Summary: A Child Called It
Review: I thought this book was well written and took a lot of courage to do. I have read all three of Dave's books, and give the guy a lot of credit: not just for sharing his personal life, but also for turning all his negative upbringings to positive outcomes.... I know from experience that he has many haunting memories, but can overcome them through sharing his past. I understand that these reviews are each readers opinions, but when I read a review written from Maria that basically said that Dave was a liar, I was a bit ticked off. If you were brought up in a certain environment from the early years, you think life is suppose to be that way. Even if you start to figure out that things are wrong, you feel trapped and scared to make a big move. A lot of people back then kept to themselves and did not get involved. Unless you have walked in the shoes of an abused person, you should never judge them. I highly recommend reading all of Dave's books.

Summary: Crime Against Humanity
Review: I consider Mrs.Pelzer the scum of the Earth. If she is dead, she should be placed in the deepest bowels of hell with her fellows-Adolf Hitler,Joseph Stalin,Vladmir Lenin,and Moa Tse Tung.There are nothing thinis child could have ever done.This story is on the same level as the first reports of the Nazi death camps or the final murder of the Romanov family.David Paelzer did her more of a favor in not reveling her name.And his dad.Well he was a coward.He was a wimp,not a man.Letting his son be tortured like this without raising a voice let alone stopping her made this scum lower then his evil wife.It is great that Dave Pelzer is doing well and a final insult and the last laugh to his deranged mother.

Review: Let me say this-thank you, David Pelzer, for sharing your story with millions of us! I was beyond mortified at the abuse but would like to say to those who have any doubts that this type of horror can happen-it can and it does. I was amazed at his will to survive. I hope that everyone that reads this will be more aware that this can be happening next door, in your child's school, or in families. David's story clearly showed how trapped a child can be when there is nobody to help or inervene. Be prepared to have some kleenex nearby when you read it.

Summary: Captivating
Review: "A Child Called It" truly mesmorized me. It was an easy read, yet often times it was difficult because I was afraid of what I would read next. The best thing I did was discuss the story with my sixth grade class and then read it aloud. They were respectful and unbelievably captivated (as if I was reading Harry Potter!). They have an awareness that perhaps the next time they see a child "out of sorts" that there very well could be a story behind the out-of-date or dirty clothes, the mussy hair, the speech impediment, the peculiar behavior, etc. Certainly we all shouldn't be so quick to judge and make fun. I recently had the pleasure of being with Dave Pelzer for an all day workshop. The 700+ audience laughed and eventually we cried. I'm looking forward to Dave's fourth book which will be out in October. He recommends it for Junior High and High School students. Dave Pelzer will have a lasting impression on me.

Summary: Great Book
Review: For those of us who had loving parents, this is a real eye-opener. I read both "A Child Called It," and "A Boy Lost" in one day. My husband and I are now looking into being foster parents, partly due to David's story. To think a mother could do the things she did (and get away with it) are unbelievable! It makes you thank God every day for having loving parents.

Review: A Child called "It" was one of the saddest stories Ihave ever read. This is the first part of a trilogy. The book isabout a little boy's life from the time he was 4 to 12 years old. The book talks about the severe abuse and torture of a small boy. The child was called "the boy", he had no name, defined by the label, and treated as if he did not exist to the family. The more that I read the more it brought me to tears. It is hard to believe that any mother could be so cruel to her own child. As I read this book, it became apparent to me that this child grew up in a time when child abuse was not an open subject. People saw it as a private issue until something devastating happened that brought it to light. Finally, the school did get involved and I believe it is what saved this child's life. I am now reading the second part to this trilogy and an really looking forward to some answers to the questions I have such as: what happened to this mother, and why the other children were not beaten and abused. I would hope this story has a happy ending, although I question whether or not anyone can endure this kind of abuse, and ever feel safety and security. I hope that David's story will help a lot of other children who may have experienced abuse in their life. Hopefully, it will help each of them as they heal to find their own voice. END

