Rating: Summary: Positive Energy Review: Do not overlook this book! Judith Orloff transends the hypocritical preconceived concepts of both psychiatry and religion and gives the true spirit of practical healing.
'Positive Energy' presents one with tools to truely integrate intangible spiritual ideas into one's own life.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring Tools for Change Review: Dr. Judith Orloff's book is a revelation full of insight gleaned from her own personal experiences as an intuitive empath and as a psychiatrist. I particularly love the structure of the book. In each chapter she lays out the situations that call for the particular prescription covered in that chapter (including funny personal stories and case histories). Then she details the prescription: meditations, exercises to try alone or with others, questions to ask yourself, then the chapter ends with a treat you can give yourself embodies the chapter topic. One of my favorite parts of the book is another section closing each chapter. It's something Dr. Orloff says she's included for the first time in this book: interviews with prominent people. Each weigh-in with their thoughts on dealing with energy: from Jamie Curtis on protecting your energy, Quincy Jones on intuition, Wavvy Gravy on the healing powers of laughter to Rosa Parks on the power of love. I really got a lot out of the chapter on self-nurturing and comforting. I've been benefiting from the heart chakra and white light meditations as well. I'd actually been reading some amazing books that all seemed to have echoes of the same message: Eckart Tolle's The Power of Now, Deepak Chopra's The Way of the Wizard and The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire: Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence, Gary Zukov's The Dancing Wu Li Masters, bell hooks' All About Love: New Visons, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, Ruth Ross' Prospering Woman as well as a strange little book I've just read entitled The Kybalion: Hermetic Philosophy. A lot of the ideas touched on in Positive Energy, such as the laws of attraction, really resonate with the ideas in this little book on universal laws. Amazing how all of these things are connected. I was so excited to find that her ideas evoke a lot of the traditions I've been inspired by as well: shamanism, Buddhist and Asian philosophy, and the concepts of alchemy as it pertains to the spirit and personal growth. I also recently attended a great series of women's spiritual empowerment workshops where they gave assignments that were very similar to Dr. Orloff's exercises (random acts of anonymous kindness, daily meditation, affirmations, gratitude journals, etc.). So, I was struck once again by the synchronicity. In Positive Energy Dr. Orloff writes refreshingly clear and witty prose bringing together insights culled from ancient esoteric knowledge, the world's religious traditions, modern psychiatry and her own brand of empathic intuitive wisdom. Her book has been extremely helpful, encouraging and inspiring to me. It's filled with practical tools for change. What a gift.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring and useful Review: I am a fan of Dr. Orloff's work, which dovetails the heart and mind into the art and science of Western medicine and psychotherapy. I have read her three books and have the companion set of CD's to Intuitive Healing as well. Positive energy: Ten extraordinary prescriptions for transforming fatigue, stress, and fear into vibrance, strength, and love is a major contribution to the field of positive psychology facilitating our connection to energy through our own natural resources and abilities (e.g., sense of humor, creativity, inspiration, sexuality, intuition, and the breath). Both professional health practitioners and lay people alike can benefit from reading it. In a comprehensive and holistic manner, it is chockfull of practical and inspiring information and suggestions (e.g., using the power of prayer in the context of the Mystery of life, meditations, stories, and guided imagery) that we can use to enhance our well being through utilizing our innate subtle energy. To customize her positive energy program for each individual, Dr. Orloff invites us to experiment and create an individual list or journal of solutions from these recommendations and to lose the rest. The book is also available in different forms including CD. I especially appreciated the large print edition. Thinking Dr. Orloff had gone Hollywood (commercial), I was initially skeptical about the book's inclusion of writings from famous people, but found their contributions genuine, worthwhile, and inspiring. Although she repeats some stories and themes from her previous work, this book expands and transcends her earlier work with respect with its attention to and application of how energy affects us all. As a male, I noticed many of the anecdotes are written from a feminine perspective as Dr. Orloff appears to be the ultra embodiment of the feminine archetype. She does, however, refer to Native American Shamans as an example that everyone including males can develop intuition. As an aside standing on my own soap box, the dominant Anglo American culture limits men from embracing this natural gift. I have yet to find a book about intuition and healing, especially written for men. Dedicated to healing, the book is a passionate, poignant, and heartening guide to fully being in this world. As an act of love, positive energy radiates from its pages. It is a lifeline connecting the sublime to what is most real here and now. Thank-you Dr. Orloff for empowering the awareness and manifestation of the nascent positive energy readily available in life. EMAHO! (Tibetan for "cosmic delight")
Rating: Summary: A psychiatrist with the soul of an artist! Review: I grew up in a medical family but never met an M.D. remotely like Judith Orloff.
She is intuitive, open-minded and has the courage to take psychiatry in a bold new direction. She has the soul of a pioneering artist combined with the intellect of a first rate scientist. No exaggeration, Dr. Orloff is a 21st century Carl Jung.
