Summary: lots o fun
Review: This is a different sort of book. It is a children's novel, but it is just as enjoyable for an adult to read (much like Harry Potter). Rather than being the typical sort of fairy tale, this one twists the whole convention. There are fairies, sprites, dwarves, and goblins, but not quite as we know them. The time period is the present day and we see the interaction between the species of fairy and human. There are guns, magic, and a whole lot of adventure in this book.

What sets Artemis Fowl is the title character. He is the protagonist (mostly), but he is also the villain. Artemis is a 12 year old master criminal trying to rob the fairies of their gold. How this all comes about is a joy to read, and is highly creative. This is a fast paced book and it was a lot of fun to read. Please look past the children's/young adult label" and give this one a shot.

Summary: ARTEMIS FOWL IS A TRUE MASTERPIECE!
Review: As a 12-year-old criminal mastermind tries to restore his family's fortune, he encounters several challenges, like fairies and trolls! Full of unexpected turns and suspense, Artemis Fowl is sure to delight young readers everywhere!

Summary: There are no sympathetic characters
Review: I thought this would be a good series to read, since it dealt with a young boy and the world of magic (and we were all hot in the grip of Harry Potter #5 when I bought it). However, this book is very disappointing. None of the characters stands out as likeable (either in a "gee, I really like this person" or a "gee, what a great villain") way, and the fact that Artemis seems to be out to infiltrate/irritate/rob/otherwise harm the magical world doesn't make for a good plot in my opinion. He seems like a Draco Malfoy without restraints (if you will pardon me referencing the Potter books again).

The story was also a little bit coy, with terms like "Lower Elements Police RECON" becoming the term "LEPrecon" and such.

I finished the book out of a dogged sense of persistence, but since there was nothing in it to interest me, I won't be carrying on with the series.

Summary: Well,
Review: Okay this is about the stupidest book out there. First of all it seems as if the main character is the villian. Secondly the Faeries are little 'high-tech' fairies. Yes, Faeries are one thing, and fairies are another. Oh boy, could it get any more boring to read? Yes, when I started reading this I thought I could get past the boring beginning, but it went on until the end. It is not fantasy, it is not sci-fi, it is STUPID. This is more annoying than the 5th Harry Potter book! Which may I say, dishoners dragons and magic, and has a bratty teenager in it, muh like our friend Artemis with the latter. Artemis can dishoner its own things, like Faeries. And they have guns. Oh Cool! Magical little leprecauns with guns! This book is much safer closed.

Summary: Hard to put down
Review: I read Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. The book had a lot of fantasy in it. It was a good book. I choose it because it had a way of grabbing you in with the cover. This is the first in the series of books by Eoin Colfer.

The whole setting of the story was in Fowl manor, the house where Artemis lives, it has housed the Fowl's for hundreds of years. Captain Holly Short of the LEP recon was kidnapped by Artemis. The book tells you how the LEP recon got her back. Commander Root leads some recon men into battle but all of them are killed by Butler. They give Artemis what he wants and get her back.

This was a great book. I liked it because Butler was cool. Also how Artemis likes to steal fairy gold. I would recommend this book to any one who loves, adventure and a little gore.

Summary: Golden Pages
Review: Twelve year old Artemis Fowl is the biggest criminal of the century, who loves adventures and devising unbeatable plans. He and his sidekicks, Butler and Juliet, will have to use their wits in order to get the fairy gold, "The Book," and evade the inescapable Bio-Bomb. Artemis gets into hot water when he kidnaps one of the LEPrecon (Lower Elements Police) officers, known as Captain Holly Short. This aggravates the head LEPrecon officer, Captain Root, who will stop at nothing to get his officer back. The fairies use many different techniques to get her back. All their efforts will fail unless Artemis receives a ransom of some 24 carat gold ingots. Once he is in possession of the gold, he will return the officer. The ransom is delivered but the fairies still release the Bio-Bomb. Miraculously, Butler, Artemis and Juliet all survive, but how? Well, of course Artemis planned this, and had put sleeping pills in all their drinks when they were celebrating the gold they received. As a tradition from "The Book", Artemis and Butler are left alone and keep the gold. This book was amazing. It kept my curiousity at high levels, and made me take guesses on what was going to happen next. The reason why I gave this book five stars, is because it flows very well, and the author made me feel as if I was Artemis.

