Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the sequel Review: Sophie Kinsella proves that with true inspiration, formulas work every time! Thoroughly enjoyable to read this ridiculous story about yet another good-hearted but clueless character. Guilty pleasure - yes! But one I'll never give up as long as she's writing.
Rating: Summary: Side-Splitting, Smart & Lively Review: I love Kinsella and the Shopaholic series; I love Vicki Iovine and Jennifer Weiner and all the chick-lit books where the woman is in control or her life and not a victim. Plus, I just love books that are funny and real and well-written. This book is Kindella's best yet. Oddly enough, I just read a hilarious book about marriage and kids and work written by a man, "I Sleep At Red Lights: A True Story of Life After Triplets," by Bruce Stockler, given to me by a friend with twins. Wish my boyfriend was more like this guy.
Rating: Summary: Another hit Review: I'm sure there's at least one thing about you no one else knows, am I right? Everybody keeps secrets and most of them are way too embarrasing to talk about. But imagine there's one person in the world who gets to know every little thing about you, and worse still, this someone is you boss! Well, that's what Emma, the main character in the book goes through and as much as I sympathize with her, let me tell, it's hilarious! Shopie Kinsella does it again and will make you laugh out loud. Just don't read it in public or everyone will get to know you snort while laughing and no one wants little secrets like this out there, right?
Rating: Summary: LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY Review: This is the funniest book I have ever read. I stayed up all night reading it, laughing out loud till about 3 am. Emma is such a funny character and the story is so light hearted, easy to read, and engaging. Every time you turn the page, you get excited and anxious to read what hilarious situation Emma will find herself in next. Plot: Emma, a young working girl in London, currently works in the Marketing Dept of the London version of Pepsi Co. On a plane ride home, she tells all her secrets to the stranger next to her, since she is afraid the plane will crash. She tells this guy everything, and it really makes you wonder about your own secrets. She tells him how she pours orange juice, instead of water in one of her co-workers plants, she tells him that she tells every1 shes a size 6 when really she's a 10, she tells him shes never been in love, (...) etc. It's really very, very funny. (...) Their love story is very cute and fun to read. Overall, excellent book to read when you're stressed out or looking for a good laugh. You can read it again and again, and it won't fail to make you laugh. Kinsella is truly a gifted author. I personally thought that this latest venture, was even better and funnier then her Shopoholic series--which I didn't think would be possible. Total chick lit, sometimes hard to believe, yet totally engaging and laugh out loud funny. I recommend this to every woman out there.
Rating: Summary: Shopaholic fan, but disappointed in this book. Review: I have read all three of the shopaholic books, in fact I've re-read them! I'm a HUGE fan of that series! I was so looking forward to seeing what the author would do in this book. But in all honesty, I thought "Can You Keep A Secret?" was a total re-tread of the shopaholic books, except the main character is not addicted to shopping. The whole set-up, the main character's personality, the supporting characters (co-workers, sexy leading man who happens to be a corporate big-wig, room-mate), were so similar to the shopaholic books. I was really disappointed, and felt this new book was just a watered-down "shopaholic" story.
Rating: Summary: Sophie Kinsella Does It Again! Review: Having read Sophie Kinsella's "Shopaholic" series, I was very hopeful that I might find a new set of characters and scenarios which proved to be, once again, extremely endearing and humorous. Sophie Kinsella has definitely delivered! Emma Corrigan is a very fun-loving, delightful, lovable, no-nonsense kind-of British gal. I find the predictaments in which she finds herself to be hilarious, yet so believable that I found myself getting embarrassed for her! This novel truly had the power to take me away from my current surroundings and escape into a world that always seems to become more comical and complicated than what I usually predict from the typical genre.
Rating: Summary: Great Fun! Review: I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun, well written idea. I could easily put myself in Emma's place. I'm scared of flying, too.
Rating: Summary: Just as memorable as the Shopaholic series! Review: I have been reading some serious stuff and wanted to enjoy something light and fun. And what better way to do that than to read Sophie Kinsella's new novel? I was skeptical at first. I mean, could this novel be as good as the Shopaholic series? The answer is a resounding yes. Can You Keep a Secret? kept me turning the pages until the late hours of the night. Emma is hilarious! The situations that transpire after she discovers that the man she'd revealed all of her embarrassing secrets to during a turbulent flight is her company's top dog had me in hysterics! Emma is just as self-deprecating as Becky Bloomwood. She has the same fun tone -- that unmistakable Kinsella style. And I liked her takes on office politics and how the marketing industry is like. The only bad thing about the novel is Jemima. Could a character be any more annoying?! This has proven that Ms. Kinsella has talent that transcends the Shopaholic series. She has other stories and interesting characters to write about. But that does not mean that the reader has heard the last of Becky, for a new Shopaholic novel will be out later this year. Though it wouldn't have mattered to me whether or not it was a Shopaholic book -- I'd buy anything from this author. Sophie Kinsella has become one of my favorite chick-lit writers. I can't recommend this fun gem enough!
Rating: Summary: fun chick lit tale Review: Emma Corrigan feels life as she has had a fabulous year though the Pollyanna young woman always sees the optimistic side of things. Still she has a right to feel great as she stays employed at Panther Cola for nearly a year and is seeing the perfect Ken-doll like boyfriend Connor. She even thinks she is on the right track for a promotion now that the opportunity has occurred for her to show off her talent. However her chance flops and a desponded Emma flies home expecting the worse at the office. She vents on the plane to her row mate while flying in nasty weather telling her deepest secrets about her weight, NATO, and other things. The next day at work Emma meets her plane partner Jack Harper, Panther Cola CEO visiting the British Branch. Embarrassed Emma tries to hide, but Jack will not let her though neither knows where a cross Atlantic relationship will go. This chick lit tale on the one hand stars a precocious witty protagonist, but on the other hand condones fibbing, omissions, and stretching the truth to sell a product. Jack is a wonderful protagonist, but one must wonder what is in the energy bar because Emma acts so childish at times. Still the audience will enjoy this often amusing romp because no one really knows Jack who has a secret or two to share only with Emma. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Its no secret Review: Can You Keep a Secret? Is a fun book, with characters you care about, and feel like you could meet on the street. Just like Kinsella's Shopaholic series the heroine is charming, optimistic, intelligent, and is gripping with her insights and insecurities. The story is written in first person giving the book a personal touch. The set up of this story is very interesting. Emma afraid she is going to die confesses her secrets to a fellow passenger, only to discover he is her boss and a multimillionaire CEO. Now Emma must do every thing in her power to make sure that he keeps her secrets and dose not fire her. While not the next great novel this is the perfect book if you are looking for a happy, entertaining, lighthearted book.