In POSITIVE ENERGY, she shows us all how to reduce the negativity in our lives and to replace our fears with hope and unconditional love. There is no greater gift anyone could give us. Everyone should read this book!

Rating: Summary: Inspired Review: I had the opportunity and pleasure to participate in a workshop with Dr. Orloff last month and was intrigued and inspired by her exuberance and passion for life. The book is a lovely extension of this and so much more. The information is not dense, but easily read and digested as she weaves personal stores and real life examples into rich nuggets of sustanance for living life. She is funny, passionate, truthful, tender, and hopeful in her writing. Sometimes we make things so difficult, more complex and "heavy" than need be and "Positive Energy", in it's simplicity, glows with brilliance and light. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Positive Energy Audio CD Review: I have listened to several audio books that Dr. Judith Orloff has written. This book is loaded with all kinds of in depth material that you will enjoy learning about as you listen. You may even realize that you will use it in your day to day life. It took me many years to figure out that I too, am an empathic person. Didn't realize that there was a name for the kind of gifts that I possessed. After picking up a couple of her books and especially after listening to this audio cd, Positive Energy I began to work with my gifts. Her research on energy vampires and what to do is the most concise material I have read to date on such a topic. Now I can spot them out in any given party etc. I have skills as to how to what to do so people dont continue to drain my energy field. Her methods do work. This book cleared up so many issues and helped me to realize that I had been right about people and what I was feeling around them. Just didnt have the jargon to really explain what was actually happening. She cleared it all up for me concerning energy vampires.
For many people who need clear concise information as of what to do with energy issues, this audio cd will be of great use. She is very clear about what to do in given certain situations. Dr Judith Orloff talks about being empathic and how to protect yourself. There is just a lot of great information one can use in their daily life. Also included are simple meditations to quiet the mind, and some hands on practicing learning how to feel energy fields. I hope that you will enjoy the audio cd as much as I did!
Rating: Summary: Everyone and Anyone Can Benefit from this Book Review: I highly recommend Dr. Judith Orloff's latest book, "Positive Energy." Her voice is wise, friendly, and evolved. The information given in this book is extremely useful for anyone, especially sensitive, empathic types. The exercises are practical and simple, yet profound in how they teach us to ground, center, deflect negativity, and create/radiate positivity. Dr. Orloff's words were immensely helpful to me in achieving a better understanding of how I "take on" other people's energy and can become sick or depleted as a result, and how to prevent this from happening. This book is also a great manifesto on self-care from an energetic standpoint, which is essential to anyone interested in total well-being and authentic living. Plus, the life-affirming, strong, uplifting thread throughout the book is truly inspiring. Dr. Orloff also manages to be spiritually open and very down to earth as well--an essential combination. Read this book if you want to understand how others influence you energetically, and vice versa. Also read this if you want to stoke your energy and bring greater joy, healing, connection, love, and wisdom into your life. --Jessica Viscomi, Artist and Writer in the holistic medicine field
Rating: Summary: Finally at 59 years Young....I have a name!! Review: I knew I was intuitive. I knew a little about my being Empathic. After reading Dr.Orloff's books, I feel like I have gone a lifetime without a name and somebody just *named me!!* smile! The medical field would be able to keep patients rather then chase them away toward alternative therapies if Dr. Orloff's work would be taught in medical schools of today. I feel her work is very Progressive and more in tune with the Progressive Society we have become. And God gave us Dr. Orloff, Blessed are we who know of her!! Elizabeth Kidwiler, Author and Intuitive Empath!!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: I read Judith's book Guide to Intuitive Healing over a year ago. That book really helped to set me on the path of understanding and putting into use my own intuitive powers. I really enjoyed reading Positive Energy. It is a very well written and uplifting read. Judith offers so many practical ways that we can incorprate this information into our daily lives in a simple non overloading way! This is a book I will hang on to and pick up again and again for inspiration.
Rating: Summary: WOW!! Review: I recently read Positive Energy by Dr. Judith Orloff while at work in two nights. What a remarkable book and woman! Just reading her book (along with seeing her photo on the book) gave me so much energy, I found myself going back and re-reading. I've recommended it to my family too (I understand now just how much negative energy is in my household...it's like lightening bolts constantly striking).
For quite some time I have been struggling with a lot of stress in my life. As a divorced mother of two teenage boys with no help from my ex, time at home with my children has been limited due to work (sometimes overtime), and I have found life at times to be difficult, stressful, and most recently almost unbearable. Reading Dr. Orloffs' book was truly inspiring and just what I needed at this point in my life. I had been wondering how much one person could take, and Dr. Orloffs' book helped me to see just how much negativity has consumed me and my life. Her prescriptions are easy to follow, and her radiance is an influence all should have in their lives.
This book is a must read for everyone, and I highly recommend it to all. Thank you, Dr. Orloff. I wish you love, continued energy, and much happiness.
