing Review Review: Island of the Blue Dolphins in is classic survival story. This heart filled book is also very adventurous. Although this book is somewhat based on a true story, it was especially awesome reading about a young girl who could totally fend for herself and live all alone for so long. I also like how descriptive O'Dell was throughout the book, especially in the setting.

Rating: Summary: Beautifully written book. Review: I remember reading this book in elementary school. It touched me so much that I am going to buy this and read it to my children. I hope that they will enjoy this as much as I did!
Rating: Summary: A great premise that doesn't capture the imagination Review: I have to hand it to Scott O'Dell in one respect: I imagine writing a book with only one character taking place over several years must be hard; there is no interaction between characters, no traditional, fast-paced plot with rising action, a climax and falling action (don't get me wrong, one does exist, but it's drawn out over several years). It is interesting to read the main character's progression from a timid girl who is nervous about even trying to make weapons to a strong, surviving, resourceful woman, to a lonely, pessimistic soul. O'Dell must again be complimented for getting into the head of this woman and successfully, smoothly taking the reader along as her world outlook changes. He even pulled at my heartstrings a little when Rontu dies. However, aside from the death of Rontu, O'Dell never really makes me care about the character. I understand that this is a novel intended for young adults, but I suppose I expected more from a book that has won so many awards and has been raved about by so many of my colleagues. While it is worth the short read, it didn't live up to my expectations.
Rating: Summary: Very well done Review: This is very complete and nice. Although it is taunting and strange. One thing is the diolouge. It seems very strange....
