Rating: Summary: Parents, you just have to get this! Review: This book was just incredible! I came to this book expecting something completely different. I understood the synopsis, but never expected to find how absolutely fantastic this book was. I found few problems with the book. Mainly two things. The first few chapters were a little slow. I began to wonder when she'd ever be alone on the island. When she was, the story picked up at an astonishing pace and not a moment was boring. I was a little worried about her desire to 'kill' the wild dogs. Yet, the issue is addressed without offense. I cannot say more without spoiling this beautiful story. I certainly never suspected to find such incredible moral issues woven throughout this book. Karana learns some very important lessons in her solitary life. At the top of the list is how Karana learns that forgiveness, rather than revenge or hatred, has immense rewards. She learns that beauty comes through the love of nature, and that the gift of love and giving is precious in so many ways. This book touched me in a way I cannot describe. There are tearful moments, but they are few and last only momentarily. There is suspense, but it should not be frightening for children 9 and over if you are reading aloud to your children. Advanced 4th grade readers should be able to read it well enough themselves. The material though is a little deep (emotionally) for children younger, even if they read well. I truly feel this is a book everyone should add to their collection.
Rating: Summary: kARANA'S COURAGE Review: "Island Of The Blue Dolphins" is a pretty good book. Even though some parts in it did not interest me. It's about an Indian girl named Karana who gets stranded on an island and has to battle it out. There are exciting parts that will want you to keep on reading. It may be hard for some people to read. It also sometimes drags along and it needs a better ending. Find out what happens with Karana by reading ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS.
Rating: Summary: Island of theBlue Dolphins Review: If you like brave, caring, strong characters you'll like this book. Also if you care for animals you'll love the way Karana takes care of them in her own special way. This book has some great description. Scott'O Dell has a very unique way of writing. Sometimes it will feel like the story thins out, but then something or someone new comes along. It also might seem like the story keeps on repeating over and over, but then something new always happens. I think you'll love the ending because some new people are added to the story.
Rating: Summary: BeLiEvE aNd yOu'LL aChIeVe......... Review: Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell Do you think that you can forever depend on your family and friends? Do you think they will forever be there for you? People seem to forget that as you get older you got to start your own life, get on, do things for yourself, be independent and organize. We teen cannot depend on our love ones forever, who may know what's going to happen. We got to learn to depend, help and survive on our own. So when something happen we will know what to do. Karana will take you on a journey to realize and learn how hard life is when your love ones separate or pass away. You will learn to understand that it takes risks and many things to survive on your own. Every since when the Aleuts came and destroy their homes, Karana was left behind with her brother and the other survivors. As time goes by the survivors moved out of the island and left Karana and her brother (Ramo) behind. She loves her brother very much and she always want the best for him. She taught him how to haunt and how to build shelter and fire. Everything they do: fish, build and haunt they do it together. He learn many things and he always look up to her. They have nothing left but each other. But along the story, the wild dogs took him away from her. The wild dogs left her nothing but herself and the island. So hopeless and sad, many loves one and things has been taken away from her. As she grew alone on the island she learn how to help herself to survive. By building shelter, making weapons, find food and fighting her enemies, the wild dogs. Many adventure she had experience and go through: pain , huger, sorrow, happiness, faith , and courage we would all share it with her and her new friends as she live her life alone on the big Island of the Blue Dolphins. This bravery and amazing story will make you understand the suffering and surviving of a young girl Karana had experience in her life alone. For example on page#50, "To make weapons to protect myself from the dogs, which I felt would sometimes attack me." She learn how to make weapons by herself. The good thing is that she predict what was going to happen so she prepared for it. Although she is a girl she will do and try to make anything to protect herself and live her life as long as she can make it. Just like us teen today we got to be prepared to do things on our own. Learn and achieve by our self. Believe and go for it. Don't wait until things start to happen. Do it now so it won't be so hard on you as you get older. Another part that she did to survive was on page #56, "I carried dry seaweed up from the beach and made a bed for myself." She hunts and she build/make things for her self to use for protection and to hunt. She is a very strong and brave girl who can do many things although it take times and life risking. If we try hard and focus we will make it and succeed in life too. The life lesson in this book that the author is trying to tell us is that don't depend or look up to someone forever. Who may know what will happen. You got to learn and earn on your own because you are the only one that can help and save yourself. You can't always expect for someone to be there for you. I learn many things from this book, I learn that as I grow up I had to learn to do things for myself. This book encourage me to keep track with my education because it make me realize that education is very important and play a great part in my life. I learn that I need to do my work, all assignment and things I need to do to succeed because I know I will need these teaching to help build my knowledge and to help me succeed in life. Also to achieve great things in the coming up future. In our teen life today, education is known best important, we have a future and we got to work for it. Our loves ones wont be there always and forever. Depend on yourself,be there for yourself, don't put yourself down and love yourself. Depend and believe in yourself you will achieve. It is about a girl named Karana, an Indian girl whose father is the chief of a tribe in the village of Ghalas-at. The village is on the Island of the Blue Dolphins. One day a ship that belonged to otter hunters came. the otter hunters broke their deal with the chief and their was a big battle. Many men including the chief die.
