Summary: A VERY NEW TWIST ON ANCIENT FAIRIES
Review: What a great discovery. I ordered this book to add to my collection after borrowing it from our local library. It is a very unique view on mythological characters set in modern Ireland. The anti-hero is the young scion of a criminal family who's attempt to blackmail the fairy world leads to page turning adventures. This story is funny and lyrical and one that is so imaginative that I highly recommend it to any and all who enjoy fantasy, mythology, or mysteries.

Summary: On a line with Harry Potter
Review: WOW! When I first started the book I was determined that I would not allow it to take over Harry P. on my favourite books list, but now I'm not so sure. This is a wicked book and I wish I hadn't read so quickly. I want more! I love the idea of this kid my age who out wits the most inteligent of adults and then moves on to baffling another speicies. An amazing book with star quality.

Summary: While you're waiting for the next Harry Potter book...
Review: Artemis Fowl is a good book for a child or an adult to read while they're waiting for the next Harry Potter book to come out. While it does touch on the subject of magic - magic used by creatures such as fairies, the hero isn't a wizard in training, something a little different than the glut in that area caused by JK Rowling's books. It does get a little boring in spots, its a book that you CAN put down. It doesn't keep you on the edge of your seat like Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Harry Potter. If you can, wait for the paperback version.

Summary: somewhat funny....
Review: ARTEMIS FOWL's publisher claims the book explodes fairy tale myths, etc. I wouldn't say that after reading it. In its own way it is a fun read, but it certainly doesn't re-write the fairy tales I remember as a kid. Don't bother comparing to J.K. Rowling, Andre Norton or Madeleine L'Engle. Eoin Colfer is a capable writer, but this isn't the best he'll write.

The story is fast-paced and kept me reading very late one night. However, the characters are stiff and not well-drawn. You don't come away from the book caring about what may have happened to them after the finale. The finale itself is ho-hum.

All in all ARTEMIS FOWL will probably tell its story better as a movie when it hits the big screen. I'll be standing in line for the matinee with my bag of popcorn.

Summary: Artemis Soars!
Review: From the beginning Artemis has dazzled me with his quandary. And now I'm afraid to end the book, still stuck slowly reading Chapter 7... Please, I beg you readers to STOP comparing this book and every other childen's book that comes our way to Harry Potter! Please... J.K. Rowling's boy wizard is great and original, and so is Eoin Colfer's child prodigy. Just becuase it's labled as a children's read does not mean it has to be overwhelmed with magic and such. Every heard of Liminey Slicket? (did I spellt hat right?) anyway... This is an amazing voice not only in children's lit, but in science fiction as well. It doesn't deserve anything less than 5 stars. Can't wait for the movie.

Summary: Mostly Hype.
Review: Sleek and snappy, but reads like an afternoon TV cartoon on steroids. There are much better books, like any Harry Potter, The Golden Compass series or even the Series of Unfortunate Events Series.

Summary: Harry beats Artemis Hands Down
Review: I purchased this book because the name intrigued me and the editorial review said that Artemis Fowl was a sophisticated story that would do for Fairies what Harry Potter did for Wizardry. I thought it would be a fun vacation read. Potter fans, don't let that review suck you in, too.

Artemis was only mildly amusing, and had none of the positive messages that J.K. Rowling shares in Harry's stories. The plot was pitifully simplistic and predictable, and the characters shallow. Artemis reminded me of a bad Stallone movie or a take off on a bad spy novel. This one is definitely for less sophisticated readers than those Potter appeals to. I’m over 30 and I’m not ashamed to say I’ve read all 4 Potter stories and frequently recommend them to my friends – and not just those with kids.

At best, Artemis is OK. It kept me occupied while it rained.

Summary: Lots of Fun
Review: I'm a mother of an 8 year old, so I read a lot of children's books. This one is without a doubt ranks up there with the most enjoyable. I found myself laughing out loud in public, and I had as much fun cracking the code that runs along the bottom of each page as my kid. (maybe even more!) Very fun book! Witty, intelligent, fun read!

Summary: I Loved This Book
Review: Harry Potter....Not Harry Potter....blah, blah, blah. This book stands on it's own and is wonderful and inventive and likeable.Very smoothly written. I don't know..I just liked it. It was fun to relax and let my imagination go and visit the bizarre little world created in this book. Yes, I am an adult who, on occasion, enjoys so-called childrens' books and hang me out to dry but Harry Potter doesn't do much for me..there, I've said it.So, get this book and also "Cirque du Freak" and then graduate to anything by Jonathan Carroll. Have Fun!