Summary: Fowl and Potter
Review: Artemis Fowl is a 12-year-old irish kid whose propoension to crime comes from an ancient family background. Now, on the verge of the 21th century, his father is missing, his mother is half-crazy and the money is beginning to shorten. Artemis, with the help of faithful servants, the Butlers, devises a plan to steal some money - gold - from the Fairy People. The Fairy People, composed of dwarves, centaurs, goblins, trolls, and, of course, fairies, live in the underground, away from human eyes - the Mud People. They have magic, spells and a very good technological environment to ensure a quiet living in the nether regions. To prevent Artemis from stealing their gold, enter the scene Captain Holly Short and Commander Root, two of the foremost people in the LEPrecon, the police force of the Fairies.

To continue with the review, I will compare Artemis with Harry Potter - mainly HP's first book. This can and should be done because both books were released only few years apart, both are directed to pre-adolescent and teenager readers and both have similar protagonists. While Harry Potter's nature is good and even naive, Artemis Fowl is dark, plotish and ambushing. He rarely makes mistakes. Potter is a loner, at least in the beginning of the series, and Fowl is the thinking head of a company of crooks. Thus, Fowl's universe is darker. But Artemis, even being a kid-thief, is the main character of the story, and if the readers didn't like him, the series would be a flop. That's the biggest difficulty faced by author Colfer: he must keep his choice of creating an evil character, imagine coherent evil things he will do, and still be able to make the readers relate to Artemis in a good way. Colfer made it, at least in this first book.

The magical, fairy-peopled world created by Colfer is also very different from Rowling's non-muggler world. Here, there's no ultimate evil - Voldemort - because evil is personyfied by Artemis. Goblins, trolls and dwarves still are plenty - the Tolkien legacy - but in HP the setting is always the magical world of Hogwarts, while in AF the real world and the magical world are depicted together, and that may be not so easy to get into the reader's mind.

Which leads us to the jackpot question: which is better, Fowl or Potter? First of all, we have to consider Colfer's genious touch, creating an EVIL character, in contrast to the always righteous Harry Potter. This is a very intelligent twist and even a challenge to the irish author creative vein. I think Rowling created a more complex and developed universe, settings and characters in her masterpiece. But I must not forget that I have read HP's 4 books, and this is my first from AF series. Maybe the next Artemis books will provide the development and complexness that somewhat lacked in the first one.

Nevertheless, "Artemis Fowl" is the work of a talented author and a sure fun reading. No doubt I wish to know Artemis' future adventures.

Summary: Harry Potter eat your heart out!!!
Review: When Artemis Fowl kidnaps Holly Short the faerie, he doesn't know what he has taken on. These ARE NOT the faeries of bedtime stories. They are armed with Guns and Gadgets aeons ahead of ours, and they don't like mud people. Artemis Fowl has become Public Enemy Number 1 and the LEPrecon unit (the lower elements police) want their Commander back. Artemis and his Butler (who is one of the most dangerous men on the planet) battle it out with the faeries to gain control of the ransom gold in retrn for their faerie. THIS IS A MMUUSSTT READ. A+++ *****

Summary: Wow...speechless!
Review: My expectations were low when I first picked up this book. I kept reading it and it turned out that I absolutely loved it! It has a lot of intrigue and magic dissimilar to the Harry Potter series. The story has dry British humor and an excellent plot line! I finished this book in one day...it has so much intrigue! Eoin Colfer writes amazing novels. FIVE stars!

Summary: The best book ever.
Review: When I first started reading this book, I thought "Wow! What a great book!" And I still thought so after reading it. You'll love the main characters, and you'll love the story. There is nothing in this book that you won't love.
The way the author tells the story makes you wish that it'll never end.