Summary: A Child Called "It"
Review: A Child Called "It" was one of the saddest stories that i have ever read in my life. This is a the first part of a trilogy. The book is about a little boys life from the time that he was 4 until he was 12. The book talks about the severe abuse and torture of a little boy. The more that I read the more that it brought me to tears to think that anyone could be so cruel to their own child. This little boy was forced to sleep in a garage on a cot with no blankets and was not considered a part of the family. Everyday this child was forced to do all the family chores and if it was not done in a very speedy manner the boy was not allowed to do anything. The child was called "the boy" as if he had no name or even existed at all. The boy was starved for days on end while the rest of the family ate like a family. If the boy was good he was able to eat the leftovers from the rest of the family's plates but never given a plate of his own to enjoy. At one time the mother didn't like that he was eating leftovers and from the trash and began to pour bleach over the food in the garbage. In another effort to either get the boy very sick or to stave him again. It got to a point that the boy was so hungry that he began stealing food from other kids lunch boxes at school. When he was caught he then would leave school at lunchtime and run all the way to the nearest store and steal what ever food that he could then he would hide it to eat later. When the boys mother found out that he was getting food some way she would make him come home from school and throw up all that he had eaten and at one time she even forced him to eat the vomit. The boys mother would also have torture sessions with the boy she locked him in a bathroom with a bucket of ammonia mixed with bleach. The boy talks about how bad that his lungs are burning and that he had to put his head near the heating vent in order to breath. There are many other sessions talked about where the mother would make him hold out his arms and burn him on the fire from the gas stove. The one that I found to be very hard to read about is when the mother actually stabed the child. This mother had no concern about the fact that the child was bleeding or that the wound had became infected. The boy kept looking to his father to be his savior but that was not what happened either. Father was a hero to the boy for years and then one day the boy realize that the rath of mother was more then father could handle either. This poor child was miss treated and abused for years with no help from anyone. I think that the biggest upset to all of this was that in the years that this happened no one really knew a lot about abuse or perhaps didn't want to get involved. Finally the school did get involved and I believe that is what saved this childs life. I am now reading the second part to this trilogy and am really looking forward to some answers to the questions that I have in my mind. Such as what happened to this mother after this child was taken away because the boy was taken. I am also wondering why the other children were not beaten like David. I am hoping that as i get done with the second book an begin the third that it all has a happy ending and that Davis's story will help a lot of other children that are going through the same thing to speak out because there is no excuse for the way that this child was treated.

Summary: If the Bible for the Soul; This Book for the Human Spirit
Review: I bought this book last Thursday night, started reading it, and by time I got to page 39, I threw it across my bedroom and hit the wall; My wife and children would say I lean with compassion and long to anger. (That mother, she should be in Dante's 9th Level of Inferno, least we show Jesus-like compassion for her.) I finished the book last night, fully awashed in tears--I moved beyond anger. It takes only 2 hours to read. I got to wondering if this book is just for abusers, enablers, victims, et. al. And the more I thought, it's for every parent if only to be one-ounce more patient before getting angry with your child and for every neighbor if only to be more susceptible to looking for abuse in society and among the kids our children play with. That Dave Pelzer is alive and wiping out the misery brought on by child abuse day-by-day, the world over, is a triumph of the human spirit. Each century only produces a few people worthy to lead humankind (e.g., Ghandi, M.L. King), Dave Pelzer is one. This book, and his other two are seminals on this topic.

Summary: Being in the shoes of Dave
Review: As I read this book, I went through all the simularities between my mother and Dave's. I started also placing my feet in his shoes and after reading a frightening part of the book I'd re-think how I would have handeled the situation. That boy is amazing. The book is so emotional and full of very vivid details. I loved it and I couldn't put it down! This is definetely a book to go and get! I promise, you will enjoy it! I must go now and get the other book, the sequel to this book called "The lost boy" It's probably just as good!
