Rating: Summary: a child called it Review: I enjoyed reading A Child Called "It" for several reasons. One reason is because it is based on a true story. There is a lot of kids who get beaten by their parents like the character in this story named David. Reading this book was a positive experience for me because it is reality that no one thinks happens in real life. The author of this story was able to hold my interest throughout the entire story because he briefly described what was happening throughout the whole story. He stuck to one plot throughout the story. He managed to do this by explaining to me how David was suffering throughout the story. An example of this is when David's mother stabbed him and drowned him. The characters in the story were interesting because David's mother was an alcoholic and so was his dad and there is a lot of parents like that now a days. My favorite character was David because he was suffering throughout the whole story. He was special to me because David was an 8 year old boy getting punched, stabbed, and drowned by his mother who has much more strength than him. David's father tried to help David but his wife was the head of the household. I learned a lot from this story because now I can imagine how parents affect kids by the way they treat them. I gained a lot from this book because there is people in the world that can't be parents. This is a book that I would recommend to my friends because this is a kind of book that would keep you interested the whole time you are reading it.
Rating: Summary: Capturing book Review: I've only resently finished the book. I started reading the book, and just kept on reading, all other things were put aside. I'll guess this book needs a warning, it's not for sensitive people, it's heavy stuff, just to read about. Dave Pelzer writes about his terrible childhood, how he was treated lower than the lowest of his mother, and how the people around him, were passive. His mother could punish him in different kind of ways, e.g not give him any supper for 10 days, force him to take a bath in freezing water for hours, pour washing-up liquid down his throat, and many more cruel ways of punishing a young boy, for no reason at all. I got this book recommended to me, and so I will forward the recommendation to you.
Rating: Summary: A book that makes you appreciate life! Review: I don't even know where to start when I think about the book, A Child Called "It". I have never read a book that has been written so clearly and so well. I felt like I was inside the mind of David, the main character. I honestly think anyone could read this book in one sitting and it is so hard to believe that it is based on actual events. It just breaks my heart that children have to go through life actually living like this. That's why I give Dave Pelzer so much credit for writing this book, because I know with out a doubt that it has opened up many eyes and hearts. I recommend this book to anyone, once you pick it up you won't be able to put it down.

Rating: Summary: A CHILD CALLED IT Review: I am a foster parent and I purchased this book at the advice of a dear christian friend. There are a few explicit words in this book, but I still let my 11 year old and my 13 year old read it. This is one of the worst documented cases in history and I wanted my children to know how bad some of these children have it. It was a very eye-opening experience for them and I think that it is an excellent book for people to read that judge children based on their appearance and behavior. Some children are driven to these behaviors and we as adults can use as much education in this area as we can get. I am now reading the sequels to this book and I anticipate them to be as eye-opening as the first. I reccomend this reading to anyone over the age of 11 who shuns children that don't behave or dress exactly "perfect". You won't believe it is possible until you read it.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive Review: When I first started to read this, I was touched by the boy's strength, but half way into it, I started wondering how such a young child could analyze that situation like he did. Well, it turns out that HE MADE THE WHOLE THING UP! I guess he was exposed in some court case a few years back and none of those books are true. But even if it is fictional it was still an amazing story of human determination to survive. Anyway, I gave it three stars because you would have to be really creative to make something as convincing as that up.
Rating: Summary: A Child's Survial Review: The books I read are called A Child Called It and A Lost Child. I loved these books because when I read the books I couldn't take my eyes off the pages. I did not like the first part of the first book because it skipped around too much. I admire Dave Pelzer for putting up with his mother. He grew up as a severely abused child. His father was his only hope. You have to read these books yourself to see how good these books are. You will be inspired by Dave Pelzer's life. I would recommend these book for anyone who likes gripping true stories.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called It Trying to Surive in HIs Cruel Childhood Review: A Child Called It, by Dave Pelzer, is a very touching story. I would reccommend this book to everyone, unless you have a queesy stomach. This book is about Dave's terifying childhood. His mother beat him and put him through unusual punishment. She would make him work for his food while his brothers played and watched TV. His mother made him and his father believe that he was a very bad boy when he really wasn't at all. I couldn't put this book down. I never knew what was going to happen to young David next. I would recommend this book to people who like real-life stories. This book really told the truth of the horrors about child abuse and I learned things I didn't want to know. People who abuse children need serious help. Dave is telling people that. I also liked it because he sends a clear message to his readers. His message is that people shouldn't be afriad to tell.
Rating: Summary: Disturbing Review: This was a really disturbing book. I read about a case just like this in the news a while ago and it made me wonder how someone can do this to another human being. This book is about a boy named David Pelzer who was horribly abused by his own mother. Forced to eat feces, endure the 'gas chamber' and many other horrible things, he somehow survived all this because his teachers took an interest in him. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the ending. It dropped off so suddenly and I was left wondering what happened to everyone. Still, it's a worthwhile read.
Rating: Summary: Heartbreaking, but well worth the read........ Review: The first night I met my former girlfriend she and I were talking books. I was spouting McCammon and King while she told me of one of the best books she ever read. A Child Called It. This was the first in a trilogy of books (the others-The Lost Boy and A Man Neamed Dave) that told the story first hand of horrifiying abuse at the hands of his mother. When she told me about some of the abuse's this boy went threw I didn't believe it. I took all three books and four days later I had read them all. Dave Pelzer wrote an inspiring story about overcomming and letting go. His mother, a monster by any standards, played sick and twisted games with Pelzer, at time's almost killing him, and still never broke him. I remember thinking that none of the three books were very long so what the hey. It's one of the nicest surprises I have ever had. Books can inspire as well as entertain. I implore anyone reading this review to get this book and give it a try, you'll have to grab the other two.P.S. This book however is not for the hypersensitive. Some of the stories told by the author about his mother are truly horrifing.......
