Rating: Summary: Disturbing... Review: I couldn't put the book down! It can be very depressing though, but I kept reading it because I wanted to know how it ended...I'm reading the third now. I think Dave Pelzer has a very unique style...
Rating: Summary: disturbing Review: The book is an eye opener - disturbingly honest. We live in a naive world if we think abuse does not go on around us. Yet no one helped this little boy - quite tragic. I didn't want the book to end - I wanted to find out how his brothers fared. And what happened to his mother & father.
Rating: Summary: Poorly written, hard to believe Review: The book starts off telling you that the book is written from the point of view of a child. My question is, what child thinks, talks, acts like this? No child. The reader is given the distinct impression that we are not being given the whole story-just what the writer wants to remember, or more likely, how he wants to remember it. I certainly buy that he was abused in terrible ways, treated in ways not even an animal should be treated, but I was given the impression that the truth was smeared in order to gather more sympathy. We are expected to believe that only he was singled out for abuse while his other siblings, including a younger one, are pampered and treated like kings. The book is an easy read but I don't feel it was very well written. I think it would have come off much better if it wasn't an 'autobiography' but a 'as told to' story.
Rating: Summary: I just couldn't put it down. and now am reading the second Review: I truely sympathize with his childhood. I was sometimes so sad that I had to cover my face with the book. Tortures beyond imagination, maybe it could be the real situation of child abuse. Maybe that would be the reason that many people think the story of David is unrealistic. As for me, I believe that there would be such horrible things happened to chidren. And I do want to help them in any way, if I can. After finishing this book, I couldn't wait for any minute to read the next book. To find the answer to my questions. Now I'm reading the second book chapter 5. But couldn't find the answer I really want to find so far. Which is the answer to'Why' his mother did those brutal things to him. In the book, the sentence "she's sick" appeared several times. But I think, what readers want to know is, 'What kind of sick?' It's mental illness? or just because she was the Alcoholic? The book is filled with the abuses he got and it makes people sympathize. But I think it's just not enough for people to move as the author David Pelzer intended. He was so brave that he told his secret and somehow shamful story. And I appreciate that he gave me some motivation to think about child abuse, but, if there was at least general explanation why the mother did it to him, the book would deserve more that 5 stars. But I recommend this book to all of you. Except for the only short, this book is worth reading.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called It Review: I think A Child Called It is a book all kids should read. I think this because a lot of kids think their life is horible, but once reading this book you really notice how good your life is. I really thought the book was sad and I plan on reading the second book and third. Even though it was sad and depressing at points I reccomend it to everyone. P.S. ( I am just filled with suspense to read the other books. I've alredy started the second.)
Rating: Summary: how did he survive?? Review: How do i start....amazing..excellent...no..these are not words to describe the contents of the book..these are the words that describe this book...upsetting...heartfelt...and unfortunatly the last word to describe the book is true. This amazing story of a little innocent boy will make you want to cry, hold him, punish his mother and most of all it will make you want to find your own children and give them a huge cuddle. How anybody could go through what the little boy went through and survive amazes me... it makes you realise just what strength us humans can summon when we need to. This is one of the best books I have ever read.. i finished it in 1 day...need i say more???
Rating: Summary: the best book ever Review: The book A Child Called "It", by David Pelzer, is the best book I have ever read. I feel so bad for him and what he had to go through. No child no matter what they did wrong desirves to be treat the way he was treated. This book makes you realize that you have a lot better than he did no mattter what hard time you are going through in your life. This book made me more aware of child abuse, and what kids like David go through everyday. Because of David Pelzer, somedauy when I grow up i want to be a foster parebt for kids like David that were abused, and maybe I might adopt some.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It" review Review: It is a very good book. It is a heroic story of Dave Pelzer as a child. His mother beats him up. It teaches other abused children that there is hope.
Rating: Summary: An Inspiration Review: As you can see Dave suffered a lot during his child hood years No one noticed anything about his abuse, and he often begged people for food. I have read a number of reviews where people say that there is no piont in this book and it is a work of fiction. I found it to be a inspireting book and there is a whole message in it, there is still a lot of abuse out there and we have to do some thing about it.
Rating: Summary: Hooray for David! Review: I never, never read. Last week, shopping at the local K-mart, I was browsing through the book section for a children's book for my grandchild. The cover of Dave's book caught my eye. I have always shyed away from books like this because just the thought of someone hurting a child is so despicable and I surely didn't want to read about the horrors of child abuse. I slowly opened the first few pages and read the beginning. I was horrified but at the same time intrigued. I just had to buy this book! I did and at the same time also purchased the other two sequels. This book is so riveting that once I got home and starting reading it, I finished it that night. I cried along with David. I felt his pain and rejection. I wanted to go back in time and undo all of the hideous things the THE MOTHER did to that little boy. I wanted to hold him in the basement and tell him that no one would ever hurt him again. I wanted THE MOTHER to have done to her all of the things that she did to David. I wanted HER TO HURT. After completing the book I was really curious to know about what kind of childhood his mother had. David never said anything in his first book about his mother's abuse as a child nor his grandmothers' abuse. I surfed the net until I found out that his mother, as a child, was also the victim of a wicked mother and who started drinking at 13. David said there are millions of kids out here like him. He was fortunate. I wonder how many don't survive. What is the human race coming to? I'm really glad that I read his story and am so happy that he was as strong willed as he was to survive.
