Rating: Summary: A child called it! Review Review: I give this book four stars. I give it four stars becuase of how sad it was. I couldn't put it down, I had to keep reading! Even though, at times I didn't want to keep reading because I was afraid of what would happen to this poor child next, I had to keep reading. I think the worst thing was to know that this was based on a true story and really did happen to a young child. Dave Peler shows the trauma and torture he went through each and every day of his life. I think that this showed how strong of a person Pelzer is. Not many people would be able to write all the detail of what happened to him, like he did. They wouldn't want to re-live all of this again. However, Pelzer has able to share his story and to inspire others. Some of the things that David's mother did to him were just unreal, but real. Through the whole book, you just wonder one thing: HOW could someone do that to their child, and WHY would someone want to do that? The answer, will remain unanswered. After reading this book, my outlook on child abuse has definately changed. I never realized how badly some children were abused. I think that this book makes people who either have children or want children think differently as well. I think after reading this book it would make them be more loving and cautions of their children. Overall, the book is unfortunately very real. The way Pelzer can still carry on a good life is beyond me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who can read a sad book. Just remember to keep the tissues near!!
Rating: Summary: A CHILD CALLED "IT" Review: A child called "it" is a tear jerking heart throbbing piece of liturature. Dave Pelzer takes you through eight years of his life and keeps you wanting to read more with all of his goory details. Even though this book is not a book for enjoyment reading, it is well worth spending the time to read it for you own personal knowledge about child abuse. Thia book is well written and in the contents of its pages you will be left breathless and emotion struck by the horrifying things David had to encounter. You will also be amazed and overwelmed with this child's will and courage to servive. Child abuse is a wide-open subject. there arre so many types and levels that no one really knows about unless you have experienced it for yourself. A child called "it" does exactly that, It takes its readers to the extrems of child abuse and leaves you hanging on to false hope and trying to grip the reality of the story. i recommend this book very highly even though tissues will be needed!!
Rating: Summary: How Ultimately Disturbing and Sad Review: I found the book very well written, the author showed his story very well. The cruelty that he had to go through was sickening and unhumane for anyone mother to think of doing. The fact that he survived such torture is a miracle. This book just made me hate people more and more, for their stupidity. But in a sort of opening perspective, I thought his story opened up the minds of the readers to how cruel this world really is. That you can't trust anyone with your kids and always treat them as good as possible. I hope people get the same feeling out of this book as i did, and understand child abuse like this always occurs.
Rating: Summary: Emotional Rollercoaster Review: "A child called it"! What a sad yet compeling book. I must admet that I was a bit tennative about reading it bacause of all of the hoore stories that I was told. the touchure that tis very young bot goes through is truley unbearable. however, onceI started I couldn't put it down. It is one of thoes books that just seem to reach out for your inner thoughts and feelings. Always wondering what is going to occour next is the best and the worst parts about this book. It keeps the reader intrigued but at the same time you wonder: How could a mother treat her son so badly? Why didn't the father stand up to her? What inhumane thing will she think up next? And, how is this child surviving? In the same sense, you see the courage of a young boy and his will to survive every day. While I ras reading "A Child called It" I was literaly sick to my somach just thinking about the toucherous things that were done to David. this is a wonderfil book that truely describes the worst case senero. I would recomend this book to a veriety of people. It teaches us a lesson and allows the reader to take a stand against child abuse.
Rating: Summary: a book not made for the tame at heart Review: "A Child Called It", was a book I could not put down for the life of me. It's story was Intriguing and I was enveloped in the dark life of this child. The feelings you develop for David are always genuine. This book opens the eyes of those who choose not to live in the world around them. It makes them see things in a crisp and clear view. Child abuse is a factor in our society that is ignored by far too many people, and i bless David Pelzer for making a difference in the lives of his readers. I will recommend this book to those who study any type of abuse or show interest in learning more about it. This book, however, is not fit for everyone. It's detail and truth may be too graphic for some readers. The story of this boy is one of solitude and lonliness. I found it very disturbing at parts and sickened by what happened to this child. He went through a number of years with nothing but his thoughts to help him over obsticles. This is not a book to read on an airplane. It's a book that tells us what we don't want to hear, yet need to know.
Rating: Summary: Child called IT Review: If there was on e book that all people should invest there time into this is it. This book shows just what is out in the world that maybe we dont all see. It takes the time to detail everything so that the reader can understand every hidden message and motive. The main story is about a little boy named Dave between the age span of 4-12 and how he is abused by his mother. When a person says abused what comes to my mind is physical abuse, which plays a part in Daves life but is also accompanied by emotional and mental abuse. The word sad does not even begin to describe the emotions of this book. Try disgusting, twisted, horribleand they just start to scratch the surface. If you are looking for a soul touching and realistic book this is where you should start. Even if you are not take the time to read this book you will be glad that you did.
Rating: Summary: wow Review: Through all the gory details and the horrific stories of child abuse i thought this was a very inspirational story. Eventhough I thought it was a good book I wouldn't recommend this book to just anybody because it takes a very disturbing yet realistic look at child abuse. I found myself cringing through some of the more disturbing scenes but I also found I couldn't put the book down. The idea that a young child has the courage to go on through the violent abuse from his once very loving mother is heart-breaking. Finally, I think that David's story is a very scary realization of today's world and his courage should be an inspiration to everyone.
Rating: Summary: A child called it Review: i thought this book was amazing and yet horrible i dont know how a mother could do this to a child and a father can watch i think everyone with kids needs to read this..eventhough i dont have kids..very very good
Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It" Review: Dave Pelzer's A Child Called "It" is a true story that once you start reading it you cant put it down. Dave Pelzer is telling his life story of getting beat by his mother. It is one of the worst child abuse cases in California. In order to survive his mother's games he has to learn how to play his mother games, games that almost left him dead. Know one knew of his living nightmare but the people in his house. He had nothing and no one to turn to, the only thing that kept him alive were his dreams. Throughout each struggle, I found my self almost crying. I could not believe this his own mother put him through. This story will really tell you the truth about abuse and the power we have to make a difference.
Rating: Summary: A toching story of a child called Review: I read the book A CHILD CALLED "IT" by Dave Peltzer. Dave is the main character in A CHILD CALLED "IT." He is an extremely abused child who saw a better life and was determined to get it, no matter what. Dave's mom was an abusive, mean hearted, alcoholic. Dave's dad was not emotionally there for the family. He had 48 hour shifts as a firefighter and would come home to an abusive wife and a abused children. He would get his wife drunk, thinking it would make everything better, when it really just increased the abuse. He would then leave, because he could not mentally handle it, as the children, especially Dave, mentally and physically got it. Out of five children, Dave had to fight for life the most because Dave's mom favored the other siblings. Dave was the household ragdoll. I think this is a great book. The extreme abuse was terribly disturbing, yet it gave you a better perspective on your life. The best part is to see what he's done in his life. He saw the better world and through all the mental and physical abuse, he still got everything he wanted.
