Rating: Summary: What an incredible story of courage and spirit! Review: What an inspiring story of courage. I am continually amazed at man's capacity for cruelty and the resilience of the human spirit! This story was inspirational! What courage and strength of character! I just finished another book about courage and strength called "The Music of Madness". Both books remind me that you can survive anything if you put your mind to it!Also recommended: "The Music of Madness" by Tracy Harris, "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath.
Rating: Summary: Ryan G.'s Book Review Review: I used to never enjoy sitting down and reading a book until I found the book "A Child Called It". This is a true story, based on a boy named David Pelzer, who lived in Daly City, California during the early 70's. David was brutally abused by his mother. It was the worst case of child abuse ever recorded in California's history. Reading this opens your eyes to a whole different side of things. Once the book was in my hands, I could not put it down. It was so good, that I read it in one sitting. Some details in this story are sometimes so vivid; that you can almost feel the pain David went through. Also, this book makes you realize that some kids are not as lucky as others are. Once you have this book, it has you. You pick it up and don't put it down till you have finished the last page. This is a story with so much suspense, that you want to keep reading it, to see what happens next. Every page keeps you on the edge of your seat. Your always wondering "Can it get any worse?", and when you think it can't, it does. Which in turn gives you more incentive to read further on. Also, many surprises lurk between the pages, making it better page after page. This story is a very realilistic one. Every abusive event experienced by David is described to its fullest detail. Some parts are so intense, it's like your sitting right there with David as he experiences all this torment and suffering. When reading about all this pain and suffering he went through, you can somewhat feel the loneliness and reclusion that David endured through his childhood. Also, it puts so much hatred in your heart for the person responsible for causing it all. While reading these childhood stories of Mr. Pelzer, you sit there and think; "how could somebody let this happen to them"? I said the same thing to myself, but by the time you finish the story, all the questions you ask yourself, will be answered. This book really opens your eyes to the problem of child abuse in the United States. It makes you realize some kids aren't as lucky as others aren't. Like they say sometimes "Bad things happen to good people". Sometimes kids deserve to get punished for something they did wrong, but when they are good and get beat anyways, that's a problem. You may have to go deeper than the surface to see the real problem. I think this story will make people realize that others have it worse than they do. Just because a person is good, doesn't mean their lifestyle is. The world isn't always such a good place to be. Even though things may look normal, they can be far from it. "Don't judge a book by its cover". I recommend this book to everyone. It changes your thinking about a lot of things. Even if reading isn't your thing, I'll bet you will like this book anyways. All events in the story came directly from the person that experienced them first hand. This book is only number 1 in a series of 3. Once you read the first one, you'll want to read the other two. In the end you will be happy you read it.
Rating: Summary: One of the Saddest Books Review: A Child Called "It" by David Pelzer is a inspiring story about one child's courage to survive being starved, stabbed, beating and a whole lot of other teribble things. Once I picked up this book I could not put it down because I was learning how to appreciate every little detail in life. What his alchohalic mother did to him was wrong and nobody should get away with that. David's courage was so strong. This book is so sad that it teaches you to not get upset over the tiny things and to appreciate everything you can get out of life. David should not have had to be put through that and neither should anybody else.
Rating: Summary: The silent children no more Review: Hi, I wanted to thank Dave for writing these books. I to came from a tortured and starved home. By the hands of my mother. And god was watching out for me. I was taken from my mother. And put into foster care. I have to admit I have not read your books YET but from what I have heard. I KNOW exactley what you have been through. And the life long journey you have to go through to heal. I to forgave my mother. The true gift is to for give myself. Growing up always thinking there is something wrong with you or that you are bad. Just for walking on the earth is a journey in forgiveness. People just don't know how commen this abuse is. It just isn't talked about. Thank you Dave for talking about what you went through. I know it was healing for you. Soon I will be reading your books. And I know it will trigger me in many ways. But I know it will be more healing in the end.
Rating: Summary: A story of survival... Review: Dave Pelzer's account of the abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother are horrific. From the ages of 4-12, he tells of some of the most bone chilling abuse that can be afflicted upon another human being, much less an innocent child. Reading this book, you begin to see the amazing spirit and resillance that a human being can have in order to survive. As a boy, Dave Pelzer set his mind on making it through his ordeal and through a nightmarish existence---the only life he knew of. I was touched by this story and can't help but be impressed by Mr. Pelzer, who came from such an abusive situation and became an incredible success and an inspiration to others. Hopefully, through stories like his, people will be encouraged to intercede in the lives of abused children and rescue them before its too late. This is a good book and well worth your time. Don't miss it.

Rating: Summary: Nothing can dominate the human spirit. Review: If i could, I would buy everyone in the world a copy of this book and force them to read it, this is an amazing book, and certainly one in a million, nah, maybe one in a hundred million. I actually came across this book at the airport while i was waiting for a plane, I bought it and read it in less than a day. And that is really weird, REALLY. Being a 14 year old GUY in North America, you just don't read books, but this one book was just incredible, it was the best book i have ever read, i was unable to put it down. A child Called "IT" is the unbelievable story of David Pelzer, it is one of the best books on the topic of child abuse. Dave's family started as a loving, great family, but after Dave turn four, everything started to change between his mother (If you can still call that woman a mother)and him, and she started to abuse him. Dave's father never intervened as his mother abused him with shocking, i mean SHOCKING, brutality. Dave's mother would play sick, perverted games on the young boy, even to the brink of death. Somehow, Dave found the will to survive, hoping that one day he will be loved. This book is AMAZING, and I recommend it to you, to your friends, to everyone. And for those of you saying that this book is exaggerated, far-fetched, unrealistic and has poor grammer, remember that this book was written through the eyes of a child, and its really amazing watching his grow in thought throughout the book. Unrealistic and Far-fetched? you'd be shocked at the amount of hatred and cruelty that a human being can inflict on other people. Exagerrated? I don't know, man, think, Why would he exaggerate the story? As cruel as it is, Why? Dave himself said that he didn't write a book on child abuse just so others can have sympathy on him, but to show that nothing, NOTHING, can dominate the human spirit. His goal is solely to help and inspire others. [God bless that man].
