Summary: Triumphant
Review: Although at times this book made be difficult to read because of Dave's detailed descriptions of his tumultuos life as an abused child, you will not be able to put this book down. It is the story of a survivor and the incredible strength of a child. Dave is a man who has triumphed and suceeded. He is very personable and has a great sense of humor. All he truly wants to help others in the world through his writing.

Summary: More questions than answers
Review: I was sexually abused when I was younger, so I am not saying that the abuse David suffered as a kid didn't happen. But there are a lot of unanswered questions in this book. Why did David's mother abuse him and not the other kids? How did his mother turn from a loving mother in Chapter 1 to someone so evil in the following chapters? Was it the alcohol, mental illness or both? Why didn't the school authorities pick on his behavior sooner, like when he was stealing food and coming to school in rags? Were the other kids also removed from the home? Why weren't charges pressed against the parents? And how could it be that David's father was too drunk and weak to stop the abuse, yet, he was still able to work as a firefighter? Maybe I am missing something or maybe these questions are answered in the sequels.

Summary: i can't stand it
Review: after i read this book and the second one, i want to find his mother's address and mailbomb her! i know violence doesn't solve violence, but i am SO MAD! did anything ever happen to her? she should have been hung! does david pelzer still talkt o her (if she's still alive)? what ever happened to his brother russell, who took his place after he left? if i ever saw roerva pelxer on the street, i would o something VERY bad. i probably should stop now.

Summary: A Truly Touching Book
Review: This is a story of one child's will to survive, against some horrific odds. Dave Pelzer's story will break even the hardest heart. This book strikes very close to home for me, as I also suffered extreme abuse as a child. I applaud Dave's intestinal fortitude, for reliving his private hell and putting into words for us to read. I am sure this book will help other victims of child abuse, as it helped me. After reading this book, I was finally able to come to terms with some old issues, and put them to rest. Summary: Wake Up Call.
Review: David Pezler is an excelent writer. He doesn't leave out any details of his chilhood.This book shows you the misery and ways out of child abuse. To tell you the truth, I couldn't put the book down. Pezler constantly has you on the edge of your seat. Though, I suggest to have a spare box of tisue next to you.

Summary: A Horrifying Story, An Inspiring Man
Review: I had never heard of Dave Pelzer or his books until I came across this amazing man through a book club about two weeks ago. I was just flipping through the catalog and there was a page that focused on his three books. While the description of his trilogy was brief, there was enough there to get me interested. The next day I was Christmas shopping at Amazon and decided to splurge and buy all three books for myself. While I don't typically read a lot of non-fiction, I will never regret buying the books of Dave Pelzer. As soon as the books arrived I buried myself in them. What an amazing person he is! There are not enough words to describe how much I admire him for his courage and strength to overcome such inexcusable treatment at the hands of his mother. And, indirectly, at the hands of his father for never attempting to intervene. First of all, it completely astonishes me that he survived through the abuse at all. Second, his ability to move past it and use it as a positive influence just proves that each individual is responsible for creating their own ultimate destiny. By the time I was deep into his second book, "The Lost Boy", I was consumed with the need to know where Dave's life took him. All three books were insightful and interesting. I was so pleased to learn that Dave finally found his place in the world with a wonderful wife and son. I highly recommend the entire trilogy to anyone who needs a little inspiration in their own lives.

Summary: Editing is as confusing as his life
Review: I enjoyed the content but found the editing too confusing. I realize you MUST read all three to get the full story but I felt let down as the book has a choppy beginning and ending.

Summary: A heart wrenching book!
Review: "A Child called It" is a true story based on the third worst recorded case of child abuse in California history. Throughout the book David Peltzer all too vividly, sometimes frightening, and heart wrenching recalls a childhood life solely composed of mental, physical, and emotional abuse. The authors ability to illustrate and present a clear picture into the readers mind about his experiences was brilliant. Without a doubt, the author captures moments so well that it feels as if David himself is sitting beside me telling the story. I felt deeply disturbed and disgusted throughout reading the book for the senseless abuse that was forced upon him by his mother without motive. Davis upbringing made ,e realize that I am fortunate to have a nurturing home that is filled with joy and happiness. Overall, the book had left me with many unanswered questions. Why was David brutally beaten and not his siblings? Did the mother have some sort of resentment towards David? What made the once nurturing mother into a wicked sick lady? It is amazing how David managed to survive and although he explains how he did it, it is unbelieveable and astonishing the inhumanity that he survived. Even more astonishing is the fact that in his adult life he has came out unscathed and has even stood out as an exempliary figure. Fortunetly, David has two more books that complete the story. One is, "The Lost Boy" that continues where "A Child called It" left off. The other, "The Man Named Dave" is the last book in the series.

Summary: One of the best book I've ever read!
Review: The book was recommended to be by my friends, who raved about it. I decided to read the book and found it fantastic. The book was a very emotional. I now recommend it to my other friends. I have not read the other parts of the trilogy but I plan to real soon.
