Rating: Summary: A Child Called "IT" Review: This book is about a child who lives with his mother, father, and two brothers. His father works all of the time, and his mother stays home. The boy's two brothers are well cared for, but he is not. This boy is deprived of love, friends, and even food. His mother tells him that he is a "bad" boy and "bad" boys don't deserve food. The father on the other had tries to help the boy, but is soon corupted by his wife's ways. The boy then has no one to are for him. He goes for weeks without food, and even when he does get to eat he only gets scraps that the dogs don't even want. Through the story the boy gets stronger, he only wants to go on to not satisfiy his mother. He won't cry anymore, because his tears give his mother joy and he doesn't want that. After a while a teacher starts noticing brusies on the boy, and reports it. Finally, the mother gets taken away. During the story the boys mother refers to him as "IT" meaning that he is nothing to her, hence the tittle. I liked the book, because it really made me think about what it would be like if you were neglected and beaten, it was almost as if you were in this little boy's shoes. The end of the book to me was very logical that the mother would eventually be taken away, which usually happens in these cases, hopefully for the child's sake. The little boy in the story is very strong, he may have started weaker, but the harshness his mother put him through made him a lot stronger. Over all the book was very well written and I would recommend it for people of all ages, it really puts you in the story, like you are this little boy.
Rating: Summary: Story of a lost child Review: I thought this book was one of the best books that I have ever read. It makes you wonder how many people like David are out there, and why so few people try to make a difference. My mother was abusive but she didn't hold a candle to Dave's mother. This book helped me to answer questions that have been plaguing me for years. It made me realize how lucky I really had it. My english teacher tried to read it in the class and after the second chapter she had to stop because it was so emotional that she and the rest of the class were crying. It really sends a message. Throughout the book there are times when you just want to scream "Way to go" when he decides to stand up for him self. I definately recommend this book to anyone, no matter if you can relate to it or not.
Rating: Summary: Very good book, but I was sort of confused Review: I read this book within hours, I could not put it down. It made me cry to see what children go through sometimes. I applaud Dave for his courage to get through that situation. I do not think that I would have stayed if I was faced with such. I was confused however as to why his mother would behave this way towards him, and how his father could let her do such things to his child.
Rating: Summary: An Exceptional Book Review: The book, A child Called "It", was exceptional. It grabbed my attetion and I couldn't put it down. Befofe reading this book, I never knew how abusive a mother could be to her child. It suprised me to see a mother turn all of her love into hate within a matter of months. I definitly give this story five stars because I've never read a book that kept me so intrested, that I didn't want to put it down. Also, I have never read a book that made me cry so much. It made me think about life and blessed I am to have a mother so loving and kind to me. I recomend this book to anyone because hearing about the torture that David went through would inspire anyone to join the fight against child abuse. If you are looking for a great book to read, this book would be my number one recommendation. Definitley my favorite book of all time. -Anne
Rating: Summary: A Child Called it Review: This book was probally the best book that I have ever read. In his book David Pelzer describes how horrible he was treated by his mother and how he was treated by his peers and teachers at school. His life was fine in his early years, but as he grew older he became trapped in what he described as a livng hee. He began to plot out ways to survive from not being killed by his mother. He also had to deal with an alocoholic father who although, once was a caring and loving father turned his back to whatever his wife did to David. As David grew older his punishments got more extreme. One example is that he was forced to lay completely under water in cold bath water from the period after school until late at night. He was also locked in his bathroom with a full bucket of ammonia. The main idea of this book is that no matter how hard your life is that you should never give up and always look towards the future.I felt that David's choice of a title was exellent. The title describes in one word, IT, how he was treated, like a thing, that wasn't human. David showed to be a very strong and determined individual. His mother was obviously very disturbed and frustrated. The weird thing was that she only treated David horrible, the other childre were treated just as most good parents treat their kids. Davids father made me ver angr, and it was hard for me to understand him. He was a strong man physically, bu not mentally. Even though he didn't want his wife to do thee things to David he was not strong enough to do anything about it. This book definately made me think about how great my life is and how great my parents are. I feel that his is a must read book and makes you think a lot.
Rating: Summary: An eye opening, heart touching book! Review: This book, A child called "It", was a very touching book. I gave it five stars because it opened my eyes to realize that child abuse is all over the United States and the world. It touched my heart when I read stories upon stories of David's hardships with his mother and family. I don't believe I would have the courage that David did to stay alive that long. After reading this book, I feel it is my part to take action and help out kids with families like the Pelzers. Definitly the BEST book I have EVER read. I recommend it to all ages.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called It Review: A Child Called It is an autobiography that explains a child's struggle to survive a severe case of child avuse. Dave Peltzer is one of four children. Dave was forced by his mother (an Alcoholic) to do all of the chores while his three brothers played outside. He wasn't allowed to eat unless he was rewarded by his mother. If she found out he disobeyed her in any way she would choose one of her many cruel punishments, after beating him. Her favorite was locking him in the bathroom with a mixture of ammonia and bleach. Dave knew the only way to beat his mother was to act like none of her punishments bothered him. Ke didn't cry when she hit him, he just accepted his punishment and continued on with his chores. A Child Called It will definitely touch your heart. Once you pick it up you won't put it down. So for all of you emotional people, grab your box of Kleenex and get started. It will be worth it.
Rating: Summary: A Truely Eye Opening read Review: I just had to write a review to say how much i enjoyed reading The Boy called'IT'. I have never read of such abused to this scale i cryed all the way through. You come to love David very quickly and its very hard to read what The Mother did to him but on the other hand it is a book that you can not put down until you have read it all. It also shows the powers that be at work. But how was he allowed to suffer for so long before he was rescued? the book is extremly well written. I also read the second book called The Lost Boy. This was excellent too. It tells of how he copes with life after The Mother and the predudices he encounters. Iam really looking forward to reading the third book but it is not yet out in England. WELL WORTH READING.
Rating: Summary: An inspirational story that will touch our hearts forever Review: This should be a 10 star book. I just finished this book.I had so many different emotions when reading this book. Tears running down my face, I cheered david on when he would know call his mother those names. This book is great for anyone with a heart. Its a three part serious, Im now going to read the second book. I am a high school counselor and I will look at every student in a different light. David your courage is an inspiration to all. This book is about a young man who survived an unbelivable childhood experience. This book is from David the survior The third worst child abuse case here in California.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable but worth the read Review: I have read all 3 of Dave's books. I have written a review on A Man Called Dave. While reading other reviews I cannot believe how a customer can say that the book was terrible. I understand everyone has their opinion, but you have to realize this was written as if a 4-7 year old was telling the story. The abuse Dave endured was beyond anything I could ever imagine. I know after reading all of his books, that I am truly grateful and lucky to have been brought up the way I was. At times, the things he writes about are truly unbelievable. You don't want to believe such things exist in our society. All I can say is that Dave has truly touched my heart with all of his writings. I suggest everyone read all of his books. You will see what became of this heroic child and how he became a man. God Bless You Dave.
