Summary: Sad-but not the only case
Review: I read this book in about three hours. It's amazing this child survived. I kept hoping he'd run away. I think I would have. As a writer, the only thing I would have liked to seen done differently was the way it opened. I would have liked for the story to have built up to the time the sheriff took him away instead of starting with him being taken away. At least he survived and had the opportunity to help make the world a better place. Eva McCall, Author of "Edge of Heaven" and "Children of the Mountain".

Review: A Child Called It
&
The Lost Boy

Have you ever read a book and it was so exciting and adventurous that you didn't want to put it down? Well I did. The book's title is A Child Called It. Enjoyed this book so much, that I read The Lost Boy, which is a sequel. Now that I read these books it is my favorite series and I am currently finishing Dave Pelzer's third book, A Man Named Dave. I think you should read these books because they are a thrilling, true story of a little boy that was abused and "put through hell" as a child. And he jumped from foster home to juvenile hall to foster home.
Dave was from a loving family at first, but in the story his family changes from loving to a hell hold. Dave suffered abuse from his mother. He finally ran away and was put in foster care. Later on he found out that his brothers endured the same abuse after Dave left his mother's house.
These books are about Dave's tragic life. These stories are his true life experiences. One event in The Lost Boy that stands out in my mind was when Dave ran away and went into a bar. The people in the bar called the police. That is when he was no longer in danger. Dave also help set fair to his school. He always didn't have his head on straight.
Dave went through a lot of abuse. Dave was burned, starved, and forced to eat garbage for years. Dave was put through physical and mental abuse. His mother didn't address his buy this name she called him "it". He was mental unstable. He through that he was the one with the problems, and he was a bad boy. But his mom was the one with the real problem.
A Child Called It and The Lost Boy are the most interesting books you will ever probably read in your life. These books make you think about your life and how good you got it. I guarantee if you like true stories with abuses in it you will love these books. These books are very sad books with emotional loop holes through out these books.

Review: I recently read all the dave pelzer books,i could not put them down. They take you on the most terrifying journey you could wish to travel, however at the end you are left with hope and sorrow, that people out there are abusing these children and yet they arrive at the end of it alive and however scared they are alive. i like dave was an abused child, however not as badly as dave but the severity is not the main point the point is that i also got through it and am here to tell the story. the book helped me to arrive at the end of my journey and made me realise i can talk about it and i can live a happy life with the past at my door every day, outsides the future its up to you to choose to take the first step. amazing book!!!

Summary: One of the most "gut wrenching" books you'll ever read
Review: This is one of the most frightening books in print ! How could someone EVEN THINK of doing this to a child, let alone CARRY IT OUT ? If you think only Stephen King could come up with this kind of horror story, you are in for a WAKE UP CALL. This is NOT FICTION ! Pelzer must have had a will of tempered steel to survive. Do NOT read this book on a FULL STOMACH. What is even MORE terrifying is the number of sadistic monsters who are GETTING AWAY with this kind of child abuse. Pelzer has certainly done his time in pure HELL

Summary: Too many questions - not enough answers
Review: The horrendous subject of child abuse is an ugly reality most of us would rather not read about. My heart went out to Dave Pelzer the boy who suffered untold abuse at the hands of his mother. However, this is a story that should have been told by someone else - a lot more proficient in story telling than Dave. It was a very poorly written book which related one horrific act of abuse after another, but WHY. WHY did the mother only abuse Dave, WHY did the deadbeat father not intervene. WHY didn't any of the useless teachers at his school not see he was suffering - he went to school in rags, was starving and his brothers went to the same school although not in the same condition as Dave.

Was Dave's psychotic mother ever convicted; what about the rest of the family his brothers, what happened to them? Too many loose ends here - there is no beginning and no end to this book. I'm disappointed that Dave didn't write an epilogue about the rest of his family.

I just felt that this very important story could have been given deeper insight had it been done with the assistance of a professional writer.

However, Dave I commend you for overcoming adversity and sincerely do wish you many years of happiness for you and your son.

