Rating: Summary: GREAT READ! Review: I read this in about 3 and a half hours! It was really good and a pretty quick read. I think people who like Harry Potter will enjoy it! The Bad Beginning also improved my vocabulary!
Rating: Summary: RIP Review: This book is awesome. I can't put the series down. I just picked it up one day, and I only have three more books to read. I am kind of obsessed with it. It is so incredibly distressing it just rips at your heart. I love it! It is wonderfully written, and just gives me chills. The series gets better and better. And you really see the children learning and getting more clever. However, these books may not be suited for young children even thought it is written for them. But the adventures of the Baudelaire orphans are a lot of dark devious fun! I am going to go read the next one right now!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down!! Review: Wow! This book is not your average! (...), the kids are orfans and this is just the first book of many more to come. This book had action going the whole time and the plot was amazing! I really think Lemony Snicket is a great writer and really think you should read this book!!
Rating: Summary: The Bad Beginning by Joe Review: In the beginning of this book the Baudelaire children's parents parish in a terrible house fire. They find out by their parents good friend Mr. Poe who is a banker for the city bank. The children were very upset. They stayed with Mr. Poe for one night. Then in the morning he took them to a near by relative (their parents had requested that the stay with a relative) their new guardian was called Count Olaf. This man was very cruel to the children. He made them make their own meals and for him and his theatre troupe. They made them a meal and the men didn't like it so they had to make them another meal. Every miring Count Olaf made them a list of jobs to do each day. All of their chores were hard for any child to do.I really didn't like the way Count Olaf treated the children. He treated them very badly. He would beat them if they didn't do their chores good enough. He also supplied them with a very old crummy bed with lumps and the springs were sticking out also. I also liked the way Klaus thinks out his plans to stop Count Olaf. The protagonists, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, all hate Count Olaf. They all try to contact Mr. Poe at the bank but he just doesn't believe that he is that cruel to them. Also they protect their fortune. They never give up with any thing either. The Baudelaire children are brave. The always-out wit Count Olaf in hide plans to steal their fortune. I wouldn't like to be them! It would be such a hard time for me to have my parents die in a fire and try to protect their fortune. I would of given up the first day. This situation would be too tough for me. I encourage you to read the book the Bad Beginning!
Rating: Summary: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket Review: I am very disappointed in the rating of this book. New York Times Bestseller List published it as age 10 and up. I wasn't going to purchase it for our library and then Booklist reviewed it and also had the age limit as age 10 and up. I purchased it and got a complaint right off quick. I read the book and find it to be very dark humor. In this day of violence and terrorisim, I find this book to be horrendous. The villain is out to kill three children. The mention of him marrying a 14 yr. old child to get her fortune is very suggestive and there is no mention of the care of the infant child, only torture. I had purchased three books before I realized the content. Needless to say they have been moved to our young adult section which is for ages 13 and up. I just feel it is not appropriate for the age level it is being suggested for. I hate to think I have to read every book before I put it on the shelf. That is what I am relying on my reviewers for.
Rating: Summary: The Best Beginning!!!!!!! Review: This is the first book in the A Series of Unfortunate Events series. It is a very good introduction. Violet, Klaus and Sunny are three children who have the largest amount of bad luck I've ever read about. These books are miserable and depressing and I thought they'd be horrible but amazingly they are great. The first book tells us all about Violet, the inventor, Klaus, the researcher and Sunny the biter Baudelaire. When their parents are killed in a fire, the three Baudelaires are sent to live with a distant relitive, Count Olaf, a horrible man that owns a theater group which consists of a bald man with a beaky nose, two women with powdered white faces, a man with hooks instead of hands and a horrible creature of a person that neither looks like a man or woman. They are all almost as horrible as Count Olaf himself. When the Count finds out about the fortune that Violet will inherit when she is of age, ( Violets 14, Klaus 12 and Sunny an infant ) he trys an awful plan to take the fortune and if the children don't stop him, Violet will be a Countess forever!!!
Rating: Summary: The VERY BAD beginning Review: These kids are unlucky and with Count Olaf after their money which was left behind when their house burned down and killed their parents count olaf tries somthing horrible read it to see the outcome
Rating: Summary: You'll be unfortunate if you don't read this book! Review: Only Lemony Snicket could of wrote this book. If you read the first page you just can't stap reading it. Also if you read THE BAD BEGINNING you have to read the rest of the series. Lemony Snicket is BY FAR the best author the world has ever seen.
Rating: Summary: This book totally SUCKS Review: I have to say that this is absolutely the worst piece of literature i ever read. This is NOT HOW REAL KIDS ACT. First of all they would have resorted to violence, there must have been an assortment of tools they could have used to knock him unconcious with. Or they could have, I don't know, RUN AWAY. They're millionaires after a while of refusing to go back they would put them some place else. There are so many ways that this book could have been different and make it ACTUALLY GOOD and worth reading. But other then that just picture three really idiotic kids, make them do all the stupidest things possible and not trying to save their own lives, I think it was more like a book about suicide then anything else.
Rating: Summary: the best book in the world Review: I think Lemony Snicket writes alot of terrific books for 9 and up. Her books are little sad and also a little funny. When I read this book I had mixed feeling's.Then I realized if I didn't take the book like it was in real life it would not be so sad.So by the time I finished the book it was SO good! That made the book worth 5 stars.I am going to read the whole rest of the seire's.
