Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It"-A great book Review: A Child Called "It",by Dave Pelzer, is a very sad but facinating story about a small child's will to survive through the brutal beatings he recieved from his alcoholic, mentally disturbed mother, everyday. Dave's mother was a den mom for cub scouts and somewhat nurturant to her children-all of them but Dave, who she referred to as an "It" and used as her personnal slave. This is told by Dave Pelzer as a young child who is being stabbed, starved, and forced to eat feces from his younger brothers diaper and drink spoonfuls of ammonia. The worst part is that his father didn't do anything about it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes true stories and has a strong stomach. A reason someone might want to read it is because it is very interesting and lets people know that even if they have a rough life, it could be worse. The sequel to thisbook is The Lost Boy, which Iplan to read in the future.
Rating: Summary: A Child's Amazing Courage Review: A boy named Dave Pelzer had to rely on his own mental ability to survive the brutal beatings his mother inflicted on him. For the first five years of his childhood his family was the "Brady Bunch" of the 1960's. His family got along and loved each other. Around the age of six Dave's life began to turn. His mother became abusive. She would order Dave around the house to find things that she lost. When he came up empty handed a beating would be inflicted. As the years passed it only grew worse. When Dave was fed his food was bacteria infested. Dave was even forced to eat his little brother's diaper remnants. The food lessened and beatings grew worse when Dave would steal food from his classmates. Dave stole the food because his pain from hunger was unbearable. Dave was forced to wear the same clothes for two years. He lost all of his friends and was instructed, by his mother, to lie about his miserable condition to his teachers. Dave's chances of living were one out of a million. One day his school nuse took a stand. Dave's nurse had been inspecting his body for over one year. His nurse called the cops and the cops set him fee. After all of these abusive beatings you would expect this book to be a fantasy, but it was a true story, and the child who suffered was none other than the author, David Pelzer. I would recommend this book to anyone, and especially someone who believes their life is tough. Even though this book was very sad and discouraging at points, it teaches will power. Dave Pelzer allowed his emotions to escape and come out, which allows the reader to connect with him.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This book will draw you into the world of child abuse and not let you go until you read the last page. You want to defend this child even though you know he is now grown and safe. This book will make you cry and wonder why would someone do things to a helpless child. It is a must read for anyone who has experienced child abuse either first hand or by watching it.
Rating: Summary: THREE CHEERS FOR DAVID PELZER - TRULY A 5 STAR PLUS! Review: This is the story of child abuse, attrocities which go beyond comprehension, and a small boy's tremendous will to survive. You will cry not only for David, but for abused children everywhere who are still living the nightmare. You will feel David's pain as he describes the gut-wrenching horror of the unwanted, unloved and abused little boy. You will marvel at his incredible emotional strength, his dauntless courage and his unrelenting determination to survive against unbelieveable odds. If you are an adult survivor of child abuse, whether the abuse be physical, sexual or emotion, you will be inspired by the writing of this extraordinary man. While the scars of abuse remain forever, David Pelzer is living proof of the light at the end of the tunnel. Through this book and particularly his following ones, "The Lost Boy" and "A Man Named David," Pelzer's lifelong journey is evidence that it is possible to live with the scars, find happiness, peace and contentment in life, and strength in helping others. Even if you have never experienced the terror and pain of child abuse, "A Child Called It" will make you want to run to your children, hug them forever, and tell them how very much you love them. Perhaps, every parent should keep this book close at hand as a constant reminder of just how precious our children truly are. As a counsellor, I wrote to David some time ago commending him for writing his story and the tireless work he does in the fight against child abuse. The beautiful letter received in return is evidence the author is every bit as remarkable and inspiring as his book.

Rating: Summary: Must Read Book! Review: This is one of those books you can't put down. As I read the words in front of me I felt this childs fear, anger, and pain. I wanted to stop reading at times because what I was reading was so terrifing, but I couldn't. I couldn't believe a mother could do this to her child. I have not read the other books by Dave Pelzer yet, I plan to very soon. He was a brave child and a brave man for sharring his story with the world!

Rating: Summary: read this... Review: A Child Called It, by david pelzer, is a very inspiring story about what a child can endure before he's even in 5th grade, and how awful it really must have been. most of us grow up with more than we need, and still take it for granted, but david didn't even grow up with food , except for occasional scraps that he managed to steal from the trash, or raw food from the school cafeteria. What this child went through is more than we can imagine, and he did a very good job on reflecting on his past and vividly showing you waht it was really like, so it really felt like you were with him and could feel what he felt, and smell/taste everything he did. its really amazing