Summary: A Child Called It
Review: This book was a tremendous eye opener. I read this book as a school assignment, and saw just how terrible a mother can be to the child that she is supposed to love unconditionally. The torment that David's mother put him through during his younger and teen years is just completely unbearable. She did whatever she could to make his life a living nightmare, from puttng parts of his body over a lit gas stove, to making him eat his siblings dirty diapers. She would also lock him in the basement and also in the garage for what seemed like endless days to David. And at some points not only was it his mother, but it was also his father and siblings that would torment him. They made it seem as though the entire family hated him, and would just rather for him to be dead. But, throughout all of the numerous beatings and torment, somehow he still had the courage to keep striving to live out his life no matter what his family could or did do to him. Through reading this book I really saw how some people are not mean't to be parents to anybody.

Summary: A must read!
Review: A Child Called "It" is a very emotional story about a child that was brutally abused in California. This was one of the most severe cases of abuse in California's history. Dave Pelzer was the main character in this brutal story. His name was never mentioned because his mother had always considered him as a slave. Then, as he grew older and he wasn't even considered a slave anymore, his mother called him an "it". In this story, Dave is a very strong child and has to learn how to deal with his mother's "games". Through out Dave's childhood, he was severely beaten and starved by his alcoholic, unstable mother.

The "games" that she played on him would have him struggle for his survival. Some days he would not know if he would even make it to through the next day. Dave would have to fight to get food, but it would be nothing more than scraps from dinner, from weeks earlier, that even the dogs would not eat. Dave's bed was a cot in the basement, and his clothes were all torn to pieces. He could not take showers like a normal child, once in a while he would get to take a bath in cold water, but his mother always made a "game" out of it.

Dave's escape would be school, but he always had to go back to his mother. Nobody ever new about his abuse at home, even though at school people had talked to him to see if they could get something out of him. He always made up an excuse because that is what his mother had taught him to do. Out in public, his mother always seemed nice to him, but if he would take advantage of that then his mother would find a new "game" for when they got home. He had gone to the doctor for some of his injuries, but his mother told the doctor that he was a very clumsy child, and the doctor believed her.

Dave had nothing to look forward to anymore. He hoped that his father would always be home, but he rarely was. He looked at his father as an escape because when he was home, his mother would not play the "games" on him. His only survival was his dreams. Dreams that someone would come and take him away from all of his pain and misery. He dreamed that someone would take him to a place that he could call home, and that they would call him their son.

Through out this story there are some unbelievable acts committed by his mother, and amazing examples of Dave's faith to keep his hopes high and survive his mother. He did this by never giving up and always fighting against his mother, and to never let her win her "games". This story has had a lot of impact on many people through out the world. It makes people think about the real truth about child abuse. Dave survived it because of his great will power, but not every child can.

I really liked this book. I thought that it was very touching in every way. The author wrote it so that the reader could feel his pain with him. This book was very descriptive in what happened. I would recommend this book to older teenagers and adults. It is a very gruesome story, but it makes the reader think about what a great life he really does have.

Review: Dave Pelzer is an awesome author! In this story " A Child Called IT" Dave Pelzer as a young boy is Referd To "It" by his mother. She dosnt care about him At all. She beats him and makes him sleep downstairs on a army cot with no blankets or anything. She sits him on the stove and turns it on! She puts him in a bath of freezing cold water and basicly drowns him. I cried so bad when I read this book. This and the Other Books are true. Summary: A Child Called It
Review: Wow! This is a great book. The book A Child Called It is full of suspense and very emotional at times. Dave Pelzer is not only the author but also the main character of the stories. The conflicts between his family are horrible since his mother is a full time alcoholic, sometimes she gets very abusive. Do you know what it's like to be rejected from your family at age four? He does and you can too. The only hope he had was his dad his dad was a fire fighter and after his mother would abuse him his father left him too. You feel like you're in his shoes when his life passes him bye. There are two more sequels to this book. The one after A Child Called It is A lost Boy. It tells the reader about the years when he's saved from the abuse from his mother. After the story about his abuse there's A Man named Dave. This book will keep you on your toes!!!
