Summary: A QUICK SUMMARY
Review: A Child Called "It" is a compelling true story of one child's will to overcome the traumas of child abuse. David Pelzer writes about his troubled childhood and having to cope with his abusive, alcoholic mother during the 1970's in Daly City, Ca. Although David's mother is abusive she does not treat her other three son's, Stan, Ronald, and Ruseell, as cruelly as she treats him. David's father, also a drunk, unsuccsessfully tries to help David but later leaves without him due to is wifes uncontrolabe behavior.

Summary: A book that will be read from cover to cover in one sitting.
Review: Being a father of 3 small boys, reading this book almost brought me to tears. What a brave and determined young man David was to stand up to this abuse and not allow this evil to take him over. Although many questions were unanswered, I still felt it was a powerful book that should be read by all!

Summary: A difficult book to read.
Review: I am so glad I borrowed the book from the library. I do not want to own this book. The author needs to tell the whole story. Why can't we know what happen to his mother & father? Why was David the abused child? I continued reading the story only because I wanted to learn how the authorities dealt with the parents. No, I am not an sheltered person who is not aware of the horrors of child abuse. I am an elementary school teacher in an inner city school. The story needs/should be told but in its entirety.

Summary: A book To read
Review: I read "The Child Called It" and "Lost Boy" Dave Pelzer is a man that deserves a lot of credit, this book was wonderful. It touched my heart and soul, I cried for him and for his experiances, it was wonderful and I recommend it to anyone that thinks life is a drag.. or anyone at all

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This trilogy series will make you want to hug your child.
Review: This book is about an extreme case of abuse. It's the first book of three. This is a true life account of what Dave Pelzer went through. This first installment had me angry, crying, & then hopeful for the child, even though I knew that it would end up ok because he's the one writing the book. This book takes you into the world of Dave Pelzer so much that you feel that there is no hope for him. It pulls at your heartstrings & makes you wonder "How could a mother do that to her child?" also you wonder "Why she chose him?". I strongly recommend this series to social workers or those in the Human Services field. It helps you understand what the child is going through, even after the abuse & he is trying to live a normal life. You can see so many of the same characteristics in the children you work with & it helps you understand their thinking a little.

Summary: I think this book was so sad! I loved it!
Review: I think this was a great book but it is not fair to get abused if you don't deserve it! The cops should put those kind of people away for a long long time! Even though David's mother mad sometimes she shouldnt have taken it all on David. This book brought so many tears to my eyes! I was so happy when I read that the mother acctualy excepted David into her family!

Summary: This book is a inspiration!!!
Review: This book was a tear jeker! It was an inspiration to kids alike to know they aren't the only ones that were treated this way for no particular reason. David Pelzer gave an assembly at the Norwalk High School. I loved his speech and would love him to come back next year.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Pelzer displays a courage that we only dream of exhibiting
Review: David hides from the hardened hand of his vicious mother while never submitting to her torture. A Child Called IT tells the true story of a boy who withstands unimaginable physical and mental violence from a mother who had previously loved and cherished him. What happened to force such a change in behavior? David struggles with this questions while enduring a broken arm, being submerged in ice cold bath water, and being forced to eat his own vomit. Through all of the torment, the true strength of the human spirit begins to emerge. David's constant refusal to allow his mother to win drives his life and belief that someday he will be saved. Abandoned by a spineless father who withers in the mother's presence, David is foced to fend for himself. Not even his own brothers offer a hand to help. He fishes through the garbage for scraps of spoiled food and steals lunches from his classmates at school just to receive the basics for human survival. In the end, it was his courage and determination, combined with a caring school nurse and several teachers, that saved David from the suffering. A Child Called IT is simply a must read for those who want and need to be affected by a novel. The book will cast images upon the mind that will never leave. You will find yourself rooting for the boy and loathing all who cross him. Allow yourself the opportunity to read a piece that will change you view on the world and jump start your belief in the human spirit.
