Summary: What Aren't We Being Told?
Review: Yes, it is indeed a horrifiying account of a child's suffering at the hands of a sadistic mother. And yes, I couldn't put it down. But aside from voyeuristic fascination with what is really a little more than a grim catalogue of tortures inflicted, the book failed to satisfy me and raised more questions than it answered.The author has chosen to write in the voice of a child, but he makes no attempt, even in an eplogue, to explain why his mother behaved the way she did and what effect it had on him in later life. A little more perception and insight - even retrospective - would have gone a long way, particularly in terms of sharing with the reader some of the wisdom the author must have gained from such a harrowing childhood. I felt shocked, but no wiser after reading it. The author (or perhaps this was the publisher's idea) makes it clear that this is the first of a trilogy. And it's a very short book, which I read in a couple of hours. I was left with the feeling I was being manipulated because, to learn the things I really wanted to learn, I had to both wait for and then read the next two volumes! There is clearly much more to this story. But it's a pity the book is so ungenerous in length and in insight.

Summary: A Child Called It
Review: As a teacher I found this story compelling. It helped to bring a sense of awareness. It is hard to believe that a mother could do such profound things to a young child and not be the least remorse by it. I was angry and sadden at the same time why this child out of all the children was picked to be abused. I was even more angry that the father was so hen pecked that he didn't do anything to get the boy out of this horrible situation. What made me shout for joy is the fact a teacher was the one who finally saw the light and took it upon herself to do something and not give up. Child abuse is too prevelant in this country and not enough seems to be done about it. It's always someone elses fault.
I applaud Dave for his fortitude and determination to rise above this and to realize that his mother was sick and needed help. It was a tragic story where the hero was not an adult but a child that chose not to give up. Thank you Dave for allowing us to view your life from every angle and every aspect. I'm sure it was difficult at best and one that was hard to write.

Summary: A Child Called "It"
Review: A Child Called "It" is an excellent book written from the heart. Not only did the author do an excellent job portraying a child who is constantly beaten by his mother, he used his knowledge of these kinds of events from personal experience. When a mother is involved with alcohol and an unstable marriage, it is obviouse that she would have to turn to some place to release her anger and frustration, then only problem here was the problems and frustration were taken out on her middle child, whom she called the "it". If I were to enconter any of this, i know for a fact that i wouldn't be able to live. The high religious beliefs and other outputs of the situation helped this young man to have faith. I definately recomend this book to people who are interested in love, prosperity, anger, and believeing in themselves.

Review: Everyone, especially those working with children, should become familiar with this story. Many times we hear about a case of child abuse, but rarely do we feel like we've lived through it. This story will make the abuse seem real, thus giving each reader a sense of true empathy for abused children.

Summary: A Child Called "It"...
Review: Usually I would not read a story like this, the thought of reading a book about an abused child would usually be too horrific to me. But once I gave this book a chance I could not put it down. The story is about a little boy named David who is unjustly abused by his mother, him out of all of his siblings is the only one beaten. It is a story about his "courage to survive" and the thoughts and fears of an innocent young boy who does not understand why this is happening to him. I literally read this book in a couple of hours, it was a very quick read. What made the book such a page turner was the reality of the book, the author/main character's bluntness about his past. The awful details were not held back, and although they were hard to stomach, you loved and felt for David. You wished you were there to rescue him or comfort him, anything to take his pain away. The things that he endured were so unimaginable, that you could hardly believe someone could inflict such pain on a human being let alone her own son. This book has definitely opened my eyes to the blessings in my life and also to the reality and seriousness of situations like this. The world is not perfect and civil, but David's survival shows that anything is possible. I recommend this book to every adult or teen, even if you think this book is not for you. It definitely opened my eyes and I know it would for others as well.

Review: A Child Called 'IT' was a very moving story. I think it was good, although it was a sad and inhuman thing the mom did. The thought of all those terrible tortures the mom created was sickening, though this book was very expressive.

Review: "A Child Called 'It'" goes beyond the normal basics of a biography. Rather than exhibiting the greatness of a person, for his or her impact in entertainment, this explores the greatness of the author - David Pelzer, as he survives the abusive impulsive of his mother. This child, who has grown up to become a remarkable adult, shows the beauty of the gift of life, by displaying the cruelty he endured, so we can save the lives of millions of other abused children. Child abuse, in all senses, is perhaps the darkest and most shadowed crime in society. David Pelzer realized this (his case happened to be the third most severe in the history of California), and composed his autobiography so we could all try to end this indescribable crime. At many times I had to stop and cry, for every word has a meaning in this novel. But it shows, ultimately, that even in the worst of situations, there is still the flame of hope. We can either choose to have it burn brightly, or have it die out. If we choose to have the flame burn brightly, there will be a path to change our own lives, and eventually the lives of others. Summary: A Very Sad and Disturbing Book!
Review: A Child Called It, is a real true story. I found it to be really disturbing and at some points in the book horrible. I am reading this book for my Psychology Class. I had no idea what to expect. I have heard of the book before, but I did not have a chance to read it, till up to this point. I couldn't believe a mother could do that to her own son. He was treated has a slave. Dave Pelzer is a remarkable kid for enduring all that pain and having the chance to live. I couldn't believe that things his mother did to him. It is devastating. This book gives a real inside view to Child Abuse, it is a matter that no child should ever endure! I recommended it to anybody, but I will warn people, it's disturbing!

Summary: Great Read
Review: I remember walking through the Barnes and Nobles down here and seeing this book on the shelf. I walked past it many times and it seemed to be calling my name. I had not heard of it, and had no idea what it was about : so I didn't buy it - a bad choice on my part. I think it was about a month later when I ended up buying this book at a Walden Books. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down. I was immediately sucked into it. The abuses that the mother inflicted upon him were horrible. I actually hated this woman. I think that this book helped me in many ways. I was also abused as a child, and could somewhat relate to how David felt. Throughout the years, my friends and family have told me that the abuse is not always the child's fault, (in my case, it wasn't), but this book really helped me to see that. In some ways it helped me to end that chapter in my life and move on. I gave a copy of this book to my therapist and she loved it, and I think that you will, too. You must go out and get this book! It will change your life!
