Rating: Summary: Heartfelt Review: This story of an abused child, and his fight to survive is very touching. You can't close it without shedding a tear. It is a firsthand experience of a boy wanting to be loved, but instead he got hate and neglect. I highly reccommend this book to anyone willing to share the sadness and grief of this boy who finally decided to speak out.
Rating: Summary: Abusive Relationships Review: A Child Called It is about a little boy who has two brothers. They get along fine, until, one day his mother turns on him and he becomes the one which she take all of her frustration out on. There is not anything that he can do. He is only about 5 years old. David's mother abuses him left and right just because she wants to. She does not abuse his other siblings though.I think that this was a good book. I do not read much, but it was a book that kept me reading for the most part. He puts up with a lot of stuff from his mother while at the same time, seeing his dad stand by and watch. I think that he truly is a strong individual and deserves a lot of recognition. I do not think that I could handel that type of treatment, although, in the end, it proved to be for the best in shaping his character. I'm sure that he would not have had to go through that do mold him into the type of person that he is now.
Rating: Summary: What an amazing story Review: This story of Dave had me in tears and now I have to have to have the last book.... What an amazing story of courage and strength. What struck me is how any woman could dream up such horrific things to do to a lil boy... My teenagers 13 & 15 read the book also.. Not saying one word while reading it and keeping in mind all of this is true... You are an inspiration Dave you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Rating: Summary: The Real Truth Review: I thought this book was wonderful. I didn't like what the book was about. The book was about abuse. From this book I learned that a lot of abuse can take place, without any one doing anything about it. Another book that has to do with abuse is Dave Pelzer's second book in the series called, The Lost Boy.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called It. Review: I gave this book five stars, because I thought it was the best book I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. It was fast reading and it was very hard to read. The things this boy's mother did to him is just cruel and very heartbraking. I don't understand how a mother could do that to her son her own flesh and blood. What would be neat is to read a book on how the mother felt and what was going through her mind when she was abusing him.
Rating: Summary: It was a great book. Review: This was a great book because he told of all the things that he had did and what his mother did to him in great detail.
Rating: Summary: Very touching Review: I have been considering being a foster parent and I thought this book might provide me with some insight into an abused childs mind and help me relate and meet the needs of foster children. I found this book very touching and I read it all in one sitting. Mr. Pelzer's recollections of horrific torment and abuse literally made me feel ill at times. This book was both disturbing and inspiring. To know that a child can be strong enough to live through such agony and learn to use this strength to grow into a happy person and serve his country inspired me all the more to reach out and help other children by opening up my home and offering hope.
Rating: Summary: A child called "IT" Review: This book I read in a few hours, I could not put it down. It is very moving and will bring tears to your eyes. Told in the point of view of the child that is experiencing all the abuse. It will tear at your heart and make you think twice about the way we treat our children. I will be reading the authors 2 other books!
Rating: Summary: Eye opening Review: I had heard that this book was very good and also very heart wrenching. I read it in one sitting. I could not put it down. I kept thinking back to the child that sat beside me in grade school who had all the same characteristics as Dave. I am studying to be a social worker and I feel this book should be part of all social service curriculums. Anyone who has contact with children should read this horrific account of child abuse. It really opened my heart to this problem and I will use this as a tool in my future career. Thank you Dave!
Rating: Summary: A Child Called `It' is a captivating book. Review: This book displays the strongest case for child abuse victims acrossed the country. I could not put this book down. David's story will reach right down in to your heart. If you have never been abused there is still a lesson of survival in this story that will change your outlook on life.
