Rating: Summary: Tim Curry IS Count Olaf... and Mr. Poe and Sunny... Review: Tim Curry is superb in his rendering of the characters. I can't imagine just reading this book--you'll miss out on the realism and horror his voice brings to the story. Listen to the book on tape!
Rating: Summary: Unfortunate to the end? Review: A delighting book starting with three children playing on the Briny Beach. Out of nowhere the family friend Mr.Poe tells them their house burnt down and their parents died in the fire. Mr.Poe takes care of them for a couple days. Thats where the real trouble starts. The children are sent to live with there third cousin four times removed. His name is Count Olaf and he is after the orphan's inherited fortune. He treats them like dust and the only person who can help them is Mr.Poe and he says Olaf is acting in loco parentis(obviously he isn't). The one nice person on the street is the only person who listens to them. Will the Baudelaire orphans make it out alive or will they suffer forever?
Rating: Summary: A Dastardly (which here means GOOD) debut! Review: I'm one of the many Lemony Snicket fans who's not in the 7-14 age group for whom the Unfortunate Series of Events series is written. I'm actually re-reading the series for the 2nd time, before the release of THE CARNIVOROUS CARNIVAL later this year.THE BAD BEGINNING is the start of the Baudelaire children's (Violet, Klaus and Sunny) grave misfortunes that will visit them in every book. The book is cleverly packaged inside and out: on the back cover is a short list of the awful things the children will encounter. On the inside back cover is a letter from Lemony Snicket detailing his valiant attempt to deliver the next story in the series. He leaves a set of clues directing us to the location of the manuscript. Definitely original and highly entertaining from start to finish! I can certainly see a TV adaptation of these books in hour-long episodes. Tim Burton as director comes to mind immediately. A quick and fun read for "kids of all ages!!"
Rating: Summary: You're going to cry and then laugh and then cry! Review: Read this with your children! It's as good as Kingdoms and Elves of the Reaches and it's hillariously irreverent! Violet, Klaus and baby Sunny are orphaned when a fire burns their home and kills their parents but that's only the sad beginning. Things get worse and worse for the children...
Rating: Summary: Good enough Review: I can't say this was my favorite book in the series, but its wrothy of at least 3 1/2 *stars. If you read this series in order starting with the first, you may not get the best impression of the rest of the series. The story's simple enough to follow to be able to start with any volume of this "woeful series". I read first the 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th, then the first four...At first I was skeptical about the series, after hearing that it wasn't as good as Harry Potter, but I have gotten more "into" this series than any other I have before.
Rating: Summary: The Bad Begining Part II. Review: I think that this book has a good start. The only thing that is sad in the begining is that there are three little kids at the beach. They are having a lot of fun and I mean a lot of fun.Until they recieve very very bad news. The bad news was sent by their parents good friend Mr.Poe.He tells them that their parents has just died in the house because of a horriable fire.I think that this book is a book that I'm starting to like this book more than Harry Potter. The Bad Begining is one of those books that are very interesting.I find The Bad Begining a book that I would reccomed to others such like my mother. The reason I think my mother would like this book because she likes books that are very interesting such like this book is.The Bad Begining really starts off as a bad begining. The Bad Begining has a lot of things in it that I really don't enjoy.Like because they are orphans they are being treated very bad.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I loved it. It was scary with a pinch of funnieness and a dash of drama.
Rating: Summary: Lemony Snicket is not just for kids. Review: As a 24 year old I'm not ashamed to say that I have read every Lemony Snicket book and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series: The Carnivorous Carnival. While most "children's" books patronize their readers, "Series" uses high-brow humor and inside jokes that make the reader feel like they really understand Lemony Snicket. "The Bad Beginning" is the best place to start so what are you waiting for? If you still have any doubts check out this cool animation based on The Bad Beginning ...
